The Booty has left the building

First Tyler Thigpen and now John David Booty.

Booty had a tryout with the Houston Texans yesterday and today he signed with the Tennessee Titans.

With TJack  set to become a free agent after this year and the inevitable "will he, won't he" retirement drama coming this off season with Favre where does that leave the Vikings QB of the future? Sage Rosencopter?

Anyway, we've discussed variations on this theme before, but farewell Booty, I have only one regret, that I never really had the chance to chant your last name at the dome.

Booooottttteeeeeeeeeee!!!  Booootttteeeeeee!!!!

This is good for JDB!

lost in the shuffle and the Titans need help at QB…
Hopefully this turns out to be his opportunity.

I just hope he doesn’t go on to QB greatness (like others have) without the Vikings.

I BELIEVE...

Anyone else here wonder if we need a new QB coach?

Booty picked up as a third stringer

I’m not concerned with who we let go. Would you really rather have Booty on the practice squad or some defensive back help? Would you rather have Booty than an experienced backup like Sage?

Believe it or not we bought Sage for two years for one reason. He is experienced and T-Jax might not get another contract with the Vikes. Good Insurance. Mayby not Gold plated but a capable QB while a new person is groomed.

And who will that new person be?

Because it’s no longer Booty…

How many do you want to keep?

We have 3 servicable QBs on the team right now, we’re in the NFL’s top 5 for QB experience/quality depth. Booty was pure luxury and to be honest, he hasn’t demonstrated anything to be excited about.

Let’s say, worst case scenario, Favre retires at the end of the season and T-Jack runs way to the CFL (where, by the by, he’s a perfect fit with his abilities and their style of play). That leaves us with Rosenfels and 2 slots to fill. At least we won’t have Booty hogging up one of those slots with his inability.

I wish JDB the best of luck

I will miss having him as a vike! I saw him as our future QB.

What were they thinking

I know he’s not a roster gimme, but why would the Vikings mortgage a chance on a future QB whom they drafted and groomed for a nameless, talentless CB? I don’t get it in the least. Its one thing to drop Booty during preseason cutdowns, but during the season? Dumb, dumb, dumb. Hope he does blossom somewhere else. Teach the Vikings a lesson (which they should have learned from Thigpen) about letting go of any QB talent in a QB talentless league.

The thing is other teams can sign your practice squad players, so having him or a talentless CB there doesn’t really make any difference. In order to keep him we would have to drop TJax or Sage and I don’t think management was ready to make that call.

If I’m understanding it correctly, he wasn’t signed by another team until after we dropped him, meaning the Vikings weren’t forced to take any action on him at all. They were perfectly safe just keeping him stashed on the practice squad. No signs of any other team pursuing him.

Anyone on the practice squad of any time is fair game to be signed away as a regular roster guy by any other team.

We moved Booty to the practice squad, then after a couple weeks we dropped him, then brought him back onto the practice squad a week later. He should have been fine there, in a ‘holding pattern’ while the team shakes down through the year, but the Titans decided they could use him. Good for Booty, I hope he does ok, but we didn’t lose anything that we were serious about keeping.

So the Titans signed him off our practice squad? I thought we cut him first and then they signed him. I didn’t know that.

Maybe I should pick up Booty as a FF backup

I did with Thigpen last year and he got me a championship in one league
