Please.
I know we had a couple of losers from that side come over here during the week. . .hellooooooooooooo, GreenandBold. . .but don't go over there and start anything.
This is the first sweep of Green Bay the Vikings have put together since 2005. Let's act like we deserved it.

Congrats!!
Just wanted to pass along my congrats on great game. I have been going to Lambeau for 25+ years and have to say I was as pumped for this one as any including a few championship games. My hats off to the Vikes for a great 1st half, that was an asswhippin’. I am also proud of the Pack for making a game of it in the second half. It was most definately not "Junk Time" as mentioned in the first matchup. There was some seriously hard playing going on in front of me. I really thought we had it when we got within 4 pts. I was pretty happy with our D. against AP, but that guy is gonna get his. He is a stud. I am most proud of my man Brett. He is a legend and clinched it on Sun. Even that goofball Jim Rome is publicly admitting he was wrong about him……..I have been saying it since I watched him at Milw. Co Stadium in 1992. The greatest ever! Enjoy having him to watch and cheer for. I know I did and still do. The dude just loves the game.
The division is yours for the taking and the Vikes earned it on Sun.
I am cheering for Brett and hope he gets them a ring, I think they have a great chance to win it all.
Go NFC North!

Although it’s very hard not to go over and tell them how they should have done better against us seeing as how sweet their D did against the Lions and Browns.

But.
It was versus Lions and Browns… They make any D look good.

I was being sarcastic...
They were talking about how their D was going to shut us down because they dominated the Browns and Lions.

So...hard...to resist.
QB Brett Favre sure was pumped up beating his old team. I lost whatever respect I had left for him after that one. He wasn’t supposed to throw the game, but for all his talk about being “it’s just another game”, it sure looked like payback time. I’m a Packer fan first, although you can find me defending him up-and-down if you feel like combing through this site’s archives. Hopefully karma kicks him hard some day.
But resist we must.

I still can't figure out what they meant.
They’re mad at Favre because he was happy the Vikings won?
by Anthony21 on Nov 2, 2009 1:00 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
It's a very difficult thing for them to come to grips with still
Trust me on this. When Favre first said at end of July he was gonna stay retired, there were a sizable # of people on sports radio in WI who sincerely believed he intended to do it all along, that it was some machinatioin to create turmoil in Vikings locker room & that pulling out at last minute proved he was “still one of us.” I kind you not. There were probably still a few who even yesterday expected favre to ly down for the Packers, and then presumably be buried in his Green Bay jersey.
Sports fan emotions are strange sometimes.

+10
Favre could have (and maybe should have) hammered them in that last series, but he didn’t. That was a choice (and not one I’m completely happy with).
Then on the last play, when the Pack should have taken a knee as a courtesy for us not racking at least 3 more points on them, they actually really tried hard to put another final score on the board. That was mildly irritating, and to me, confirmed that we should have grinded the heel a bit more firmly on their throats.

Congrats!
From a True Pack fan (one that doesn’t boo their own HOF players)-
Vikes played a heck of a game. I just love how the critics dish Favre. He is one hell of a player. Enjoy him. We sure did.
One question tho- the Vikes second-half defense. They gave up on big leads on the Ravens and the Pack. Think it’s fatigue? The offense making adjustments at the half? Just curious.
Good luck against those pesky Bears. They seem to always have your number.
by KennyZ on Nov 1, 2009 6:48 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
Thx!
my 3 reasons:
Rodgers protection improved.
Vikings D doesn’t have Winfield and The Packers realized it.
GB coaching adjustments.
by CrazyCollegian on Nov 1, 2009 6:50 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Spot on assessment. Eventually Frazier brought some blitzes when the front four couldn’t mount any pressure….perhaps from fatigue??
by cutlassbob on Nov 1, 2009 7:01 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Agree
Packers changed protection scheme in 2d half. Kind of makes you wonder…?
Also, it appeared Vikes D-line got tired in 3d Q.

Should we be rotating D linemen more often then? Obviously production/talent drops off from the starters but perhaps fresh guys a few more snaps couldn’t hurt…
by cutlassbob on Nov 1, 2009 8:51 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Most of the pass rush from the front 4 is generated from Allen and Kevin Williams, two guys who virtually never take a play off. I do think fatigue may be a contributing factor.
by jianfu on Nov 1, 2009 10:01 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I’ve been saying this for three weeks. I know they’re not playing well right now but I really believe that the 2007 Giants team is the blueprint for good DLine play (7 good players constantly rotated).
by zebano on Nov 4, 2009 8:59 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Yes, but how come they came back to life in the 4th?
That doesn’t make sense… if you’re tired in the 3rd, after a 15 minute break, you’re not going to be less tired later on.

Blitz
Frazier started to blitz more in the 4th Quarter.
Also, adrenaline is a funny thing. I used to play a LOT of hoops. The second wind would sometimes come after a long spell of just being totally gassed.

True that
When I played Jr. and Sr. High football in the Twin Cities, there were games I was totally pumped the whole time. Then there were games that by the 2nd or 3rd, I was done. Then alas, the games that late in the 3rd or 4th, it was like I had a week off and a whole new game. It is weird, unexplainable, frustrating yet enjoyable.

I'll buy that...
But it suggests that one of the reasons our D is so good in the 1st half is that they’re playing all-out and exhausting themselves… I don’t believe for a minute that they’re out of shape, but maybe we need some more depth to cover things, give guys a breather.

