Would You Rather Have Favre or Aaron Rodgers as Your qb?

This should be fun.

Now, Favre Has More Td' then Rodgers, but Rodgers has 1 less Interception.

Favre Has A Good O-Line, Rodgers Don't!

Rodgers Has What Was Named "The Best Wr Corp" in the Nfc North.

Favre, do.. No I can't say that. Favre Has the Best Wr Corp In The Nfc North.

Rodgers Has An Okay D-Fense that can give him the ball back quick.

Favre has a defense where he has to score a lot of points in the first half to make up what is going to happen in the 2nd half against our defense.

Favre Has Percy Harvin!

Rodgers Has Greg Jennings!

Favre has a cannon arm,

Rodgers can squeeze in some tough passes himself.

Favre is 40

Rodgers is 26!

Favre Has Adrian Peterson.

Rodgers Doesn't!

Okay I could go on and on but honestly, If Rodgers was better than Favre he would've beaten him, at least one out of the two tries to be exact.  Yes Rodgers has more yards, but Yards are misleading. Touchdowns are all that count.

Star-divide

But If it was up to you, who would you pick?

REVENGE came and Favre dominated.........................

Rodgers showed that he is still NO Brett Favre!

Rodgers could have learned behind Favre for a couple more years, but no Teddy T said he was ready. Teddy was wrong.

Rodgers is an overrated arrogant unappreciative punk QB, like told everyone of you.

Please, Rodgers is and will always be an average QB at best!!!!!!

Please explain

how Rodgers is an “unappreciative punk.” You have to be a joke sir, as all evidence points to the opposite conclusion.

Why would I be afraid of you?

Go ahead make yourself look like more of incoherent jackass. Rodgers, given his circumstance, is a stand up character and athlete. Any denial of that is patently false.

Alas R4F, one day you will learn that making a statement in ALL CAPS DOES NOT MAKE IT TRUE.

I don't know about unappreciative...

But he is definately over rated. We’ve played them twice now and he plays scared out of his mind until the team is down so much that they have nothing to lose anymore. Seriously. He played like a punk in the first half.

LOL

Rodgers reminds me of another overrated punk assed QB that parachuted into the NFC North this year and isn’t getting the job done that most media types predicted.

Does anyone else remember the start of the season when we “apparently” had the 3rd best QB in the division? How do you like our QB now?

Awe

But he was at least the answer to McMahon……..oh wait, he was a punk ass too.

Right now at this moment...

I gotta go with Favre. But seriously, I think Rodgers is awesome given his absolutely horrific line situation. He’d put up incredible numbers with some legit pass protection.

If you want to do crazy stuff like win football games, you’d probably want to go with Favre.

Why not all of the above?

Some peoples unsubstantiated opinions aside and including my thoughts on the whole thing, let’s look at things. Favre had two rocky years with the Packers as they weren’t all that great at the time and he was still “green”, no pun intended. Not counting his single Falcons year he really didn’t do much of anything there. 1994 is when the “light switch” got turned on, and the rest as we know, is history and perhaps more in the making.

At this point, Looking at the first two years of both players as starters, Rodgers has the better stats. And that with the atrocious O-line Rodgers has at the moment. Now, in all fairness, I can’t tell you nor remember how god or bad the O-line was for Favre back then. But looking at this game, it makes you wonder how scary Rodgers may be if he had the type of protection that Favre is getting at the moment. Sure, he has had a few gaff’s, so has Brett too. And both played one hell of a good game. So personally, I would take either one as our starter now, or next season and so on. While we know what Favre HAS done, makes you wonder what Rodgers MAY do.

Or may not do

How many QBs have been a flash in the plan and only had a good year or two and then faded to nothingness? Alot.

by VikesFaninNM on Nov 1, 2009 9:56 PM CST up reply actions

Aaron Rodgers

did nothing but sit his first 3 years (35/59, 1 TD, 1 INT, 9 sck’s)
Favre on the other hand (620/997, 37 TD, 39 INT, 65 sck’s)

Favre had to learn on the job, unlike Aaron Rodgers he did not have the luxury of sitting behind a fHoF for three years to learn how to play. I will admit that Mr Rogers is a very good QB, but he is not wiht out his own faults.

