Apology for Ocho Stinko Fanpost
I did not wish to offend anyone. I apologize for sounding mean about what I wrote.
No, I don't like Ochostinko. I get tired of his dumb comments and showboating. Picking fights with others on Twitter, claiming he is as good as an Olypic caliber swimmer, etc. gets a little stupid in my book.
What irked me is he took the Vikings Mascot and spoke about how he was going to "use" the horn. I feel he crossed the line. You don't insult the fans in putting on one of your shows. You might as well say I'm going to dig my cleats into the Vikes logo before the game. I love Minnesota and long to move back. I love the Vikings. Our name, if you don't know the history, was chosen to represent the Scandinavian heritage of our state. I am proud to be a native Minnesotan and will not take kindly to such antics directed toward the sensitivities of fans.
I applaud Ocho for having the sense not to pull some antic out of his hat while losing. But Chad, don't do something that shows disrespect to the fans who love that team. That is what he was proposing. Be funny but don't be insulting. You were getting ready to cross the line.
To answer another question: I did not post such a thing on their site. I am not a troller and do not go on other folks sites to insite trouble. I have sites listed as I have a fantasy league with other NFC North fans from those sites. I do not go there to make insults to their teams.
Again. I apologize if I hurt anyone or portrayed myself as hateful. I did like the hit tho-sorry.
This FanPost was created by a registered user of The Daily Norseman, and does not necessarily reflect the views of the staff of the site. However, since this is a community, that view is no less important.

I'm not quite sure I follow
How is saying he wants to blow the horn like trampling on a team logo with his cleats? It seems more playful than insulting to me. But that’s just me I guess (and, well, Ragnar … since he played along).
Tiger could get some pointers here...
Know not football related, but just saying……
New record: Fastest implosion of a world icon….
My prediction: He rises from the ashes like a phoenix and once again graces our screens and courses…
Hope so anyway….
My weak effort at a Tie in: Citrus, ain’t nobody perfect, and we all have said/done things that are misinterpreted/regretted…..
Note: Kinda like that nightmare AZ game the Vikes participated in from so long ago (2 weeks!)….
Bottom Line: Sh%t happens….You get up, collect your thoughts/self, and move on!
GO VIKINGS!
I would rather be IN the Arena than watching from the stands...That is my life!

OK
Well, that was not really an apology. When you say “I apologize if…..” that is pretty much a non-apologetic statement. But who is really counting anyway?
If it makes you happier
I apologize and regret the doing the post. The “but” was the reason I was upset and I took it too far, It is not my normal character.
I have conceeded my regret and as my mother once said. "f they can’t accept an apology when you knew you were wrong, it is their problem now.
I wrote and said what I thought was the right thing to do. Offending people is the main issue and I apologized for that. My words were wrong and I accept that.
Anyone that knows me here realizes I am not a “hateful” individual. I don’t hate Chad the person. He does nice things for people and from what I hear does contribute to charities. I want him to seen for that, being a little corny is OK. I had heard his statement was to take Ragnars horn and do something nasty. That’s all I am going to say.

I like how you phrased it "if it makes you happy"
A true apology is given without expectation of anything in return.
Frankly, I don’t think you have to apologize. I am just posting here to defend the meaning of the word “apology.”

I don't think he was even clsoe to insulting.
He is who he is, and I like it. Sure, he says some dumb things, but it’s all in good fun. He’s not out to harass or harm anyone. He didn’t score a TD, then run to the middle of the Vikings logo and spit on it or anything.

wrong
I’m sure his friends and family might know that… but don’t pretend you know someone when all you “know” is some posts that they’ve made in a forum.
I wouldn’t say I “know” Gonzo, ericj69, or Anthony21 even though I’ve read hundreds of their posts.
Had any one of those three people made that post, I wouldn’t have reacted any differently than I did with Citrus. I wouldn’t have thought, hey Gonzo doesn’t really mean any harm, and left it at that.
my apologies
i’ll check with you the next time to see if i know someone. thanks for clearing that up.

LOL- Thanks Eater
I am a passionate Minnesotan at heart. My wife know how basd I want to go back but she has work here. Being on disability retirement I tell her I want to go home, go to games, be with friends, fish and maybe hunt off a 4 wheeler. Before my body injuries just say- thats it. I would be that guy who lays in front of the moving truck if they ever try to move the Vikings out of Minn.
So yes. I am passionate and protective of the Vikings image.
But like everyone. I have my dumb ass moments.
Appreciated, though I agree with everyone else in that...
an apology was not necessary. The deletion of the post was really all that was necessary.
I’m a fan of Ochocinco. I have friends who are Bengals fans. I found the post highly offensive and I’m glad it was removed.
You have to give props to Ochocinco for that play...
When they show the slow motion replay, you can clearly see Ochocinco pulling that ball in with 1 hand. Very few players could have done that and had things turned out differently, that play probably would have made it in ESPNs top 10 plays of the week.

+1
That was going to be an insane catch. Griff broke it up, but at the cost of a penalty, and giving up the same yardage anyway. Great play OC, great play Griff.

