And the Old Randy Moss......Come on Dooooown!!!!!
So, looks like the old Randy Moss has finally reared his ugly head in Boston. You know the one. The one who stops short on his routes, the one who turns to early or simply doesn't look like he really gives a crap. The infamous "I play when I want too" Randy Moss. The same one that after being shipped to Oakland got blasted for pretty much the same. Well, after that humbling experience, most thought, including myself, that he had been humbled enough and seemed to be past all those issue's. As late Waylon Jennings would sing.......WRONG........looks like the Randy of old has returned just like a bad case of acne. He got his butt sent back home this past week for being late and yesterdays game, was totally atrocious. The article will explain the rest. But in all honesty, I was one of those that was happy to see him go when the Vikings traded him. While talented, he just seemed mentally unfocused or had some deeper issue's that still seem to be there.

Randy fragile mentally
Although I agree that he is mentally fragile, I think in this situation Coach BB gambled and lost. I believe he was hoping to send a message to his team to get them through this funk that they were in; but it backfired with Moss. :earlier in the week: Randy Moss and 4 others were sent home after arriving to work 9 minutes late due to inclimate weather.
I think being sent home from the meeting after he tried to get there hurt his psche. It’s not like he was hours late or this was a common occurence. It was 9 mins because of snow. I’m not making excuses for him because I agree he did shut down. Between Welker taking over as the #1 receiver and being sent home, it was just too much for him.
Bad Randy Returns
He’s too vital to the ultimate success of this team. That offense simply can’t function at an elite level without him.
Here’s the real problem. Randy believes stuff like this, that he’s irreplaceable. He was probably stunned when the Vikings trading him to Oakland for peanuts but obviously all of that has worn off.
The leopard doesn’t change it’s spots, it merely disappears into the landscape for a time.

Troy Williamson = "Peanuts"
“He was probably stunned when the Vikings trading him to Oakland for peanuts but obviously all of that has worn off.”
The Vikings traded Moss for a #7 overall pick and Napoleon Harris. Harris was a decent LB during his stint in Minnesota, so the argument that Moss was traded for “peanuts” isn’t literally true, since Harris’ performance pushed the total trade value gained for Randy Moss over the $.99 bag of stale peanuts that Williamson was worth.
Otherwise, I was done arguing about Moss when he was shipped to Oakland.

Peanuts
If you think that Nappy and a #7 pick was even remotely worth the value of a WR of Randy Moss’s ability, your judgment is seriously impaired.
Moss wasn’t traded to Oakland because the Vikings got a good deal, he was traded to Oakland as a severe punishment. The Vikings could have gotten a lot more for Moss but that clearly wasn’t as important as the punishment and making an abject example out of him for the rest of the team.

Randy Moss is great
When he wants to be. I don’t hate him, but better NE than MN.

+1
I just hate that we had to lose someone of his ability, but I agree; it needed to happen. Doesn’t mean I wish Moss well, either tho.

I wish Moss better days ahead...
but in NE he has never been the speed-demon that he was in MN. As he ages and loses that other 1/2 step (he lost 1/2 step in MN with that hamstring injury) he will lose value unless he can run precise possession type routes. He’s just not physical enough for that kind of game. Hard to imagine him having his heart into that prospect…
Moss is Moss
you get what you pay for. It’s a shame he doesn’t have a bit more character, but he is a ME player.
Getting the most of paying for Moss
Yeah, I can’t really understand why they made Welker the primary focus in the first place. Welker could have been helpful as the #2. Why gameplan into a certain trouble zone?
I first heard of this (this year)
during the radio broadcast of the Pats, Saints game. They suggested Moss was taking plays off then and even went so far as to blame him for an interception. They said he gave up on the route just as the ball was thrown. I didn’t witness this, I’m just saying that’s what “they” said.