Will the Real Thor Please Stand Up ... ?

by the Real Thor on Nov 2, 2009 8:01 AM CST up reply actions

So you are comparing 3 years of Rodgers being a backup to 3 years of Brett Favre being a starter, and based on those stats Favre is better? That is an awfully weak argument.

Come on now, you can’t expect a guy who does not practice with the first team to come in and perform as well as a QB who practices and plays exclusively with the first team. Their offense is very similar to ours, in that it relies on timing with the receivers.

by Bjorno on Nov 2, 2009 10:13 AM CST up reply actions

Look again

as I stated, the first 2 years both were starters, not both on the bench.

The best answer isn't on the poll

For now? Brett Favre. For now plus 5-10 years? Rodgers.

I don’t think Ted Thompson was wrong. He got a 1st round pick and got to start Rodgers for sending Favre to NY (and they really lost out by not having Favre around to mentor Sanchez this year, not the Packers so much). I do think that Teddy T or whomever drafted Rodgers made a poor decision at the time since they were in win-now mode. Yes, Favre was always waffling about coming back or retiring, but the Packers started that search a bit too early no matter how one cuts it.

The Chargers had a QB depth problem a few years ago, and they were probably right to do what they did.

Aaron Rodgers plays on a vastly inferior team than Favre both this year and last year. He’s not simply putting up meaningless pretty numbers because he’s a bad QB, but because he’s an excellent QB on a bad team. Historically, it’s very rare to find a QB who excels on such a team at all which tells me that we haven’t begun to see his ceiling yet. For some perspective, Joe Montana had worse numbers on a better Chiefs team and Drew Brees had worse numbers on a better Chargers team (2005), just to name 2. During a quick glance at passer rating leaders over the past 2-3 years, I saw no QB with a similar rating on a team which wasn’t at least 8-8 or better.

Rodgers fell into Packs lap at #22 or #23

They weren’t gonna take a QB, but there he was. Given what he has turned out to be, and that Favre was already talking retirement, you can’t blame Packers for accepting that gift that fell in their lap.

by puddnhead on Nov 1, 2009 11:13 PM CST up reply actions

need I remind you

Brett Favre played on that vastly inferior team for many years…in fact most of his career…as a fan I am so gratified that he is playing for the Vikings and not getting the crap kicked out of him as a Packer
Rodgers needs to get out (shame about that contract)

by lorenzo4 on Nov 1, 2009 9:46 PM CST reply actions

Just trying to figure out how two Superbowl teams are vastly inferior to what the Packers are now? Defiantly the other way around right now for sure

by VikesFaninNM on Nov 1, 2009 9:52 PM CST up reply actions

I think he may have meant the last decade

he did say “most of his career.” the packe in his early years were hardly loaded with talent either. IT was only that period that began with signing or Reggie White, Keith Jackson, etc that was really kick arse

by puddnhead on Nov 1, 2009 11:15 PM CST up reply actions

Yep…

Every single team that the Packers have ever built was inferior to the Vikings.

by Bjorno on Nov 2, 2009 10:15 AM CST up reply actions

It is amazing how my opinion has changed on this recently. I still love Rodgers as the Packers QB and feel good about our future. Having said that Farve is playing just amazing right now. He has not played this good since the mid 90s. (I still have every game of Green bay’s taped since ‘93-99). He is reading defences and exploiting their weakness. He seems to connect on almost every big 3rd down. The knock on him since the late 90s was that you lived and died with him. He made alot of crucial turnovers in playoff games. Infact since the ’98, i don’t think he won a playoff game excpet against Seattle. So coming into this year, I really did not ever forsee him being the difference maker he is and without the turnovers. It is an amazing story. So this year easily Farve……for the future I will roll with Rodgers. But I respect the hell out of teh way Farve is playing now ….

by Sequoia on Nov 1, 2009 10:23 PM CST reply actions

I think you guys are in good hands with Rodgers. I don’t think he will be a 1 or 2 year wonder then choke. As I said above, if he had the protection and perhaps a little better support in the running game, he would be down right scary. It seems as your D is starting to wake up compared to last years gaping hole D and hiring Capers was smart as hell.

