Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

excuses...

i didnt get to watch the game because i was heading back home from visiting my family in Texas, so i didnt get to see all the "bad calls" that other people are blaming this one on, i did however see turnovers caused by the Steelers D... and the goal line stop(where we should have tried to run ball at least once more)...now of course the INT caused by chester tippin the ball instead of catching it(which looked a little high) and fallin into the hands of the Steelers was a flute, but the fact is Good teams make other teams make mistakes and take advantage of them. i think the fact we had Grandpa Favre throw the ball over 50 times in the game has something to contribute to yesterdays loss. we have arguably the BEST RB  duo in the league and AP was only handed the ball 18 times i believe. we need better play calling, so i am puttin this on Chilly

The calls were BS, but there are always BS calls.

We needed to play well enough to cover for any mistakes or flukes, and we simply did not.

Steelers played a great game, and so did we.

I Think the Steelers are...

‘that good’ against the run.
Gave that a ‘go’ in the first half and found success with the pass in the 2nd half.
Got to give credit to the coaches for making that adjustment…

The Vikes played tough… on the road, against a very good team (SB winners) and almost walked out with a win.

Nothing to cry about anymore… get over the ‘excuses’, time to look toward Lambeau and another W.

GO VIKES!!

I BELIEVE...

+ LOTS

Couldn’t agree more….

Personally I am reviewing the last game w Green Bay as I write this….

Have now seen the game from yesterday as well (lots of football for me today…YEAH!)

Will make a post after finishing the earlier game – because lots of improvements from that time to now w our team…

Packers are really right to be scared….we are really MUCH improved in general…and specifics…i.e. passing, defense (I know I know), Rice, etc.

Ooooof!

SKOL!

I would rather be IN the Arena than watching from the stands...That is my life!

No Great Defense..

gives up the most passing yards on any given Sunday like the Steeler’s did. Not even Drew Brees or Peyton Manning would have felt it was a really bad day if he had gotten as many yards as Favre had yesterday.

This was not a Chilly fiasco. The strategy is if they stack to stop the run, you kill them with the pass, and if they drop back to stop the pass, you kill them with the run. Sounds like the best offensive plan that I’ve ever heard. When you are behind, you throw (especially if it is working), because the clock is not your friend.

Footballs are designed to take funny bounces. All hot hands get cold in a hurry when you roll snake eyes. Chester Taylor has very good hands, but tipped balls somewhat favor the defense, and until Favre grows eyes in the back of his head, he is vulnerable to a strip that he can’t see coming. Mostly, the protection was good, but mostly won’t cut it sometimes.

When you have two single-play swings totaling perhaps 28 points and you only lose by 10, you were doing something right that day, just not enough. The other team is not supposed be the one to score when your team is in the red zone, but it happens. People who think lightning never strikes twice merely haven’t played enough football.

It’s not about excuses. Mistakes are just natures way of encouraging the wise to practice more before you get to the playoffs (or else you won’t get there). You can’t do the referee’s job; you have to work on doing your own better.

Remember, if the best team always won, bookies would probably go out of business.

Nice, Elgar!

They were good against the run and took advantage of (really) lucky breaks.
That’s how ‘the ball bounces’…

I BELIEVE...

Love it

Excellent post, Elgar. Your rantings have concerned me in the past, but I’m beginning to see your value.

For those of you into Schadenfrued

Jermical Finley is almost assured to be ’’out’’ next game per Mike McCarthy’s today press conference. That’s big, as he was more or less en fuego last time we played.

That's HUGE NEWS!

Finley is a solid TE, and the Vikings DB’s need all the breaks they can get.
Go Vikes!

Next thing you know we'll be running it too much..

and people will be bitching about us not going for the kill. Then we should have passed more because we’re being to conservative.

yeah i mean,

we could all be Head Coaches in the NFL. I think I should apply. I’ll turn the Lions into a Super Bowl contender in my first year. LOL

Disagree with being Chillys fault

Unlike last week, he did try a pass into the endzone, the players failed to deliver. Tried running, players failed to deliver. We had 11 penalties. Horrid blocking in 2 defensive TD returns. A QB who fumbled, a freak INT, several easy catches that should have been made but not and a few bad punts. I certianly do not see how some supposed lack of play calling is to blame for the loss. Other then a bad call by the ref, WE, as a TEAM, lost the game and handed the ball to the Steelers. One bad call does not end a game. After that happened, we commited TWO turnovers. How does that become the ref’s fault or Chilly’s? Yes, many people know Ive never been a Chilly fan, but I will stand behind him on this one. This was a team effort of turning the game into a cluster f&$k, and the Vikings have no one to blame but themselves AS a team. PERIOD!

"That is the craziest sonofabitch I ever saw, how many more like him do you think are up there?"

I'm not a big Chilly fan but I agree it was not his fault

Actually, i was impressed with Chilly passing the ball on first downs. Heck he even passed the ball to start the game. GO GO CHILLY!

Seriously we played a great team. We nuetered Big Ben and drove on their D through out the second half. The only problem was in the red zone the Steelers go homicidal and smooshed us. next time we get in the five i say we just kick a field goal :D
