Reviving the Chris Johnson/AD Debate

Good news everyone, Trent Dilfer agrees with us!

http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=4661640

He says many of the same things you all said earlier such as how AD is better in the red zone.  I don't really know how much Trent Dilfer's opinion means to anyone here...but I guess it's good that he can make the obvious choice of AD over CJ!  So, does Trent Dilfer gain any more respect points from you guys after saying this?

Chris Johnson is more versatile

but that’s it. Peterson has him beat in every other category

doesn't matter...

We are barely using him right now. He will be fresh when the time is right!

There has never been anyone like Peterson. Maybe never will be again.

This is a debate? AD is clearly better than Johnson.

i think this is starting to become a debate considering ESPN and SI have both either had an article or video about the topic

Trent is a Dilfer

I cant forgive him for picking the bears to win the division last year with 4 games left in the season when the Vikes were already up 2 games . Guy is a chode.

Best 5 RBs in NFL (fantasy points aside)
1. Peterson
2. DeAngelo Williams
3. S. Jax
4. MoJo
5. Chris Johnson (not even good enough for a nickname?)

CJ vs AP

Ok, I love AP as much as the next guy. I think he is easily the second best RB in the league right now. But number one has to be Chris Johnson.

How many times this year has AP done this:
26 Rush, 132 yds 2 TDs
9 Rec, 100 yds

Or this:
16 Rush, 197 yds 2 TDs
9 Rec, 87 yds, 1 TD

Or how bout this:
24 Rush, 228 yds 2 TDs

And thats just this year.
I’m not hating on AP, but the best he could manage this year is. :
25 Rush, 180 yds 3 TDs
And not only was that by far his best game, it was against probably the worst team in the league.

AP may be a more powerful back. I’ll give him that. And he might score more TDs. But as far as dominating games, CJ has him by a couple hairs. And on a worse team, no less.

I'll definitely agree that CJ is...

“on a worse team, no less”. And that is primarily why he is generating the kind of numbers that he is generating this year…because the Titan’s have no other weapons. Remember last year when AP was accomplishing similar numbers…we didn’t have the passing attack that we have this year. But now that we have a more balanced offense we don’t have to lean on AP all day (sorry…I couldn’t resist that one). AP doesn’t even have to play the whole game any longer…I’m sure that the Titan’s aren’t sitting CJ half way through the fourth quarter in any of their games.

Sure AP isn’t putting up quite the same numbers as last year, but we are winning games while he isn’t being overworked…and I definitely prefer it that way.

Plus

he doesn’t have a back-up like Chester Taylor
LenDale White? give me a break

Wow, you haven’t seen Taylor’s numbers lately, have you.

137 yrds on a 2.7 yards/carry average.

Not good. I think he may have just hit the wall. And though not tremendously better, White’s numbers are slightly more impressive.

204 yrds on a 3.5 yards/carry average.

"on a worse team, no less". And that is primarily why he is generating the kind of numbers that he is generating this year

Bad teams are often behind in games. This usually forces them to relenquish the running game. The first player’s stats to suffer on a bad team are the RBs due to the forced abandonment of running the ball.

The same is true for the opposite. Good teams often are in the lead and thus pound the football attempting to burn clock.

Despite his limited carries, Johnson has still managed to explode whenever he does touch the ball. Same goes for Maurice Jones-Drew. This year I can’t say the same thing about AP. I hate ripping him like this, but something seems missing in him this year. He just isn’t as explosive and dangerous. Still damn good, mind you. Just not as good.

No offense but are you really a Viking fan????

There is NO way in……….. (grits teeth) heck……. that Chris Johnson is better than Adrian Peterson.

Yes you are right that when a team is up they run the ball, but when we have the ball with 6 minutes to go and up by 17 who’s out there?? Nope not PHz he’s busy B.S-ing with Favre and friends, its Chester out there getting the rock.

You also say that when a team is down they resort to passing, well from the boxscore against the pats they ran the ball morebecause they were down. They were down by 59! When your team sucks you give it to your playmaker not guys who cant make plays.

Johnson is a homerun hitter, a guy like Carlos Pena. Yea he’s gonna get a lot of Homeruns but take out the homeruns and what’s his average look like?

Meanwhile PHz is a workhorse, a guy that can go the distance any play but still gets 4-5 yds every carry.

Regardless there is no way that Jonhson is better than Peterson.

So uhhh who are the experts comparing Johnson too???? Ok then

And meanwhile PHz’s getting compared to: Dickerson, Payton, Sanders, Brown. 4 of the GREATEST Backs EVER!

Also being the best RunningBack isnt about who is the best fantasy back. It’s who you want running the ball with 2 minutes to go and you need 25-30 yards, it’s the guy that will put the team on his back and carry you, it’s the guy who never get’s tired, the guy who is the first to get there and the last to leave, finall its the guy who has that “X Factor”

Purple Haze is the worlds greatest Natural Resource.
