how many hits
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_K1bxvTyvc&feature=related
How many of the hits by the Vikings of old are penalties today? This vid is not real clear but there are some great hits by the D both old and new. As Jim Marshal once said he made it a point to place the helmet square in the middle of the back of the QB when he sacked them. Now he would be fined, flagged and castrated for hits like that. I will admit the game is a faster now but I do not believe it is tougher. I certainly would not like to see more injuries but you have to hand it to the guys back then for taking the punishment.

Boy Ain't that the truth
Remember the head slap? Those guys beat the hell out of each other. Today’s game is faster & the player’s are bigger & stronger. Its sucks sometimes when they call every little thing but these guys have to be able to walk and think once their career is over. As long as both teams are playing by the same rules it will be fair. Its not touch football just yet.
Seem like it.
Is it football or baseball? It seems like QBs have strike zones now. If you run by them and yell boo it seems like you get a flag. Maybe its the d-lineman in me but if you are a QB and you run out of the pocket and gain yardage you become a running back.
That's why Marshall's Irionman record means much more than Favre's
Favre may hold the record for the most consecutive starts, but he’s not in the trenches the way Marshall was. Favre could have twice as many starts and it wouldn’t be as impressive as Jim Marshall.
Ah, ah,
We come from the land of the ice and snow,
From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.
The hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new lands,
To fight the horde, singing and crying: Valhalla, I am coming!
SKOL!
mick tinglehoff?
I am really sure I murdered that. He holds the record for most consecutive starts of an O lineman I believe it was like 15 years played through dislocations and everything and did not make the HOF that is a crime!
it is better to be thought of as dumb then to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

Quarterbacks
Are you saying quarterbacks don’t take big hits?
It’s not like their just standing there without getting hit.

that...
is rediculous. Two completely different kinds of contact. Linemen most often take their hits from a one step start. QBs often take theirs hits from a guy going full tilt. Besides, it’s obvious you hated him for years and don’t consider BF a full fledged Viking. Favre’s a greater player than Marshall in football history – you’d only need ask current/ former players and historians to get a resounding vote for Favre. But that is comparing offense against defense, which, like contact – is another case of apples and oranges.
yes you want to protect the players
but there’s a lot of whiny bitches in the nfl today. it’s a violent game. don’t like it, don’t play it. how many guys from the 70’s would have missed a game over turf toe? and they did it for what? $500 a game? i never heard of turf toe back then.
