Dope stats line...
Another great game for Sydney Rice. Check out the names of the eight receivers who rank above him, all of whom are big time NFL stars. Like to see our guy rising up to join the elite.

Wow that is beautiful
He is getting up there! This season is exciting as all hell and its nice to finally see a passing game again
I feel the same way. I think these guys are collectively learning a lot by watching an on-field demonstration of how to make reads and open up a defense. Hell, I be he’s even teaching Coach a thing or two. I should also add, I’ve been seeing a lot more chemistry between the Silver Fox and TJack, which gives me some hope that their apprenticeship might payoff for some time to come.

YPG isn’t even close to those other guys. And he has less receptions, which will bump his stats a bit. Not to say he sucks or he isn’t good, but I wouldn’t put him in the top 10 WRs just yet.
Well…
Isn’t total yards and yards per game parallels?
I mean, all those WR’s on the list have played the same amount of games, save for Clark and Wayne who just had their bye week.
I mean, the fact that he is 11th in total yards is pretty damned good even if it is early. But his YPG does not tell us anything different than his total yards.
No, they’re pretty different. Miles Austin, for instance, recently had a 250 yard game. That’ll kick his YPG up by 50 yards or so. It doesn’t mean he’s actually doing that well every game, he just has one huge game, like Rice did this past week.
Granted you might be able to say the same for everybody on that list, I don’t know. I don’t follow them every week so I’m not certain, but those are some big names on there, so I’m assuming their production is consistant week to week.
What is the difference between a guy who has 75 yards every single game for a total of 450 yards and a guy who has 25 yards for 5 games and one game with 325 yards?
They both have 450 total yards, and they both average 75 yards per game. Obviously, one is more consistent, but their numbers are the exact same.
I was just saying that assuming all players play the same amount of games, YPG and total yards tell us the same story. YPG only comes into play when a player has missed games.
Dropped to #11 after Monday nights game with A. Gates and V. Jackson passing him. Note that in yards/game he’s only #21. He’s certainly getting better but I wouldn’t sing his praises just yet.
That’s fair, no doubt. I’m also more inclined to see the past three games as being a better indicator of where Rice is compared to the rest of the league, given the unique reality of our QB situation. BFF was not at all in synch with his guys for the first three weeks, which massively impacted our statistical production. By no means do I think Rice has proven himself an elite receiver yet. But, hell, his improvement is evident, and has me feeling like some optimism (even if it distorts certain hard facts) is warranted.
