He

its amazing
even the few throws he forces, the receivers seem to make the play

He is at the top of a short list.
Peyton Manning looks good but he is not having fun like Brett. Brett is like a kid in a candy store.

Manning
Until Peyton loses a game (which they may not in the regular season) I’m hard pressed to say that even with Favre’s career year that we have an MVP quarterback. Even though the stats back Brett, I’ve still got to give it to Peyton.

Not really
You guys must have missed Indy’s last 3 games. Peyton has been struggling and the Colts have won despite his INT’s. I’m not saying he stunk it up, but definitely not MVP worthy.
My vote goes to Favre.

Colts have pulled a few out lately
The Colts have had that lucky horseshoe working overtime lately. 6 inches short by the Pats and throwing over the middle when your already in field goal range by the Ravens.
The Colts could just as easy be 8-2. Favre’s rating speaks for itself. The fact that he is with a new team and their chemistry is learning on the fly should speak volumes for Favre. I heard a FOX panel expert talk about Manning adapting to a new coach and receivers saying what a great job he was doing. How about a guy who gets to training camp late and hasn’t thrown a single pass to anyone on his new team. Goes through a media blitz second to none in NFL history. Has just set a team record for completion percentage. Has a current 7-1 TD to int ratio. The season is far from over but at present time most of these guys have Manning. UNF#$%ING real.

Seriously? I think even Mannings and Brees are less than Brett right now…

Week 10
Who would have thought he’d also have more 40+ completions than Manning and Brees? Berman and Jackson pulled their head’s from Peyton’s butt long enough to call Manning the greatest QB of all time 2x tonight.
ESPN proceeded to treat the Vikes to about 3rd to last game reported, yet Dilfer calls them #3 power ranked. Their AFC bias makes my gag reflex work overtime. I firmly believe the Vikes will beat the Saints if they play. Their D won’t hold up to the onslaught, Vikes’ D will.

If Manning stays healthy, there isn't a record Favre holds that he won't eclipse before he's done.
Including the consecutive games streak.
Well, except for the INT record, of course. That will probably be Favre’s for a generation or more, mostly because very few players who throw that many picks are great enough to keep their jobs long enough to approach those totals.
I’m sorry, but Manning’s better than Favre. The only thing Favre has on Manning is longevity. For now.

I thought that too at the beginning of last year...
… when they surgically removed his infected bursa sack (no snickering) from his knee. I thought sure he’d miss a game after that, but it didn’t happen. Now I’m not so sure. He does a great job of backing out of traffic after many of his passes, which keeps him from getting caught up in the trash around his feet or smacking his hand on a helmet on his follow through. Those techniques are what has kept Favre on the field all these years. Well, that and his willingness/ability to play through pain.
All it takes is one wrong hit though, and he’s about 100 games behind, so who knows…

Manning hasn't reached the age yet
where he’s gonna slow down (slower than he already is – and he is slow). Who knows what can happen though hits, rotator cuff, the list goes on. I do not wish injury on anyone, ever.
I find it sad as I look at other blogs, people seem anxious for Favre to be outdone. Even people who watched Favre create the records while with their team. Noone has done more for the game of football than Favre – he is wildly popular, no matter what the haters say ( I’m not calling you one, Ted) , as his jerseys are perrenial #1 sellers. Noone is as much fun on a field, or lifts their team spirit up as much as Favre – things stats say nothing of. The Vikes are the prime example of this.
Manning (like Brady) has yet to have subpar teams around him, either. Count up the years Favre operated w/ much less around him. I hope Favre sees a SB win – he deserves it the way he’s led this team in his 1st year at the helm.
by jshep on Nov 23, 2009 4:50 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
It would probably be fair to call me a hater...
I don’t deny his popularity now or then. It’s always fun to watch a player have that much fun playing the game. I’m not rooting for him to get hurt or anything, but as a Packer fan, I wouldn’t mind seeing him fail. I respect him as a player but not so much as a person anymore. Doesn’t mean he’s a bad guy in most things. I really have no idea having never met him. I’ve said a few times elsewhere that when he’s done and he comes back to Lambeau for an alumni day, I won’t boo him, but I won’t cheer him either. I sort of hope he goes into the hall as a Viking. That probably puts me in the hater camp and I’m ok with that.
The stuff about the records isn’t really new though. Many Packer fans surmised a few years ago that P. Manning was likely to erase much of Favre’s work from the record books. I used to hope that he’d manage to keep the consecutive games streak, because I thought that out of all his records came the closest to defining him as a player. Given the events of the last couple of years I don’t really care anymore, and I’ll admit I won’t mind it when/if Manning overtakes Favre’s records. I probably won’t even notice, since if it happens it’ll happen a few years or more after Favre retires and I probably won’t be giving him much thought anymore.
As for the question of whether Favre played with more subpar teams than Manning, I’m not sure I agree, at least not completely. Manning had more offensive talent around him early on than Favre did (though it’s closer than many think, in my opinion). Green, at the peak of his powers, was still a notch below Edge, and Green didn’t stay at the top as long either. But Favre really only played on one bad team in GB, with a couple of other mediocre teams thrown in. And I don’t believe Indy has ever had the periodically very good (and for 2 years, great) defenses that Favre played with in GB. I’d take GB’s 2006-2007 WR corps over the group that Manning is throwing to right now.

