Troy Williamson Update

Former Viking Troy Williamson has three catches for thirty-four yards with the Jaguars, along with a fumble, for the entire season. He has not played since the third game of the season, and is not listed on the Jaguars' injury report.

I bring this up because I remember some talk this past August about how Williamson was catching everything that came his way in training camp. I also remember some Viking fans--not many, but some--blaming Brad Childress for Williamson's failure to fulfill his promise as a high draft pick.

I am not one to heap praise on Childress, but since Williamson has apparently been benched in Jacksonville after failing to catch much of anything, I think it is safe to say Childress did not mis-handle Williamson.

He was absolutely on fire during the pre-season and when it really counts, nothing. He had so much potential.

LOL

And like I said back in August, always great in practice and preseason, sucks when it comes to the real games. ANd anyone wonders why they are mediocre, losing the fan base and will be called the L.A. Jaguars long before the Vikings would be.

Yeah...

Not to suggest him being awesome or anything, but every player ruled out for the season no longer shows up on any injury reports…it would be redundant, no?

Same problem with the Vikings

There were lots of local stories about his extra offseason work and how he really focused on catches and was poised to make a breakthrough. It was just regular offseaon optimisim either.

In both cases, when the season started he just couldn’t put it together. It’s too bad, because apparently it’s not for lack of effort.

I would not

trust him to carry the water during the game on the sideline!

it is better to be thought of as dumb then to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

He couldn't catch in college either

The knock on him in the draft was that he was a project. Waste a great draft #1 pick on a project wide receiver . Bet that doesn’t happen to the Vikes again for awhile.

Just to make sure you do understand....

As LoveHate alluded to, Troy tore a labrum in his shoulder during the 2nd game of the year, so I’m not sure you can conclude anything about Childress’ coaching skills to anyone else (not that you should have anyway…I’m pretty sure the WR position coach has a lot mroe to do with player development than the head coach).

He wanted to fight Childress

He wants a boxing match with his ex-coach. Bizarre.

Meanwhile, Childress traded him and actually got a draft pick for him. Jaymar Johnson is doing great.

I wouldn't want to fight him...

After all, he’s got hands of stone. Those would hurt.

There are young men and women studying and working their way through college right now who will never sniff the money Williamson has collected for being a useless football player.

There are doctors and nurses who help people live through or even cure their diseases who don’t make anywhere near what Williamson has made to put on a football costume (which is what it amounts to in his case) and sit on the bench three months out of the year.

There are people who put their lives at risk to protect others whether in the military, the police force, or the CIA and FBI who don’t make anything close to what Williamson has made for being a seat-filler.

If this guy isn’t giving most of it to charity, he’s got to feel pretty rotten about himself.

Why?

Even as a sucky NFL player he’s still in like the top 10-20% of his proffession. That is, in comparison to all the other people trying to attain an NFL job. I think its crazy that we mock these athletes as if we (or even somebody we know) could do anywhere close to as good as they can. His “failure” should still in some ways be considered a moderate success. Better than the thousands of former college players who didn’t make it that high and are now flippin burgers.

I'm not surprised by this at all.

In his 3yrs as a Viking, Williamson had a total of 3-TD’s. NEVER in my life have I seen so many catch-able footballs bounce of a guys face-mask and jersey. Williamson is the worst WR I have ever seen play in the NFL.

Agreed

which is why I found it so funny that the upgraded his OVR in Madden, based on his preseason stats… Yeah, good use of time there.

NFL Network

ranked T.Williamson as the 2nd biggest draft bust in NFL history….lol. #1 was R.Leaf.

Whew

Well, at least we only got second there, unlike forever winning the worst trade in any sport of all time.

Injured reserve

Troy Williamson has been on the Jags’ injured reserve list since week 2 or 3, according to the Jags’ official site.