"That is the craziest sonofabitch I ever saw, how many more like him do you think are up there?"

by VikesFaninNM on Nov 1, 2009 10:55 PM CST up reply actions

Rodgers is definitley not the problem with the Packers

IMO it’s something with the “brain trust.” Why for example they moved Kampman from a position he clearly thrived in, or have been trying to live “on the cheap” as the talent on the lines turns over, or signed a quarter-year wonder back to a huge multiyear contract, is beyond me. Kampman I think wonders too, but he is very disciplined and kept his mouth shut all summer.

by puddnhead on Nov 1, 2009 11:19 PM CST up reply actions

I agree…. people are down on Capers… but heck if Favre doesn’t make perfect throws (which most QBs don’t make)…they stop some of those drives. I’m happy with Capers….but I think we just aren’t on the Vikings level this year. No shame in that. It was a great game to watch.

by Sequoia on Nov 1, 2009 11:05 PM CST reply actions

I’ve always like Capers, very smart with the D’s. There is always the cardiac moments when we play each other or we play Chi-town. Never going to change. Well, unless the Lions ever decide to get in on the action, then I may need a transplant by then.

"That is the craziest sonofabitch I ever saw, how many more like him do you think are up there?"

Anyone who says Favre is looney.

Don’t get me wrong, Favre is a great QB. But in two years tops we are going to be without the Silver Fox and Green Bay will still have a good ten years of Rodgers at their disposal.

Besides, Rodgers is a great QB. I think ANY team in the league would be happy to have him under center.

Let’s not let our Favre bromance get in the way of reality. We are going to be right back where we were last year in the next two years.

by Bjorno on Nov 2, 2009 10:01 AM CST reply actions

Yep

While he is doing great for us now, this was the main arguement why I was leary of him being signed, one to two years at best. But one thing I have come to like is the fact that I see Sage soaking up as much info and tips as he can AND seem’s to be sharing thoughts as well when I see a shot of Favre on the sidelines. So far, I havent seen much of T.J. in those shots. So that is making me wonder how serious T.J. is wanting to be a starter or if he is P.O.’d and will demand a trade or release. Then agian, could be as simple as Sage being in the camera view at the right time.

As stated in many other fanposts, the 3rd string QB is essentially the secretary for the starter

He is responsible for getting the sideline polaroids and relaying information from upstairs to the starter. That is why you see him next to Favre more than Tjack.

Tjack has to follow the playcalling through the headset and keep his mind on the gameplan. You will see him near Favre occasionally, but he has other responsibilities that he has to tend to.

by Bjorno on Nov 2, 2009 1:44 PM CST up reply actions

Or sooner

I find myself being dragged onto the Favrewagon, bit by bit, but I know it’s just a short-term solution. I do think it’s worthwhile to see if he’s interested in being a QB-Coach for a few years, when he’s done getting beat up on the field. His experience is invaluable.

Hate to say itq

But I think A Rod would have us in the same place right now. Look at the craptastic team he’s on right now. If hey had the Vikes O-Line, their receivers (well GB has good receivers) and AD I think he would be winning games like Drew Brees. Add to that our Defense and I think you would have a super bowl bound team.

I respect Favre for what he has done for this organization, but I’m not so blown up on the man that I don’t think someone else with equal talent (albiet less experience) couldn’t do it just as well. Plus we’d have him dor another eight years where the Pack will probably only keep him alive for another 2…