Only because it could never be Brady or, Belichick’s offense that sucks. Genius Bill not having an OC is about the dumbest coaching move since Marty Morningwhig took the wind in OT. Except the Patriots won’t just lose one game they’ll be out of the playoffs this year.
BB’s Hubris is eating that team from the inside out. They only reason people put up with it was they used to be a winning franchise. Those days are rapidly coming to an end.
You could be right that...
it’s more about who’s fault it isn’t than who’s it is.

This is a great point. Some of the NFL Live guys talked about how the loss of McDaniels has hurt the Pats this year and the more I thought about it, the more I agreed. At first, I thought we were seeing a lot more running plays from the Pats, just because they wanted to balance things out a bit. But thinking about it now, I would say it’s pretty safe to say it’s because they no longer have an offensive genius in there at OC.
Moss still has the big play ability. I’ve seem him outrun double teams a few different times this year (which absolutely blows my mind), and it doesn’t seem like he has had as many opportunities this year as he did in 07’ and even in 08’ with Cassel.
I also don’t think Belicheck sending the guys home was a smart move. Maybe if there wasn’t a snow storm I would agree but living in MN I know and I’m sure all of you know how unpredictable traffic can be when it snows.

Persuade Favre to come back in 2010 and trade for Moss
I swear I’d be so happy I’d bungee jump off the arch.

Never.
Although Childress must have learned that he is not really allergic to 1st round WRs, there is no way that he would allow Moss on the team. Many fans do not want him back, either.
On the other hand, Childress has learned to submit to talented knowledgeable players like Favre, but I do not believe that he would do that with Moss around. T.O. played hard every down, signed a waiver in the event that he was further injured so that he could play in the SB, and turned in one of the great WR performances in SB history, and we all know how that ended.
I'm sure Chilly would never do it
But imagine Favre, Percy, AP, Sidney, and Randy Moss.
Oh…my…GOD

Eh
If it was Moss 10 years ago, oh hell yeah, just not the attitude issues.

More Moss, less Tahi (or Shank)
If that’s what you’re saying (a 3WR loneback or 3 WR I-formation set if Tahi is the key), then I’m all for it. Of course, we don’t have to deal with Moss’s personality issues, but we’re not paid millions of dollars per year to do that, either.
If I had to choose just 1 thing I don’t like about Childress, it’s his allergy to highly talented and productive players. If he learned anything from his psychology background, then he should be more able to deal with such players, but that has not been the case so far. Spending a 1st round pick on Harvin was a big step in the right direction, even though Chilly tried to find the smallest reason—as small as a single whiff of a reason—to pass on Harvin. I think the organization pushed hard for Harvin, and Chilly has learned that (so far) it is not as bad as he had imagined or gone through before with T.O. It will take years to see if he really changes in that respect, though.
Childresses allergy to highly talented and productive players?
Such as Jared Allen? Or BF? Possibly AP?
Or do you mean talented players that are possible team cancers. In which case i dont blame Chilly for wanting players that he knows he can count on when the going gets rough, instead of players that he has to treat differently because they feel they are above the team!

Good point.
Can I assume your name refers to the Magnificent Fender Stratocaster. I’ll show you mine if you show me yours. LOL.

sorry to disappoint you cryhavoc!
But the name refers to my Stratos boat and the magnificent Muskie. Although i do have a bro that has a stratocaster among his many others.
I must say tho that i can play a mean Mary had a little Lamb and it always sounds better on his strat!

Ahhh, Yes.
I too am quite fond of those things. I enjoy tossing logs with my “poodle pitcher” (a 6 1/2 ft Lamaglass with a C3 reel that will handle a 6 oz lure).

Let's see
Brett Favre, Adrian Peterson, Randy Moss, Bernard Berrian, Sidney Rice, Percy Harvin, and Visanthe Shiancoe. Maybe Chester Taylor is re-signed.
That is a juggernaut.

Hopefully
Thats a marriage we will never have to see. Or maybe they both can moon the crowd at Lambeau…….naw, rather not see Moss back.

