play calling schmay calling. how about those decisions yesterday!?

it's always about execution, turnovers and penalties. period.

this year, last year, all our losses, we had more turnovers and costly penalties.

people wanted us to blow the lions out.. shame we had 2 turnovers in the red zone. I know people yesterday were mad about the bob schnelcker "give up" draw play on third down that ame up short 2 yards.. we settled for a field goal.

people last year moaned about our lack of a hurry up offense or 5 WR set etc. our clock management. they said then and say now how sucky CHILLY is and back it up with a few examples. i have agreed with 95% of chilly's clock decisions, red flag challenges, onside kicks etc.   i never get mad when a play doesnt work, because A i dont know who called it, if it was an audible... and usually it doesnt work because of a missed block, dropped pass, bad throw etc.  I am also not allergic to punting like a lot of the under 30 yr old crowd seems to be and i hate fantasy football and betting on lines so i dont have dumb alternate agendas ruining my game. all i care about is winning and there is nothing wrong with punting!

so i want everyone's take on yesterdays goings on, NOT chilldress and co but the coaching decisions in jacksonville and new england!!

go for it on 4th and 2 on your own 28 with no TOs?  why didnt he have time outs? i've never sen chilly put himself in a situaiton like that! last year even though we got into fg range and converted every time we had to in first and 2nd half endings people still bitched! (i say it's ballsy what NE did..why not... but if it was CHILLDRESS and not Bellichick people would be soooooo mad)

tell your RB to take a knee on the one, then run more plays, drain the clock and kick a fg instead of taking the TD and being up 6 with a minute left?  (i disagree)

OKOK how about chilly goes for it on fourth and 1. we all wanted too. but he gives it to dugan instead of AP. he didnt get the first. i bet all the chilly haters got mad at that no? why not give it to AP etc? well i will let someone else explain why a quick hitting FB play might work better, or even a QB sneak.. and how the LBs are all aiming for AP on the play. our center just got blown up, he Fd up!

in other news i always bitched "why dont we ever lateral or pitch the ball" hahaha way to go AP now we never will again!  =/     they do in rugby 75 times a game and never drop it.. i wish we could be more flexible in that regard.. run options, pitch outs.. etc

not really worried

If there was a game to make mistakes and bad playcalls it was this one. We can elarn from it and use it when we play good teams. The game would have been out of hand if not for the two fumbles by AP.

The Jags move was a good one. Why give the team another chance if you don’t have to? The odds of missing a FG or block from that range are very small.

Bellicheck will get critisized for going for it on 4th down for a long time. That made no sense to anyone. Im pretty sure people are mad at BB for being so arrogant.

Not sure about Jones Drew move

Your right a field goal from that range is basically an extra point try. Man if you bobble the snap you will never win that one down though. I take the touchdown. That would have put them up five. Go for the 2 point try. It takes a TD to beat you or if you make it now all then can do is tie or have the guts to go for 2 themselves. That is if they could have even gotten a T.D.

Gutsy Calls

Got no problem with Chilly going for it on 4th down. Hey it didn’t work thats the gamble you take. We held them to 3 & out & got the ball right back. I sometimes think we shouldn’t make it so oblivous that it looks like run. I know it a mano on mano thing but when your on the goal line the defense usually sells out & hopes that they guess right. Line up a few receivers wide get people away from the bunch. Spread the defense out. If your going to hand it off create a little space. A crease even a small one is easier to pick up a yard or 2 than running into a mass of humanity. As for the Patriots they went for the win. I thought they should have run on 3rd & 2 & then decide on 4th down. They passed twice which I didn’t agree with but hey they didn’t want to give Manning the ball back.
Would you want to give Favre the ball back with the game on the line and enough time to mount a drive or get a 1st down & run out the clock. They were trying to win the game with their offense instead of their defense.

You bet I would be mad. And a lot of people are mad at Belichick today for calling it. The difference between the two is that Belichick has earned the right to outsmart himself from time to time. That’s a big part of why it’s such a popular story right now. It’s extremely unlike Belichick, and his team, to make those kinds of mistakes—particularly burning those two timeouts. It’s a rare thing for people to be second guessing Belichick after a game, unless it’s about running up the score.

If it was a bad idea why were the Jets players under orders NOT to tackle him. When the opposing team wants you to get in the end zone that’s probably a good enough reason not to go in.

Yes, our center got blown up! Our first year starting center against their best and biggest defensive lineman. I have an idea, let’s send our third best running back into our weakest spot and our opponents strength… FTW!

If you heard the broadcast the announcer called it before the ball was snapped. The worst play that could be called was the play that was called. The funny thing is, I think that’s the 3rd time this year I remember an announcer saying what the Vikes shouldn’t do, before the snap, than we do it and fail to convert.

The announcers were also talking about all the weapons the Vikings have and contrasting that with the fact the the Lions have ONE weapon in Calvin Johnson. This team is so stacked with talent it should be able to out execute any other team out there man-for-man as long as the coaches don’t put them too far out of position.

Which means all we need is for Brad Childress to be the Trent Dilfer of head coaches. Just manage the game and don’t lose it for us. Dress up like a stewardess occasionally, maybe a french maid now and then (would asking him to dress like Catwoman be too much?…. mmmmm… mmmeeeoowww..).

What was I talking about again?….
.

A good coach makes his team better, he doesn’t wait for a better team to make him look good.

lol, i agree.... wow....

I piss people off on a fairly regular basis. I cherish my right to speak my mind, whether I sound like an uneducated savage or not. I've never been accused of keeping what I think a secret, nor will I ever. Don't like it? I don't care.

No Chilly Catwoman for me.

I agree with just about everything else.

The FB run up the middle wasn’t the worst call in the world (but a bad one for the reasons you outlined), but why Dugan? Surely Kleinsasser or Tahi or Albert Young or someone else would have had more running power, even if a bit slower.

I was glad to see most or all of the crazy plays, but a bit dismayed that they called so many vs. the Lions, a very beatable team anyway. I’d have preferred to have pulled those out when the advantage of surprise was really needed.

4th and 2, own 28

I dont care who is the coach…That was stupid…

I almost understand the call

in that situation, and, by the way, Kevin Faulk may have actually made it only to have a bad spot ruin it, so it’s about a 7.1 on my Richter scale of stupid calls. (Skip Bayless only called it a 3!) I think ego and arrogance also had a lot to do with it.

it was a great call

it was the right call to make. it had nothing to do with having faith in defense or whatever. given that same situation 100 times, he makes the same call 100 times because it was right.

had the players executed the play it would have been a first down. one little bobble by the receiver cost them.

MauJo

Great call on that one! Unless a kicker can’t be counted on for something less than an extra point, then it’s always the right move.

hmmm

Well if that’s the case, then the jest suck. I can understand the concept, but you gotta try. maybe get a fumble.. a sack. force a long third and goal, incomplete pass. you dont let a team score. ( even if it’s 1st and goal on the half inch line)

maybe im old school idk. anyways… i think of romo blowing it for the cowboys on that FG in the playoffs. i WISH the JAGS would have missed it.. =p

as far as our 3rd and short or 4th and short, i wouldnt mind some kind of wildcat or t jack option or something where we stretch it out and can wither run or pass for it or scramble. instead of cloud of dust. or even some dude like McKinnie literally just jumping into the air an forward for the first down (if we ned a foot or two) why not?
