Quit spoiling the good name of your team

For a moment when I came here after the game, I thought I clicked the Seahawks or Ravens link by accident. Quit ruining the reputation of your team by going on about the referees. Bad calls happen. Frequently. They happened to the Steelers today too. If Miller gets blocked into a defensive back, is that pass interference? Ward catches a pass, and has busted free to open ground, but a stupid defensive delay of game penalty negates the play, even though penalties on the defense are supposed to be free plays, correct?

You know why you lost? Not because of the referees. Not because the Steelers are the better team (as a Steeler fan I rank our teams equal after today). Because our defense took advantage of 2 mistakes by your offense. Its what great defenses do, ask the Cowboys and Ravens. Oh, and everyone saying we wouldn't win without our defense, as if this somehow makes our team worse, you're right. Except on us being worse because we have a great defense. Its called 2 sides of the ball, and unlike most teams, our defense is good enough to completely bail out the offense when they stutter.

Vikings played a hell of a game today and you guys should be looking forward to a great season. You already won me over when you beat Baltimore last week, and I would love to meet around the first week of Feb. Should be a hell of a game. Again.

OH and an aside. That "tripping call" was incorrect, I will give you guys that. It WAS a chop block however. He went down right at Harrisons knees. Either way, it being a penalty was the correct call. Sorry to ruin the party.

Edit: Since I am man enough to admit my mistake, I'll leave that in there. I do understand the rules on chop blocking now, I was ignorant on the subject, at most I was just confused on the rules. Now, I don't think it was tripping, but with his legs scissored in the air like that, it doesn't seem like such a crazy call to me. Then again, it didn't go against my team. Though some calls DID *see above* May our next game be cleaner and better officiated. That's something I think both teams fans can agree on.

penalty

i’m pretty sure chop blocks are legal if the player isn’t already engaged with another player which he wasn’t. i’m not 100% sure but about 90% sure it was a legal block.

and i agree it was a great game.no doubt. very enjoyable. steelers are one of my top three favorite teams. primarily cuz of tomlin being a former minnesota guy.

I always thought the rule was going for the knees. Either way, he DID put his feet up. Even if its no contact, it’s still technically a trip. I’ll concede that, if everyone on here concedes to the illegal block in the back during your kick off return.

Sure… like there is on EVERY ST play, there was probably a block in the back.

Hey, that ref was asking for it.

When you go to somebody's house, you don't crap on their floor. Being a fan of one team does NOT give you license to be a dick to fans of another.

Corollary: When people are visiting your house and behaving themselves, them being a fan of a different team is NOT a reason for you to piss in their beer.

Apparantly, you don’t understand physics.

When you force your upper body to the ground like in a cut block, your legs naturally rise up off the ground a bit as your body rotates on axis. If you watch, you will see his legs rise up a MAXIMUM of 1 foot off the ground.

It happens on EVERY cut block, and the penalty was bull. What they call Ticky-Tac. Much like recievers hand-fighting. It is technically pass interference, but if they called it on every play the game would not go anywhere. The same goes for holding, it happens on every play but they only call the most blatant.

This “tripping” was at the lowest possible level of that spectrum, and should not have been called.

Who's spoiling anything?

We’ve made two things clear…

a) The Vikings are more to blame than the refs for the loss.
b) HOWEVER…had the refs not blown the tripping call, the 14-point swing wouldn’t have happened. The Vikings would have led by four rather than trailed by 10.

How are those two points unreasonable?

by Anthony21 on Oct 25, 2009 11:55 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

a) very true. sadly

b) also true

Makes sense to me

I’m not blaming the refs for all the false start calls, the Vikings did that all by themselves, but defensive delay of game? And the phantom trip call cost us. I’m moving on to next week.

1) Take your gloating opinions elsewhere

2) Learn the rules if you’re going to insist you know what they are. That was absolutely no chop block.

I DO understand about the two players now though

I had never heard it put like that. On tele it was always said to be a block below the knees, like he goes straight for the legs before the defender can get to him. A lot of places dont specify on that, so excuse my ignorance on one point. It happens.

Whether it was foul or not it didn’t look like a clean play but from one angle where Harrison clearly gets over him. Again, his legs are up. If your a line judge, you dont really get to see Harrison get a jump over the legs. From your angle it looks like he tripped since his legs go up in the air and Harrison goes down.

I know coming onto a Vikings site and trying to espouse this is heresy today, but I enjoy having random people on the internet lose their shit, so I’ll take my chances.

And if you're not saying anything

I’m obviously not referring to you. I see and saw alot of blame placed on the refs on this site. I’m sick of every close game in this league being placed on the refs. As fans, I think we need to stop that nonsense and be men about our losses.

by svenhoek on Oct 26, 2009 6:12 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

And refs, and their apologists, need to own up to their mistakes

And realize they can be game changing events.

Can't take away the mistakes....