I have to admit
I have always liked Randy Moss as well. It’s hard not to be amazed by him when looking at the things he was able to do. Physically and skill wise I don’t think there has ever been a WR in the history of the NFL. 6’ 4", 4.2 speed, and a 40"+ vertical…that’s amazing. I still remember when Cunningham was the Vikes Qb way back in the day with Moss. He complimented Moss so perfectly simply because he could throw the ball very long and very high, and that’s all Moss really needs.

They did have some great games together....
Very exciting football….
Thise were also the days when our annual faceoffs against GB were super exciting – hey kinda like right now!
Much more football to come…
Off topic Question for you Packallday: GB plays Vikes in the playoffs…Who wins? Can the Vikes take Rodger and co three times, or does GB get validation of their greatness/revenge for the two losses against the Vikes this season? What is your take?

Hmm
Well first off, sorry it took so long for me to get back to you. You guys have so many new fan posts a day that since this one wasn’t one the little side bar I forgot about it!
It’s tough for me to say. I don’t want to say we’ll win because your biggest strength exploits what is probably our second biggest weakness (o-line vs. d-line) but I think we would have a chance. The o-line has been better for us, but there is no denying Clifton has begun his decline. Obviously, that doesn’t bode well for us considering you guys have Jared Allen.
The other thing we struggled with against you guys both games, was our pass defense. I personally think we had this problem because we were getting NO pressure on Favre, and because Capers kept rushing 3-4 guys. Since week 6 he has been much more blitz happy, and for the most part this has worked out tremedously for us.
Because of our slight improvement in our o-line play and our big improvement on defense, I think we have a fairly good chance, and think regardless of who wins, the game will be very close. I don’t know how much I buy into the whole not being able to beat a team 3 times in one season. We’re division rivals, we know how each other plays, and did when we faced off both times earlier.
I also think Finley, who had a big game against you guys week 4, could be an X-factor. He was out for our second game, and missed a couple of other games on top of that one, but since returning he has been an absolute animal for us. I’m not sure who would cover him on your team, but I like his chances if it’s either Williams or Johnson, or one of your nickel guys like Sapp or Allen. He really has opened things up for everybody else, and our offense has been clicking with him.
I want to pick the Packers to win but I’m skeptical to do so because while our we have improved a ton in what were two of our weaker areas, the game would still be at the dome, which would hurt our o-lines play, and it’s still going to be hard to stop AP and Favre.

He had Carter and Reed as well
So he had a lot of help out there in the back field. Doubling Moss meant Chris Carter would eat you up and spit you out. Sending your best on Chris and doubling Moss meant you would have about 4 passing interference calls that game. It was truly one of the best Receiver tandems I have ever seen in my life, beating Fitzgerald and Boldwin easily.
Agree completely...
What a dangerous WR group that was…..
Too bad they never got their SB ring….close but no banana…
Still great football….lives on in my memories….
As all players you mention….

In more recent news....
Tom Brady, Bill Bellichick, and Patriots owner Robert Kraft have all come out publicly in support of Randy Moss.
The Patriots are playing the Bills this week. The Bills have a very good pass defense.
Moss might not have a huge game this week, but it does sound like Moss will be staying in New England. Bear in mind that Jerry Rice and other receivers were highly effective into their late 30s (and even past that). Moss probably has plenty of good years left, and could break many of Rice’s records eventually.
Fools
They’re trying to placate him, it’s a mistake… it’ll just feed his ego and attitude.
Their best bet would be to drop the hammer on him, use the ‘tough love’ approach. Otherwise he’ll turn into a cancer for NE, just like he was in Minnesota.

the tape shows that Moss did not take plays off
Merril Hoge and Ron Jaworski are the only two media people who have actually watched the coach’s tape of the game. They both say, unequivocally, that Moss did not take any play off in the whole game. The interception was a bad throw by Brady under duress.
Randy Moss is a great player. He is only 32 years old and is bound to own a lot of records when he’s done.
Crazy
That people even really questioned it in the first place. The guy has a bad game and everyone wants to jump on him and say he isn’t trying..
The play where Brady threw the pick was a horrible thing to base some these claims off of as Moss really had ZERO fault in the INT.
