When I looked at these maps the other day, Minnesota and Detroit were hardly anywhere on the map and being California Vikings Fan, I was a little pissed that until yesterday they didn't even have a SET game scheduled. But when I clicked on this site this morning I said two words: "Fuck Yeah". Shows how many people want to see the Vikings! ! SKOL!

You’re right. I checked the maps out a few days ago as well, and I’d say we had about 6-7 states of coverage. Now its 3-4 times that.

Sorry but,

That doesn’t really explain it’s catchiness though, does it. I think we can agree on this, SKOL VIKINGS!!!

"Everyman's" Team

One of the attractions of the Vikings, as indicated by the coverage planned for the game, IMO is that we, more than many teams out there, represent the “everyman” or regular person that wants to see a team gel and accomplish their ultimate goal….

Even more so than the earlier version Cowboys (and much more palatable LOL hehe) the Vikings are a group of high achievers that are attempting to do what has not been done to date by a team lineup of that name….garner a SB W….many are rooting for this, if not the pundits….

The overall positive image that is perpetrated by the sea change in mind set/actions of the owners/coach/team since the love boat skandel means that we can move into that role and fans throughout USA can relate/associate….I understand hehe….

Glad to see that so many have come around to where I have been for years LOL!

SKOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!

NOTE1: Am I reading too much into this? No matter, I will enjoy anyway!

NOTE 2: Seems that Mr. Tarkenton is getting a bit more nervous….a bit of “Peanut Envy” (similar to penus envy as defined by Freud and peanut as in gallery)…based on his latest rantings/comments….Second instance….whew….

I would rather be IN the Arena than watching from the stands...That is my life!

Wondering what you're seeing over there

What do you disagree with in Tark’s “rant”?

Thinking....

That he has lost more relevancy regarding his second round of tenuous “getting it done” comments….the prior comments being those regarding Favre unretiring and coming to the Vikes….

Why? I personally watched him NOT get it done three times in SBs…Seems kind of ironic that he now portrays himself as something otherworldly when it comes to a QB getting it done?

I am glad that he did get it done most of the time for the Vikings, and I loved watching him….but there were times when he too did not grab himself by the balls and do it either…and there WERE games other than those we lost as well…shit happens!

I was there (watching anyway)….That is why I say this….

Bottom line: Another way of stating this in simpler terms: People in glass houses should be careful throwing stones….they could break the house or minimally discover they really threw a boomerang as it hits them square in the forehead?

SKOL!

Because of what he said weeks ago about not liking it when an icon who’s played most of his career for one team, goes to that team’s arch-rival in the twilight of his career, you now think he has no right to talk about anything. Good thing we don’t hold anyone else to that standard, or a LOT of the best posters on the DN would be made to feel unwelcome because they weren’t exactly comfortable with Favre turning coat either.

That was weeks ago, this is now, and he wasn’t talking about Favre at all. He was asked about Cutler, and responded. That pesky opinion and right to speak thing.

On “getting it done”, you’re going to lay the blame on one man, for the entire team not winning those Super Bowls. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. I happened to have watched those three Super Bowls as the games were happening, and I watched the ‘Missing Rings’ recaps this past summer as to remember those times, and one thing was inescapable; there were a lot of failures there and they were spread pretty evenly across the entire team. If you want to call it, “not getting done” because the team didn’t win a Super Bowl, then to be fair it would apply to EVERY Minnesota Vikings squad since 1961, since none of them have won a Super Bowl.

Oh. Yeah. That applies to Favre as well. The year isn’t over and I personally have my hopes, as I do every year, but he hasn’t “got it done” yet either, by your definition.

He “got it done” year after year, just getting to the Super Bowl was an achievement and NFC Champion is nothing ot sneer at. “Otherworldly”? Man, I don’t know where you got that from, but you might want to read what was actually said, one more time. Or maybe it just seems “otherworldly” to you…

I don’t recall Tarkenton saying that a QB has to take a team to the Super Bowl, let alone, win that Super Bowl, in order to be a great QB. That’s your definition, bud, not his. The only glass broken in the House of Tarkenton is from the rocks thrown by Viking fans at their ONLY Hall of Fame Quarterback.

