Pro Quality. Fan Perspective.
Around SBN: Has Kentucky Improved Since the Non-Conference Season?

OMG! I could'nt believe my eyes!

I saw something so sad yet at the same time laughable.

Star-divide

I got my truck parked for the next 24 hours with good signal strength and took a little trip around some

SB nation team blogs.

One word comes to mind as I checked out Acme Packing Co.  SHOCK!

The first fanpost was from a day ago and at the bottom of the list of posts on the front page was one by

Robert Rence from 15 days ago!  Mind you this is on the front page.

Now, to give this some perspective, after the(Glory Days) there was a very long period of really bad Packer teams

but  everyone still talked positively of they're beloved pack. I live 60 miles south of GB and I am over 50 years old

so I witnessed this first hand.

Something is seriously wrong in Titletown.... this gives me mixed feelings

sadness that the blog of a team so rich in tradition has they're blog going silent.

yet having absorbed all the c**p that I have from Packer fans(my friends)over the years and not wavering

from my love of the Vikings, I find myself laughing inside....ok who am I kidding laughing out loud

but not shaking off that feeling of this being a really hard time for Packer fans especially the ones who

always showed some class.

A fanpost on DN might in a slow period hold front page 2 days but usually no more than one.

Be it good, bad or indifferent  we  have an awsome loyal following that continues to grow thru good times

and bad.

I cant find the exact quatrain but I am reasonably sure that Nostradamus fortold of this and it

probably read something like appreciate what is before you but always remember that

as rivals you provide each other the motivation and desire to go forth.

APC keep your chins up!

Go Vikes!

Wow

Just checked myself. Would make one wonder if there was a server issue, but then that would affect all of SB. I guess it’s resignation on the fans that this season is getting very close to being over. And not laughing at them. In their defense, even tho they are considered the enemy, it wasn’t all that long ago we were a mediocre team limping along after the Party boat scandal, trading egomaniac Moss, a QB who blew out his knee and a change over in ownership and coach. While I’m sure this blog wasn’t around then, I wonder how quiet we would have been here in the D.N.. Does show how things have changed in that neck of the woods the last few years.

Sure, there are those that would be over here sticking it too us, but I think it would be better of us to let them be for the rest of the season and not start anything or even contribute. There would be alot of fans appreciative of that. Sure, some will be jerks no matter how nice or mean you are, but why do it to the rest who are dreading even watching a game the rest of the season and wondering if next year will be worse. There has been enough bad blood between the teams and fans this year with the QB situation and some bad mouthing off from some of their members and some of our’s. I say bury the hatchet for the rest of the season and let them be.

"If you're gonna shoot, shoot, don't talk."
"That is the craziest sonofabitch I ever saw, how many more like him do you think are up there?"
"We have clearance Clearance. Roger Rodger, what's our vector Victor?"

10 FP posts in 15 days is about par for the SBN course

and their fanposts tend to be of higher quality if not quantity. I like APC, and i don’t see the reason to rip on blog for less content than this one currently enjoys. a year ago, when it was just gonzo, this place was a wasteland. but thankfully, it got better. a little bit spiteful for my tastes, but better.

I think you misunderstood

This was not ripping on APC as a matter of fact it was an expression of many things
shock , suprise, concern and even compassion.
I dont know where your from but I grew up surrounded by Packer fans and we live for our
friendly smack talk and let me tell you Packer fans can and do know how to talk.
that is why I was so shocked at how the blogging had slowed.
yes things are going well for the Vikes but even before the season with all our concerns
about Chilly, Tjax and our DB’s we used DN much like Packer fans used APC
to discuss they’re issues good, bad or indifferent.
The Bears & Lions with they’re team issues are actively blogging about them.
Every true fan lives for this time of year to go at it with our rivals and we would be lost
without our rivals win or lose it’s healthy it’s fun and somehow makes us friends.
I know Packer fans very well and this is not like them.
It is my hope to see activety pick up on they’re site as they are good fans.

i guess i just find trash talking with other fans not that fun

I just graduated from marquette university in milwaukee, and know many, many packers fans. I just find APC to be one of the higher quality football blogs on SBN (a lot of them are terrible, especially compared to their baseball and basketball brethren.)

I read APC often, because it is a well run site, and it seems to have a lot of content, 6 fanposts a day here notwithstanding. Also, ones like “no interest in nfl in la,” and as i look at it, pretty much all the fanposts are just links, which should be fanshots. i don’t really see any lack of chatter there.

I don’t like to gloat, it just isn’t fun for me. so sometimes i fight my own personal war against it. sports should be fun, and if trash talking is fun by all means do it. but i just don’t want this to turn in to ESPN.com boards.

I'm not into trash talking either

but I have to disagree with your quality assessment.

Well I understand the lower volume

I like their site as well. Very well written stories for the most part and it is always fun to view each other’s perspective on teams, etc.

As for the volume, the way I see it is that after the second Viking victory it severely slowed down. Think about it, they had probably two goals this season and the first was to beat Favre and that didn’t happen. It stole their heart this year and at their teams (witness the Tampa loss the week to follow).

There's little doubt that traffic peaked with the Vikings games, and hit its nadir after the Tampa loss.

If the wheels don’t come off, I think it’ll pick back up. This week is important for GB. If they win today and manage another against the Lions they’ll be right in the WC chase. The division’s over and there are always bandwagon types that jump ship when things go bad. Just like there are bandwagon types that jump on when you’re 8-1.

APC is clearly less established than this site is, for whatever reason. That was true even before Favre signed, and traffic here has picked up immensely since. But I’m not sure why one would measure fan loyalty or activity based on the traffic its SBN site gets. You can be a die-hard Packer (or Viking) fan and not frequent their SBN site. I for one lost my taste for the way APC is run a few weeks ago and I haven’t posted there since even though I still regularly visit the Brewer site and I stop by here from time to time. I can’t stand the Vikings, but there are people here I like and the writing is good.

What begins in fear usually ends in folly.

It will pick up

As the Packers now sit in a driver’s seat for a wildcard.

by PurpleJesus on Nov 23, 2009 10:32 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I thought so too last week, briefly, but ...

… losing Harris and Kampman for the year is probably gonna be devastating. Even if the packers make the playoffs now, it will be with targets painted on them.

by puddnhead on Nov 23, 2009 1:56 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

2 spots

If we say Giants win East, the fight for wildcard is ATL, PHIL, DALL and GB.

You may be right. That might be devastating.

A moment of silence for the APC

volume of fanposts

is affected by the lack of a regular catch-all front page place to chatter about the news of the day.

60 miles south?

Sheboygan???

Hmm, I lived about twice as close as you do ‘til three months ago, now I’m in southern WI.

Trust me on this, from someone who has watched it unfold, and lived it himself: this disintegration did not start 15 days ago, or week 7, or week 4. Most of the seeds of destruction here were planted in July 2008, and even before (it just wasn’t til July that the shoots broke through the surface). And the whole Favre signing has just been sunlight and fertilizer on that turf. You would not believe some of the arguments I heard & took part in a year ago.

All along the “schism” has been in the Packers, not the Vikings.

hey there puddnhead

just got the truck parked in Albert Lea Mn.
I’m from Fond du Lac and my brother hooked me up with a laptop about a year ago
so we could talk while I’m on the road.
I just became aware of the SBN blogs this season and I’m truly happy to be a part of DN.
I have some family in Monroe Wi. are you anywhere near there?
