Favre Cam and what I noticed
Watching Favre Cam and the game at the same time I noticed that Sage spends a whole lot more time with Favre going over formations than T-Jack. Sage wasn't just listening either, he was pointing things out and it looked like a 2way conversation for sure. If those two are actually trying to improve in this situatian, it sure seems like Sage is taking advantage. I have to think that Sage should be the #2 guy based on what I saw.

hold on
That is not a fair to call out T jack like that … t jack is the 2nd string qb .. his job is to relay the plays and signals to brett… so he is in constant communication between the guys in the booth and chilly .. he dont have time to hang around and soak up all bretts knowledge .. be fair

I was thinking the same thing.
When I have seen Jackson on the sideline, he has the headphones on and a clipboard in his hands, even when the defense is on the field.

Sage wants to learn
I was just commenting to my wife on this fact just today. I think Sage understands what the value of a vet QB can do for his career

Kleenex!
What I noticed most on the Favre-cam, was the absence of facial tissue on the sidelines.

Yea, he has been on antibiotics for a week or so.
Looks like something sinus-related.

Tjack actually still has a job
He has more to do than just BS with Favre when he gets off the sideline.

Sigh
This has been discussed on numerous threads in the past already. And was discussed on the KFAN morning show a few times as well.
As the 3rd string QB Sage is responsible for getting and organizing the overhead pictures from the coaches booth and telling him what they’re seeing up there. He also is supposed to relay information from Favre up to the booth in the event of a turnover, or three and out, when Favre doesn’t get much time on the sideline to do so himself.
As the 2nd string QB Tarvaris is supposed to be ready to go in at a moments notice. Which apparently is a strange voodoo thing that involves “keeping your head in the right place” whatever that means.
I agree Tarvaris would probably benefit from a little more time in the QB huddle with Favre and Sage. But it’s Sage’s job to be there. And anyway, we’ll see it play out next year, assuming we resign TJack, when they compete for the roster spot. Whether its as a starter or behind Favre.

Exactly.
Tjack has to be paying attention to the game at all times, it is not his job to wipe Favre’s nose like Rosenthirdstringer does.
2nd stringers have to listen to the plays being called and and he gets to learn from the on-field adjustments that are made on the fly. The third string guy is basically a secretary for the first stringer.

I was not aware...
I was not aware that this had been discussed, thanks for taking the time to layout it out. It just seemed odd as I was looking back and forth. Thanks again!

Sorry
I realized that starting my post with the subject, “sigh” was probably unnecessary. Sorry about that.
Since you watched the Favre cam i have a question for you. Speaking of Favre getting info up to the booth, did you ever see him on the sidelines on the phone up to the booth? It seems like a few years ago you’d often see players on the sideline talking on a phone that was connected to the coaches booth, but I haven’t seen that in a long time.
I wonder if they get rid of the phone? Or are they relying exclusively on players to relay information to other players?

We need a blowout win
The Vikings are 7-1 and going into the bye.
The Vikings should sign Jackson to a new contract. I really, really hope Jackson will agree to stay in Minnesota. It would be awesome having him for the next stage of his career.
We need a blowout win so that T-Jack and Rosenfels can get on the field and do something. Until then, talking about Rosenfels and T-Jack is all just talk.
Having Rosenfels as the veteran backup QB even after this year is a huge positive for the Vikings.
Of course, nobody really knows who will start next year. My hope is that it’s Jackson, but we’ll see.

I would like to see T-Jack next year also
But if he continues to have problems reading defenses then waste no time and
give me the guy who is supposedly BSing with Favre!

I was watching for that aspect of the game and I thought that they showed T-jack just as much as rosencopter talking with Brett. I really hope the vikings re-sign t-jack next year. He has improved every year, He has all of the skills to be a good quarterback but he just hasn’t had the mental capacity for making the reads, etc. Hopefully after sitting under Farve for a year he’ll be better at that.

t-jack
He was thrown into the starting role on a team that was a run-oriented team. Most games he never saw enough action to evaluate him. When they did use him, it was in situations where teams knew we were going to be passing (down by a couple of scores)
With Favre, we still always run on first down, but on second down it appears to me that I don’t know what is coming. With Jackson, Run, Run, Pass 3rd and 5+. anyway- Jackson was given a golden opportunity, but he was only bronzed. (small school to big time)
all in all i’m still open next year for looking in the draft since booty was dropped. We know Sage will be here, but other then that, its hard to say. It could end up being Sage and 2 un-heard of QBs. Watch out though, McNabb might be an option.

TJack is not the answer
yes he throws fine, but watch him. The offense goes completely vanilla when he is in. You can look at stats and that’s fine, but when you actually watch him in the games he looks completely out of his depth. And this is with a Great O line and a amazing running back. He doens’t make reads quickly enough. He stares down his receivers, he gets scared in the pocket and i don’t think he has even aclimated himself to playing at NFL speed yet and he’s been in the league for three years.
I may be wrong but I don’t see him making many adjustments on the line of scrimmage either. Personally, I don’t like Jackson I think he’s a bad player and not quite intelligent enough to play this position in the NFL.

Intelligence
I don’t think that’s the problem…
When a QB goes to the LoS and ‘reads’ the defense, he’s got to see what’s happening, know what it means, analyze it’s impact on his play, then use judgment to adjust to a more effective variation of his play.
I don’t know that raw intelligence is the measure of all that… not sure what the best thing to call it would be though. Situational awareness, maybe. A lot of very smart people can’t figure their way out of a paper bag. Albert Einstein had trouble with basic math.
I think that using intelligence as the basis of what a QB does may be a mistake. Favre is a great QB and has amazing ability and skill when it comes to reading the D and adjusting to take advantage, but he’s no Einstein.
Ah, ah,

From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.
The hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new lands,
To fight the horde, singing and crying: Valhalla, I am coming!
