Really like this
This is the best summation of the whole "Favre traitor saga" I've seen. Perspective from a Packer fan no less. Like the author, I hope they end up 'getting' this - because it will ultimately be their loss if they don't. Thought it worthy of a read. Enjoy - Shep
'Brett Favre handed Packer fans the only Super Bowl win they have ever had since Vince Lombardi. He is one of the greatest, if not the greatest football player to ever play the game. He is fearless, he plays hurt, he leaves it on the field every week, and he is a Green Bay Packer Legend in every sense of the word. If I remember correctly, Vince Lombardi left the Packers and served with the Redskins or somebody for a couple of seasons before he retired. Green Bay still adores Lombardi as does every real football fan. Brett Favre will be the same.
My fellow cheeseheads will ultimately look at the Jets and Vikings sagas as just footnotes to Packer lore and legend, even when Brett does lead the Vikes to the Super Bowl win they have always sought. They deserve it and so does he. Quit beating up on a football hero and just sit back and enjoy the drama and thrills he brings to the game. Can you imagine how boring it would be right now without him? Like it was for years after we lost Dale Eanrhardt until Tony Stewart became and owner this year. It will be a long long time before you see another Brett Favre so you better enjoy it while you can. They only happen every 30 years or so.'

Very Nice...................
Favre is the most exciting player to watch each and every weekend!
The Day he officially hangs it up, will be one of the saddest days in NFL History!
Brett Favre should be encouraged by each and every Viking Fan to continue to play football next year. If Favre feels the passion, I’m 100% sure he would continue to play the game he loves so much, especially with all the support his family gives him.
Long Live Brett Favre!

Very good analogy
And I think the majority of Packers fans feel the same. My impretion is it’s the more vocal minority who are wishing he burns in hell. I also see alot of Packers fans rooting for us if we make it to the Superbowl, just like I was when they were in there in ’96 and ’97. While most of us and them see each other as the “enemy”, I think we all are pulling for each other when it counts. That is part of a rivalry as well, when to be rivals, when to be friends.

Agree
Your statements are true IMO…
As a MId-Westerner who figuratively grew up wearing Purple, an expat who has been out of the mid-west area for an extended period of time, and having met/worked with people from literally all over the world, I can say that there is a mentality I like about the people in general from the Mid-West…
On a personal note I do get back as often as possible to visit, because frankly, I like it there for many reasons….Football being one…fishing and lakes, lifestyle, food and weather (somewhat) are others…From Canada down to Illinois, across to Kansas, MO etc. the people are of a mind I can understand and work with/enjoy having a friendly rivalry with/between for the most part…
Of course there are those fans that are, shall we say, over the top? Comes with the passion and depends on the person….I can live with some of that too….within reason…As much as I am and always will be a Vikings fan, and especially dislike the Green Bay Packers, or Chicago the same, I have to say if push comes to shove, say in a playoff where Vikings are already out of it, I am there watching if one of the teams from the mid-west is in it still…caveated by this:
* Unless there is some compelling reason I can not (i.e. they beat the Vikes, or Twins, or etc. prior to get where they are)
As long as the players/team that may be appearing is not TOO arrogant, etc. I will hope they beat whoever they are playing w exception as noted above…Why not….they are the MId-Westerners, the by-golly nicest darn people in the whole world! I have enjoyed cheese in WI [ : ) hehe ], Corn in Iowa, friends in ND, SD, Ontario, Manitoba, Ill, Ks, etc…
OK Lake Wobegon, here I come LOL….NOTE: Of all the areas in the mid-west, of course MN tops them…Why? The Viking and their fans/people of MN are just a little bit above average (OK a LOT this year in the Viking’s case), there are no unhappy women in the Norseland, and the sun shines always (OK some of the time anyway)…
Here’s to the great Mid west, the best place to grow up and live/fish/watch football (and ice hockey too)….May the Vikings go….all….the….way this year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SKOL!
I would rather be IN the Arena than watching from the stands...That is my life!

Thanks
Tho after reading some of the comments over at ACME, I did get a little discouraged. There were a few, and a couple of them were being “nice” here, that were hoping to see us have a collapse like 2003, another 41-0 blowout in the Championship game or go 15-1 again to lose again. Makes me wonder why the pure hatred in those few that were saying that. Which I think is sad of them since as I stated, I was rooting for them, the Bears and even our old Central member the Bucs in the Superbowl. But perhaps, they are so closed minded that can’t see anything else other then themselves. Oh well. I do know we have a few of those amongst ourselves too and that makes it just as sad I think.

Whenever the Vikes got eliminated from
the race I root for whoever’s left in the Black N Blue because it speaks well for our division,.

having lived in WI for 10 years
I lived in WI for a long time yes not far inland but in WI for a long time. Most people do not take this stuff that ‘over the top’ maybe 1 in 10 and those people on both sides rub the nose of the other team when they win and hit extreme lows when they loose. It is great to get excited for a team but stupid to do it at another expense. This is how some people come to work with a black eye on Monday morning after there team won or lost. This year looks like a time to just sit back and enjoy the ride. Will we win the SB? I don’t know, we may but there are so many things that can go wrong between now and then that it is not worth to much time now.
it is better to be thought of as dumb then to open your mouth and remove all doubt.
