Feel Better After This Loss Than Most
I wanted to wait about 24 hours to really reflect on this game, because what you say or write in the heat of the moment isn't necessarily what you want the world to see, or what you truly feel.
This was a winnable game, and when the Vikes answered the first Pittsburgh defensive TD with the Percy Harvin kick return, then a defensive stop, I thought they had a chance. When Adrian Peterson ran over William Gay and let out that Primeval scream, my Dad and I looked at each other and said 'we're going to win this game'. We NEVER feel that absolute and certain about the Vikings ability to win a game late. The Vikings have elevated their play to another level this year, and they are on par physically and mentally with any other team in the NFL.
Obviously, they didn't win, but neither of us were truly upset that they lost. Disappointed, most definitely, but the Vikings will win more of these games than they will lose, and if they meet Pittsburgh again on a neutral field, Minnesota will win.
This is the bottom line for me: If the Vikings have a healthy Brett Favre, the ball, time on the clock, and are within a score, they will win 9 times out of 10.
They beat Green Bay by two scores next week. Mark it down.

Nice Post
I felt the same way. I was kind of surprised by all the anger after this game. I felt we played solid but the Steelers took advantage of a couple of opportunities and they deserved the win for that reason.
The way I see it, the Vikings had the game in hand, a game against the defending champs, in their stadium. I would have liked a win, but I don’t think we have anything to be ashamed of, and I’m not going to waste my time complaining about the refs.

you want to see anger?
Head on over to the Bears site haha.
Oh and by the way, Cutler blows!!

Lol.
Poor Bears fans.
To be honest, they should know from the start that Cutler and the team would take at least a year to gel. Shit, Brett came from a similar system and still took a few weeks to get on the same page as everyone.
They don’t have the receivers needed to boost Cutler along, and their defense is banged up to all hell.

that was mostly the beer talking
I was upset but not angry, I bet twenty years ago I would have been more angy after quit a few beers!
it is better to be thought of as dumb then to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

Great Game
I was so impressed with twp things during the game.
1) Vikes Secondary. Except for one big run on a slant play with poor tackling they played great. I expected 4-5 big pass plays against them.
2) Pittsburg Linebackers. I charted each play and I can’t believe how fast and disciplined there linebackers play. They only stacked the box once during the 2nd half and we still couldn’t open up many holes.
I was with you though. The ball on the 20 with time to win and Brett at the Helm. Well, sometimes you win ( San Fransisco) and sometimes you lose. Home field makes a big difference.

The secondary isn't getting enough credit
Benny Sapp is playing MUCH better this year than I’ve seen from him in the past. Asher Allen looked good on the few plays he had as a CB. Most surprising, Paymah played well and didn’t get burned while he was in.

Paymah
plus Paymah made a statement when he popped Hines Ward and jarred the ball loose. I think it was Paymah anyways..

I agree
I was disappointed until I thought about the fact that I was convinced we weren’t going 16-0 anyway. And to lose a game against the champs, on their home field, when you outplayed the a good part of the game, is still something to be proud of.
We finished strong and their is no doubt they don’t want to play us again!

first off that was a great game and the vikings were as i expected a extremely tough opponent and if this was at the metrodome it probably would have been the other way around…but dont kid yourself were the defending champs for a reason and theres no team in the world the steelers dont wana play again ;) i think the 3 games against the ravens last year proved that but heres too meeting in miami, good luck the rest of the way you got a hell of a team

Good post....
I am same on nit being TOO upset….This game was not as bad as the score indicated, and showed the potential of what we have here coming for the rest of the season….
I for one am looking for to the a##-whupping we are gonna put on Packers this weekend…I do not think it will be as close as the last game….
SKOL!
I would rather be IN the Arena than watching from the stands...That is my life!

luck...
had to catch up eventually. Look how close the last 3 games were, eventually the Vikings were going to lose one of those. They better learn how to put a game away soon, teams that fall apart in the fourth quarter don’t usually win titles.

As much as I hate to admit it
It was weird seeing you guys lose because I felt like it was the best I’ve seen you guys play so far.

I actually like you guy. You are still a Packers fan and show me the stats that I try to ignore but you are likable

AVF- I’m not sure how to feel really. We looked the best we have so far this year this past week but it was against the Browns. Having Bigby back has helped our defense out a great deal, and there no longer seems to be a huge gaping hole in the middle of our pass defense. I think we’ll do much better against the pass on defense but I have a hard time seeing us stopping AP to the degree that we did last game. I guess my biased prediction would be 31-28 Packers but really I could see it going either way.
Loafrat- Thanks. I like to try to be realistic, and try to present myself in a logical manner. I really enjoy coming over here and talking football with all you guys.

+1
Me, too bro. The one thing folks seem to be overlooking from last week was how little the secondary ( especially Paymah’s side) was thown at. 26 attempts?!? If I know the Pack, they’ll be looking to tear a gaping hole in it. And they could, if the pressure isn’t as relentless as last time.

Funny you say that
I felt the same way. So did most people that saw the game. Every win was quantified—-but you just beat the Browns/Lions…got lucky against the Niners…the Ravens just ran out of time…almost collapsed against Green Bay. But against the Steelers it was…wow, you took the best punch the defending SB champs had to offer, in their house, and nearly beat them, but for two fluke plays at the end.
I don’t say this because you are a Packers fan, because I really respect the quality and tone of your posts, but I think this will be a ‘Favre moment’, if you will, on Sunday, like it was a few weeks ago, or a few years ago after his Dad died, and the Vikes will win convincingly.
Favre just raises his game on those occasions, and I think the game on Sunday will be one of those moments. The Browns was a feel good win, but it was the Browns. The Packers still have protection issues, they still can’t run the ball consistently, and the Vikings seem pissed that they lost and determined to prove they belong in the ‘elite teams’ discussion. But hey, you aren’t the Bears, lol. They’ve got issues.
I’m looking forward to how the crowd reacts. As a Packer fan, how are you feeling about this, and do you think he should be cheered, booed, or a combination of the two?

Yeah I know what you mean
It was the first game Vikings lost, yet I felt like (outside a couple mistakes/bad breaks) it was maybe the best game we’d played to date. Although the offense in the 1st Q was pretty anemic.

The passing defense
Though it originally felt great to see our pass defense hold up against one of the league’s best, I slowly began to realize the reason. With those two big defensive returns, Big Ben and company barely had the ball at all in the 4th quarter (or, as most Viking’s DBs know it as, “Folding Time”). Thats when the damage of previous games was inflicted. In this game the Steelers weren’t able to pass simply because they didn’t have the ball. Lets wait till after the Packers game to rejoice over Antoine’s fill-ins.

Pack o.k.
This should be a fun one boys & girls. The Pack needs this game pretty bad if they are to contend for the north. They are a decent team. I’ll give the Vikes the edge because we are the better team. We need to get AP back on track and have a big game. If that happens chalk one up in the W. column.