Ocho Cinco on Twitter: "great hit by #23 Ced, that's football, love it!"
The full tweet from Chad Ocho Cinco seems to suggest that Griff hit OC’s facemask, and then the facemask hit OC’s nose.
My nose has gone down all the way, it was a bruise where the facemask hit it as it came off, great hit by #23 Ced, that’s football, love it!
http://twitter.com/OGOchoCinco/status/6663285231
That was a tremendous play by both players. Obviously, OC came away with the yardage for his offense through the penalty, but, to back up Cedric Griffin, that is how you want your defense to play.
Um, what's happening to our 1st amendment rights here
Without actually reading your original post (because it was deleted), and assuming you refrained from using things like racial slurs or cussing, I’m going to stand up for you here on precedent alone. Why on this site does someone have to apologize every time they post something that simply contradicts the majority’s opinion? If you really truly despise Ochocinco, what’s wrong with saying so? I think it’s safe to assume he doesn’t read this site. And even if he did, he’s a professional athlete, it comes with the territory. I’m really beginning to become concerned for the expressive integrity of this site.
Well
He deleted it on his own. It wasn’t censored.
FWIW, this site allows quite a range of expression. This has resulted in people being pretty friendly overall.

While that is excellent news to hear that it wasn’t censored (as you can tell, I fear censorship for where it can lead), I am now wondering why someone would delete their own posts? I hope it wasn’t out of peer pressure. Though a previous poster was right in that we can’t claim to truly know someone from posts, I can say I know Citrus to be an excellent addition to our site due to what I’ve read of his in the past. He’s even made some excellent challenges of myself, which I love. Just trying to stick up for the guy, thats all.
he took it down of his own free will because citrus is a really great person and doesn’t want to offend anyone in anyway (other than 85 that is!) and so when some expressed offense over the post, citrus, being the stand up person that he is, volutarily took it down.
citrus is a class act. and i’d vouch for him any day (even tho i like ocho’s antics!).

I'll tip my cup to that
Here’s to Citrus then, for being classy enough to admit to error. The true mark of a gentleman.
@Jayrome007
You do realize that this site is censored right? These forums are moderated and Gonzo and company do have the power to ban anyone they wish.
If someone were to come on this site and start posting random garbage, trash talking, commerical stuff, etc… their posting privilages would almost surely be removed.
First Amendment rights don’t even apply here. This is a private forum and the moderaters can run it any way that they wish.
Finally, it’s perfectly fine that Citrus doesn’t like Ochocinco. But his post wasn’t intended to start any sort of conversation or provide insight on why he didn’t like him. The post simply mocked Ochocinco for the hit Griffin put on him and then suggested we send “Ochostinko” pictures of him with a Viking horn up his butt.
It wasn’t in good taste and it was very disrespectful. Posts like that SHOULD be removed from this forum.
If you want unregulated free speech, head on over to one of the non-moderated forums such as the Vikings forum on Yahoo Sports. What ends up happening there is 9/10 posts are just garbage and there isn’t any sort of intelligent discussion.
censorship doesn't create a good forum
Quality people create a good forum.
by medicineball on Dec 16, 2009 4:11 PM CST up reply actions
Moderated forums make good forums IMO
You could send all the quality people from this site to the Yahoo forum, but it wouldn’t make that forum any better at all.
You need to have someone in charge that says what is acceptable and removes people that violate that rule.
Moderate in Moderation
That’s the motto of every good Moderator in every well-run forum I’ve ever seen since the late 1980s (FidoNet). Gonzo’s methods fit that old maxim pretty well, and I’ve never seen him remove anything unless it was egregiously against the forum guidelines (racist slurs or hatemongering), or was expressly designed to stir up trouble. Even then he’s tried to let us work it out for ourselves and just cleaned up the mess afterwards. Kudos for that.
In this last case, CitrusViking is a good guy and has been a very positive contributer to the DN for a while now. He was upset at Ochocinco for some reason, and that’s ok, we all get annoyed once in a while. Trying to rabblerouse us into a group spam was over the top, folks let him know that, and he reconsidered his position. The whole thing was handled amongst the user-ship, no need for moderation, and I think that’s a really good thing.

You really don’t know the difference between a blog and a nation-state? Oh, C’mon dude. Your overly negative attitude is getting the best of you now.

But his post wasn’t intended to start any sort of conversation or provide insight
more than half the fanposts on this site don’t meet this criteria
It wasn’t in good taste and it was very disrespectful.
who gets to decide this? you? what about those that disagree with your definition of bad taste or disrespect? i guess they just get disrespected.
and since when is bad taste an offense?
i understand your concern, honestly i do eastern, but these things are very arbitrary the free flow of opinions and dialogue is going to step on some toes. it’s a blog, have some salt handy while perusing, i do.

I'm sorry I don't like when people post offensive material on the blog...
and I wasn’t the only one who found his post in bad taste.
The reason many of us come here is because we don’t have to see that kind of stuff on forums like this.
i know where you’re coming from i promise. there are some posters on here i won’t even respond to because i find them so completely full of crap as to be offensive and i have no wish to interact with them even on a blog. so i keep my grains of salt handy and just move on.
if i debate someone on here it’s because i feel like they are worth debating and the issue is interesting.
if i don’t i read another post.

Good people are the ones that learn from their mistakes
It’s obivous that Citrus realized he offended some people and I commend him for realizing it and making amends. Not many people would do that.
All of us have probably offended someone or another at one point. I know I’m not without my faults.
Citrus is indeed a class act and I appericate his posts.
