Great story from the Star Tribune about Vikings Free Safety Madieu Williams giving TWO MILLION DOLLARS to his alma mater, the University of Maryland. The money will go towards health care research. Williams didn't want any attention for his incredibly generous gift, but I'm afraid I have to give credit where it's due. Kudos to Mr. Williams for reminding us that many athletes do great things with their wealth.

Very good news. How much does he make in a season?

$8,705,000 (per FOX Sports)

He donated almost a quarter of his salary. A lot more than that if you figure what the federal and state tax men take from him.

It may take a village to raise a child, but it takes a Viking to raze a village.

Ouch!

Man, now I really want to like him as a player, but you’re right, he’s not an $8.7mil Safety.

I guess I’ll just have to settle for respecting him as a man and hope his play improves.

That has to feel good to know you can contribute that much to help a lot of people. If we had to over-pay any one player I’m happy it was this one.

A good coach makes his team better, he doesn’t wait for a better team to make him look good.

High Five

Sometimes it isnt about the play ability, just the character

This makes me feel good.

Its cool that it went towards health care research and not just football facilities.

This is let's see....

Hmmmmm….this is $1.995 million dollars more than what I have given the UM over the years (UM is also one of my alma maters)….I guess each to his ability…..

Definitely think is a good gesture on his part….After all you can’t take all that money with you (much for him, a little for me!)…How many “things” can a man have in his life?

On a grander scale here and just as important, I am seeing the seachange in what the Vikings have strived to build since the Love Boat debacle….

Even more than the money/contribution mentioned here, it makes me proud that the Vikings are, in a manner of speaking, “the face of MN” and a presenting good one….Something that had been lacking….

How many more days until Viking football again? Tick tick tick… : )

I would rather be IN the Arena than watching from the stands...That is my life!
