we all knew
We all knew it had to happen sometime. Hopefully after watching tapes of this game it will light a fire under are asses for next week. Just a few ramblings from me about the game..
1.) Where was our discipline during the game? Way too many penalties.
2.) As much as I enjoy Farve as the QB he shouldn't be throwing the ball 51 times.
3.) I know chester is the better catching the ball out of the backfield but when we are in the 2 minute drill I just don't think you can take AD out of the game. He's too special.

The Dugan “tripping” call was B.S….that negated a TD that put us up, with the very next play being a strip from Favre…
And the interception….not the best throw Favre, and poor catch from Taylor…
Should have been a win for the Vikes, but it wasn’t. Congrats to the Steelers…
Still doesn't even it up
If the refs DON’T make that blown call, it’s Minnesota ahead by 4.
As it stood, Minnesota and Pittsburgh BOTH got a TD and Pitt still holds its 3 pt lead – is that revenge?
it doesn't even up...
But that’s about as close as you can get to even up! ah wow I loved that hit and I could see it coming too

Is there some review of their performance by Goodall and crew?
Seems there has to be some repercussions….Terrible calls led to this L….
I would rather be IN the Arena than watching from the stands...That is my life!

Yes, every week the VP of officiating has meetings to go over calls such as this one. They are constantly working to prevent this type of mistake, but Refs are human.
It sucks, but it happens to every team at one point or another.

Right. The Vikings might’ve lost the 49ers game if it weren’t for a one of the tamest “taunting” penalties I’ve ever seen, which extended a drive that led to a Vikings TD. Bad calls are part of the game.
Lots of stuff happened after the Dugan call, and the Vikes were still in position to tie or take the lead if it weren’t for the Taylor play.
I am so sick
of people talking about the “taunting” penalty that Shawntae Spencer incurred on Bernard Berrian during the 49er game. It is obvious that the ref who called it was standing right next to him and heard him say something that made him throw the flag. I would like to know what he said. I have never heard what it was. People can claim that it was “tame” or “lame”, but unless they know the facts, they should not be questioning it.

The rule does not say anything about what you can and can not say.
Only what you can and can not do.
One thing you cannot do is stand over a player after a tackle. Spencer was not standing over Berrian after the play, he was walking away while shaking his head.
That is PERFECTLY acceptable under the rules.
Verbal taunting happens on every single play. What the NFL does not want is for people watching the game to see it happen, which is why the rule is in place.
I really doubt
you can say whatever you want. I can think of a few things that I would definitely consider penalized taunting. But I’m just saying.

Not to keep rehashing this point.
But this is the NFL’s definition of taunting. Any flagrant acts or remarks that deride, mock, bait or embarrass an opponent are considered taunting.

rarely do i think that refs win or lose a game for a team, regardless of all the terrible officiating you see on a weekly basis, but when they make a call like that to take points off the board in a 3 point game with as little time left as there was, you better be damn sure about it, cause that did change the course of the game…
favre, jackson, rosenfels, the tooth fairy... i don't care, just give me a Super Bowl!
I must have some contrarian bent in me, as I enjoy nitpicking victories and finding silver linings in losses:
1) Hats off to Leslie Frazier and the stopgap corners. They planned and played an awesome game. Steelers have an awesome passing game, and while most of us expected Big Ben to go 4th-Quarter-Flacco on the Winfield-less secondary, for the most part they did a solid job. Even the long TD pass was more poor execution/tackling from the starting safeties (again) than anything. (I mean, was Williams expecting a hook-and-ladder or something? It looked like he made a move in the wrong direction after the catch by the guy right in front of him.) (Also, it is me, or does Frazier seem to coach a little better when he has lesser talent?)
2) Asher Allen showed glimpses. He mixed it up in the run game, made a game-saving open field tackle on special teams, and showed some playmaking swerve by stripping Big Ben at the end of the game (btw, memo to Ray Edwards: fall on the ball). Paymah had a decent game, too.
3) Do you think people like saying “Big Ben” because they really don’t want to spell “Roethlesberger”? (Yes, I think I just butchered that spelling.)
4) Sidney Rice might be turning into a legitimate #1 right before our eyes.
5) Too many penalties from the o-line, and the Steelers managed some occasional pressure (but when don’t they?). But I thought the o-line did a servicable job. All these 3-4 teams in the first half here seemed to have really shortened the learning curve. Just thinking how bad they looked at times against Cleveland in the opener…I think if you would’ve told me they’d go into Heinz Field and not embarrass themselves, I’d have taken it. Too many penalties, though.
6) Childress and Bevell have gone pass-wacky! But I think a lot of it might be teams are still cheating to the run, and I’d rather see this than “imposing our will” anytime…
Well said!

Hmmmm

34 for 51 and 1 pick (not his fault) 1 fumble (protection broke down, hit readying to throw) and a touchdown erased – If Favre doesn’t thow as much as he did, we’re not in this one. Please, enough with the whole ‘Brett is too old to do that’. He should have shut the mouths of any naysayer by now, especisally Vikes fans. You will have games where it may be neccessary – hopefully more holes will open up courtesy of the Oline to minimize it. You gotta admit the passing game has been the force the last 3 weeks…
Mentionworthy IMO was poor playcalls on where to run the ball – which held AP back again. He rarely failed to gain when running to his right, yet was sent left and up the gut alot of times for little or nothing.
No need to talk about the guys from Footlocker who were called in to officiate this game.
I thought AP should have been in there too
They know we’re passing when C.Taylor is in, and having AP on the field opens more passing lanes….. Plus AP handled a screen-pass just fine a few plays earlier.