I meant to write "I just love how the critics DISS Favre"
Like back in 2005. ESPN went on and on about he was going to be a utility QB. Then he goes out and throws TD after TD. Kind of like this year- I think that he proved tonight why he is the Vikings best QB (if not the best QB in the NFC North).
by KennyZ on Nov 1, 2009 6:50 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Thanks KennyZ
Nice to have someone big enough to come over and say that!
About our defense…. I have wondered the same thing also about fatigue because we play “balls out” on our defensive line every play of every first half. Then when these guys stop getting the pressure they do early we begin to show how inexperienced we are in our secondary….. Missing Winfield didn’t help either.
by PurpleJesus on Nov 1, 2009 6:59 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Thanks!
Nice to see some classy Packer fans, it really is. Thanks!
On the tendency for the Vikings D to totally freaking collapse in the second half, wreaking terrible damage and pain to our collective hearts and threatening coronaries… No. We don’t have a consensus on why that happens…. I thought it was fatigue, but they caved in the third Q this game, much earlier, by the time we got to the 4th Q, the D was standing back up again. Mostly. Still have a lot of issues with basic tackling, but at least they were showing up. Hopefully things will be much better when Winfield returns.

I just love football, guys.
For the record, I was embarrassed by the fan treatment of Favre. Making it worse, they didn’t boo when Allen would sack Rodgers then do his little move, whatever that is… ;) What was up with that???? Bunch of whiny crybabies.
As much as I hate that awful Viking horn blowing… it’s a bit easier to stomach when Favre is moving the chains.

To be fair, the blitz is a real boom or bust type of choice by a D. If the Offense completes a play they can often gain tons of yards after catch due to the lack of defenders and single coverage makes completing that pass potentially easier.I’m a big fan of occasional 5 man blitzes but I really think 6+ is suicide against a good QB (and AR qualifies).

I only come here Gonzo, and I ain’t about to go picking on the Packers fans. I’m sure they are feeling the sting still, and I am (regardless of what my critics might say) a good sport. Today was not an easy win, Green Bay looked like they caught fire in the second half, and I was a little scared at some points. We won, and now we are 7-1, I’m satisfied.

Winfield
Def missed Winfield, of course and our def stopped blitzing in 2nd half. Then after Packers made a run, we decided to go back to putting more pressure on Rodgers. Need to stop playing conservative def and letting teams back in game !!!
by WVVikings on Nov 1, 2009 7:44 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
I didn't see
too much conservative type D called. They were even blitzing during the last few minutes of the game. I loved that they did not go to the all-out prevent. Missed tackles was what led to the Packers comeback. Maybe it wa fatigue, maybe it is just something that needs to be worked on. I really can’t wait til Winfield is back.

The Vikings won classy
The Vikings were the better team, and played that way. There were a few mistakes. There were correctable errors. Robison will learn to not fumble the ball in that situation, for example. Sullivan and Favre will improve communication.
Chad Greenway made 10 tackles. Greenway was everywhere.
Ray Edwards played great! 2 sacks! He was really coming on. I hope he wasn’t hurt badly when he left the game. He is a huge part of the defense, and has the ability to make this defense really, really good.
The defensive line played great.
The safeties did a better job of tackling today. The DBs generally did. There is still room for improvement.
Special teams were awesome.
It was a team victory. The Vikings stuck together as a team, and behaved respectfully toward their opponents and fans. It paid off when the Packers had a penalty to keep a Vikings drive alive. That was the first touchdown for the Vikings.
Childress’s first win in Lambeau! May it be the first of many!

Great Win ...
That was solid victory today. However, I have to take exception to the reasoning on the collapse of the defense being because Winfield is out. That does not seem to be the case because they shut down Pitt without Winfield, and gave up tons of yards to other offenses even when Winfield was playing.
It HAS to be the scheme or the play-calling. It needs to get rectified yesterday.

You can't blame the D collapse on him....Not this time anyway...
Yes, we’ve seen it time and time again, but it was at Green Bay, a game which Green Bay expected to win….who knows what McCarthy said to pump up that team, and get there heads back into it. They also had 2 quarters to figure out adjustments after seeing what worked, and what didn’t…..
My take on it is after playing 2 terrible teams, and getting an ego boost, they assumed there play calling that worked in the previous 2 weeks would work now, and also assumed the pressure and fans would have gotten to them….just Friday they had a “Funeral 4 Favre” in Green Bay, where people mourned his death, and burnt his memorabilia….talk about head games.

Prevent D
I don’t like it… I like playing hard and tight, all the way through a game, but there’s a method to the madness… and it mostly seems to work. Give up the yards but don’t give up the big points. The issue I have is that it tends to give up an FG, or if they timing is right, a TD in the seam. As that guy in the gold commercial would say… “Unreliable!”

I think it’s time to stop. Just my opinion, please take it as that, not that I’m telling you.
Things are not only hitting rock bottom over there, they have punched right through the bottom and are hurtling towards the earth’s core. I just read over there a Cowboys fan (!) posting “yeah we’re riding high after beating Philly, but those of us who know better, know you guys are a wounded Tiger and could easily beat us.” Something like that. Then Packallday555 replies somethign like “well, maybe for a couple quarters, but we can’t do it a whole game.”
Really sad. No need to kick these guys while they’re down IMO, they are kicking themsleves harder than any Viking fan ever could after all. hope the few still doing it over there will reconsider.