Yes Vikings did make mistakes, no doubt….Turnovers are based on pressure etc. from defenses, and we had a couple that were game changers…In every game luck is involved as well….This “luck” operates in a chaotic manner with seemingly no rhyme or reason (i.e. turnovers may happen)….

Referees also play a part in this chaos (or luck/lack thereof) we witness week in and week out….In this game too many penalties that the Vikings deserved did play a part, but other questionable ones called did as well…unlucky I guess…I am nonetheless proud of how our team played this one in spite of the shortcomings…

We can Monday morning QB this issue all day long….but bottom line is we played a hard game, it wasn’t enough on this day, and there will be another day where it may be….Vikes do not have to hang their heads…and obviously Steelers either….I have said that if we had to drop a game, preferably it would be this one…

I am sure we will see each other again – in the SB! Steelers have the potential, as do Vikings….based on what I heard (have not seen the game yet) both teams are pretty darn good….Our path to the SB is through NO (amazing they came back to get the W….), and the path for the Steelers will probably be through the Indianapolis Colts I predict….

I will look forward to the rematch!

I agree there's been too much complaining about that call, but...

…we just lost a heart breaking game. People will wail and gnash their teeth when that happens; a few won’t get over it, but most of us will.

You guys won a thriller. You won the game. won. Why so much focus, both here and on your own boards, on a small subset of fans of another team? (I’m seeing maybe six or seven people here who keep belaboring this) Is it just not satisfying enough for you to have won?

No not at all

At the risk of sounding sanctimonious, Steeler fans have put up with this stuff since SBXL. Were sick of every close exciting game our fantastic defense wins for us, everyone on the internet exploding about refs. We can never just win a game, we pay off the refs or are favored by Goodell. After a good game I would like to come onto another teams site to say gg, and not have to be subject to everyone claiming we dont deserve to win. It gets fucking old. Goodell has it out for us if anything with all the crazy ass fines he levels on us.

Deal with it.

And quit crying about it if your winning suck it up.

uhhh.....what?

I think you came over here poking around. Minne has always been classy. We cant run around & brag our arss off at how our team has won..what? 52 superbowls like the Steelers?? go gloat with your fellow Steeler fans. Basically, the Vikes kicked the Steelers tails up and down the field all day long, in YOUR house. go back to YOUR house. You won. Congrats. Troll elsewhere. Go have a beer and enjoy your teams ability to always win. We Viking fans have suffered through the bitter fruit for decades. GET LOST!

Nice call by the refs also. You cant deny that Steeler-boy.

Take the words from Migrant Lurkers post & get the F off of our board.

I love it. A bitchy, whiney Steelers fan. F’n winning all the time just isnt enough huh? And coming on to a Vikings web-site none the less. Pathetic dude…just pathetic.

I hope your f’n team moves to LA. You deserve it. un’b’fing’leiavable. GET A LIFE!

Steelers

man handled the Vikings all day long. They basically ran whenever they wanted. It was the pass protection on the steelers part that was faulty

by PackaCracka on Oct 26, 2009 11:06 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

You think so?

Look at the game stats Pack.
Passing
Favre 34/51 334 yards and no TD’s
Roth 14/26 175 yards and 1 TD.
Rushing
Peterson 18 carries 69 yards 1 TD
Mendenhal 10 carries 69 yards 0 TD’s
Taylor 3 carries 14 yards 0 TD’s
M Wallace 2 carries 19 yards 0 TD’s

So no I don’t think the steelers shut us down by any stretch. They did stop us from getting TD’s which is impressive but then we stopped them as well. We lost this one to mistakes (2 of them), not because the Steelers completely beat us down. Seriously were you watching the game?

by Grime on Oct 26, 2009 12:28 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I didn't say

they shut you down. I said they man handled the Vikings, in the trenches, and in the backfield. You can’t stop Rice all the time, and thats how the Steelers “almost” lost

by PackaCracka on Oct 26, 2009 12:34 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'm not sure how we were manhandled.

We rushed as much as they did, scored the same amount on offense threw the ball for twice what pitsburgh did. Red Zone they squashed us I will agree there, but they didn’t do much better in ours.. I would say it was a pretty even game, where Minnesotas offense and defense showed up to play and a couple of mistakes landed it in Pit’s lap. Actually it’s sort of karmic after that Ravens game.

^^^

i’m the troll.

My post was full of respect and I never said anything remotely troll-ish. I’m sorry you’re taking this so hard.

by svenhoek on Oct 26, 2009 12:46 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions   0 recs

Not trying to lose my class

However, if you win a lot and Pit does people will bitch about it (and they do). You as a classy fan have to deal with this. It sucks but trust me losing and bitching about calls sucks even more.

SO… take away from this, people don’t like losing people will get emotional about it. Hell it’s football. The game in all was a good game I don’t think the officiating truly screwed it for us we had plenty of chances and screwed ourselves.

You beat us, enjoy the feeling if we meet again you won’t be feeling it a second time.

I'll gladly take that bet.

Have a great season Vikings fans.