That is your opinion

and you are entitled to it…As isTarkenton obviously….and me too….

I can appreciate your defending Tark….Your wholehearted support for him is along the lines of R4F’s support for Favre…it’s all good…

Having a HOF QB does not mean for me blinding adoration for everything he does or says….THAT is otherworldly lol….

End of subject for me with you…..

Enjoy your night!

NOTE: Hope you can sleep some, you seem quite upset….

Yes, it's my opinion

BUT IT IS NOT THE SAME AS R4F’S DEVOTION TO FAVRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY ARE NOT EVEN REMOTELY THE SAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Get some perspective, there’s a significant difference between blind fanaticism and a rational argument. The latter is what I’m typing about. Tark wasn’t perfect, he had good days and bad days, but the records he set speak for themselves. His opinion of Favre is an opinion that was shared by at least half of the Vikings fans this summer, before the wins started rolling in.

Amazing how fast folks hop on the bus when everything’s sunshine and lollipops, it makes it easy to throw the heros of the past underneath and roll on.

I’m not upset. Disappointed maybe, but that’s what false expectations always result in.

my beef...

Is that Tark was SILENT on the Vikings, it’s QB, and everything for YEARS…
Now that he is hawking a book… He is the ‘go to’ guy on all things QB? C’mon Man…

I BELIEVE...

by ArizonaVikingsFan on Nov 16, 2009 10:19 AM CST up reply actions

The 'Go To' Guy

You should know better, AzVike… I know you saw what happened with Favre; it wasn’t Favre that ran to the media every time his arm felt twitchy, it was the media that ran to him. Asking him, over and over again, creating hype and stories out of very little.

Do you think that Tark is calling up the media and calling them out to his place, "Hey boys, I got a statement for you, come hear it!! If he was silent before, it’s because the media didn’t go looking for a statement from him. If he’s talking now, it’s because they’re present to take it down and feed it to you. As for his book… bah. Everyone and their grandmother “has a book” these days, and they’re all self-promoting. They don’t get to self-promote if the media doesn’t want to hear what they have to say.

Personally, I think Tark should have been the ‘Go To’ guy on all things QB, for many years. One of the guys that the sports writers in Minnesota should have been going to for opinion and analysis, along with quite a few other top notch Vikings players through the years. Not because I like him personally, but because his record shows that he’s earned that position. Him, and top QBs like him, are the real experts in their field, and we only have 1 HoF Viking QB.

I agree that Tark should have been the 'go to guy'...

On QBs, and would have especially loved hearing from him on the Vikings over the last 30 years!

You don’t really think that no one tried getting him to talk on the Vikes, QBs, or the NFL for the last 30 years, do you? C’mon man… he wasn’t talking… now that he’s ‘hawking’… he squawking.

Loved to watch him play! Missed him for 30+ years… now I just find his commentary ‘meh’.

I BELIEVE...

by ArizonaVikingsFan on Nov 18, 2009 5:04 PM CST up reply actions

What I believe is that the media controls whether or not we hear from a given individual. If they don’t decide to heat things up with a particular personality, it doesn’t happen.

Tark isn’t the only ex-Viking that should have been consulted, often, for insight in the Twin Cities when it comes to football. Wouldn’t a defensive roundtable made up of Eller, Page, Marshall, and Larson, have been super cool? There’s no reason to wait for guys to be wrapped up by ESPN before listening to what they have to say.

Virginia Showing Vikings

I was telling my wife the other day that I’ve never seen my area show this many Vikings games in the 40 years I’ve been following the team, even during their 70’s glory days. There was a game against the Rams in 1973 that bumped the Redskins because both teams were undefeated (BTW, the Vikings won, 10-9). Of course it helps that the MNF game against Green Bay was the highest rated cable sports telecast ever. Guess it goes to show that despite the negative comments by the so-called “media experts”, people can’t get enough of the Favre story plus the fact that they get the chance to watch a quality football team instead of being force-fed the Deadskins week after week.

Where in Virginia?

I’m in the DC area, Woodbridge, and the ONLY NFL game I’m seeing on Comcast is the Redskins game. I’d rather watch CFL than that, which thankfully, is also on.
