Best Clutch Quarterbacks

Saw this one, Forbes did a top 10 list for current QB's who do best in clutch situations. I would have to admit, looking over the list, I would pretty much have to agree. So here you go

1. Tom Brady

2. Ben Roethlisberger

3. Eli Manning

4. Peyton Manning

5. Philip Rivers

6. Donovan McNabb

7. Brett Favre

8. Carson Palmer

9. Drew Brees (tho not much of an issue this year)

10. Kurt Warner

At # 3 nonetheless.

One lucky play and he is clutch.

Yep

And I wonder if Forbes has any vested interest in the New York market.

Forbes should stick to money, instead of... money :)

Can't say I'd

have put Carson Palmer up there. No way above Warner. And swap Favre w/ Eli, move Big Ben down 1 to put Favre at #2. Brady is great, but Brady has always had really good teams around him. Like to see how clutch he’d be on some of the Pack teams Favre dealt with..

The list is too long

8 = top 25% if using current QBs only. Warner belongs in the top 8 since his Cards would have won a SB with just a dab of passing defense at the end.

I would have to seriously consider Flacco and Ryan (and maybe Sanchez) for excelling as rookies…a different kind of pressure, but still significant and a good sign.

I also like David Garrard a lot, and it will be interesting to see if that team turns around just by gutting their receiving corps. In the context of who has been on the other end of his passes, his numbers are out of this world.

Is there such thing as a clutch QB?

Suppose a defense always does its job: frequent shutouts, several games with fewer than 10 points allowed…you know, the kind you want for your fantasy team. QBs on teams like that would have to be terrible in order to find themselves in any clutch situations.

I think 3rd and 4th down completion% and rating, especially when it’s an obvious passing situation (say, 5+ yards to go), would tell a pretty good story about who is really a clutch QB if there is such a thing.

Bart Starr

How is Bart Starr not on the list?

by medicineball on Nov 4, 2009 12:52 PM CST reply actions

I think it's an active QB list...

Unless it’s an epidemic of retired GB QB’s coming out of retirement, I think we can leave good ol’ Bart Starr off this list…

Donovan McNabb ahead of Favre?

My biggest memory of McNabb is throwing up in the huddle during the Superbowl and blowing the 2 minute drill because he is too fat and out of shape.

What has Carson Palmer done to warrant making the list?

I’m not saying he’s a bad quarterback, but when you’ve never won a post season game, and most of your career has been spent rehabbing an injury of some sort, putting you on a list like this is kinda dubious.

Clutch?

Gawd I hate that word.

Peyton Manning is 4???? He is very low on this list. He should be AT LEAST 2.

I mean we’ve experienced a Manning comeback first-hand just last year. If I were doing this list he’d be No. 1. No QB has more comebacks since he arrived in the NFL and he has more 4rth quarter comebacks since 2006, than any other QB including Brady. (13) Brady gets too much credit in my opinion. I read a post on Bleacherreport that Manning has 38 Game-Winning Drives and in 28 of them his team trailed by at keast a field goal. The stats showed that Brady has 29 Game-Winning Drives but that 14 of them cmae when the game was tied and all Brady had to do was get into Field Goal range. That’s the case with all three of his game-winning drives in the Super Bowl.

He’s still one of the best clutch QBs of All-Time but I just think that, from watching he and Manning play, that Manning’s comebacksa have been more impressive. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Manning holds the NFL Record for most comeback wins when trailing by 10 or more points with 14.