Peyton is a statue
Its wonderful for him that he’s had great offensive lines, for now. Besides, Favre obviously affects your psyche.
by Salty on Nov 22, 2009 10:50 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah, he's not too mobile...
… though he’s smart in how he moves in the pocket. He’s had very good pass protecting OL’s for about a decade now. I’m not sure why that would change unless protecting their QB suddenly is no longer the priority for Indy when they’re drafting O-linemen. On second look at the numbers, it’s probably not too likely that he’ll catch Favre’s consecutive starts record. It’s possible, but Manning’s already 33 and will be 34 before next season. It’s possible that Manning will play and start until he’s 40, but statistically unlikely, and if he doesn’t, he probably doesn’t have enough time to catch him on the starts. As for the rest, it depends on how long Favre really plays. If Manning gets 4 years of career average numbers after Favre retires, he’ll top most of Favre’s numbers. But whether that will happen is up in the air, I guess. It’s certainly hard to imagine Favre not coming back for 2011 at least.
As for my psyche, you can thing what you like. I’d probably think the same thing if I were you. I loved watching Favre play when he was in GB, for the most part, but I was never one of the guys who thought he was the best QB of all time. With the exception of 95 and 96, I was never convinced he was the best QB in the league at the time. I preferred Steve Young early in Favre’s career and Peyton Manning later. So my position on Favre hasn’t really changed.
I will say that I did not expect the performance he’s put up in the first 10 games. I thought he was incapable of getting through a regular season with fewer than 10 picks or putting up a TD/INT ratio of 2/1 or better (let alone the 7/1 he’s got going right now). The season is breaking almost perfectly for the Vikes thus are, despite some inadvisable 40-50 attempt games in the first half. Games like today’s are important chances to minimize the throws and get him out of the game early, and the division race is over, so barring a to the wire fight for home field there will be chances to sit him down late in the year too, not to mention the fact that there’s virtually no chance he’ll have to play an important game in cold weather at all, or an important game outdoors before Miami, if you make it that far.
What begins in fear usually ends in folly.

I loved watching Favre play when he was in GB, for the most part, but I was never one of the guys who thought he was the best QB of all time.
I think the jury is still out on ‘best QB of all time’, lol.
Longevity has a lot to do with his numbers, and the INT record alone speaks to what his overall throwing ability actually is…. What makes him great, IMO, isn’t so much his arm as it is his leadership and ability to read/take advantage of the opposing D. He brings it all together and has fun at the same time.
I was never a Steve Young fan either; I appreciated Montana a lot more, despite Young’s better numbers in the end.
In any case, as time has gone on and I’ve had more time to focus on what BF brings to the table, I appreciate him a lot more, and have a better understanding of the loss the Packer fans have gone through. I’m not ready to slobber all over Favre’s sweaty jock strap though, which is just as well; I hate standing in long lines :)

Peyton is just 1 injury away and I mean to his linemen.
Look what happened when Saturday went down, he started getting sacked more often. People forget that Peyton has had the same OL’s his entire career give or take 1 or 2 people for 1 or 2 weeks here and there.
He benefited from their longevity and consistence.

Manning might end up being the best alltime.
Right now this season who should be MVP. 6 games to go so a lot can change. If this is a horse race Favre’s clearly in the lead. What drives me crazy is some of these so called experts have Manning & Brees ahead of Favre. Manning’s defense has just saved them from 2 straight losses. This bias isn’t going to stop. The only way to change this crap is for us to beat the Saints in the playoffs & the Colts in the Superbowl.

Was it worth it?
I’m on record as taking the position that the Favre acquisition is only worth it if we get to the Championship as a bare minimum, maybe even the SB.
We passed up other QB possibilities that could have lasted us longer, and worked well, for him. It has to be worth it.
But that being said…. Favre’s bought the fun and the love of the game back to the Minnesota. We so often acknowledge that football is a professional sport and the teams make decisions based on what’s best for business rather than what’s best for old fashioned values like loyalty… and then Favre comes along and shows us that, at least at the player level, they still share those old fashioned values with the fans. Maybe the front office is busy counting beans, but down on the gridiron and in the stands, leadership and loyalty and fun and gutsiness still count for something.
I think this was pretty important too.
