Percy Harvin Still Out
As reported on ESPN and by the Star Tribune, Percy Harvin missed practice again today, with continuing migraines that Childress described as "debilitating": http://www.startribune.com/sports/vikings/blogs/79431547.html?elr=KArksUUUycaEacyU
Rather than worry about the possibilty that Harvin could miss this weekend's game, too, I am going to look ahead and assume Harvin's migraines are under control in time for the playoffs. (Migraines are notoriously difficult to treat; indeed, they often come and go for no apparent reason.) If Harvin misses another game, or three, but is back in time and healthy for the playoffs, he will have been given time to recover from the shoulder injuriy that has bothered him, as well as the run-of-the-mill aches and pains that come with football.
This is NOT to say Harvin's migraines are a blessing in disguise; everyone I know who has them describes them as agonizing. No doubt he would rather be playing every week with the normal aches and pains than suffering from migraines.
Before anyone else does it, I will point out the irony that many people claim medicinal marijauna is an effective treatment for migraines...

I deal with pretty severe migraines
and I’ve been coping with them on and off for nearly a decade now, so I can relate to Percy’s pain. On the negative side, they can be quite debilitating – leaving you nautious and unable to do much other than lie down in a cool dark area until the pain passes. On the positive – they can come and go without warning and be gone, just like that, in an instant. Here’s to hoping Harvin’s Headaches (maybe a name for my fantasy team next year) do just that and go away before he loses much more time.

I too suffer from migraines and it is a major annoyance. You’re feeling good one moment a few steps later…bam! the bright lights start bothering you and you’re searching for a cool dark place to relax and close your eyes.
I actually cut my migraines down about 35% by getting all my wisdom teeth removed. Not sure about PH but mine were impacted, since their removal they don’t come as frequently as they use to.

Tsk tsk
You’re going to offend the Gummy Bears with a comment like that! You need to learn to be more politically correct.
.
:)
Ah, ah,
We come from the land of the ice and snow,
From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.
The hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new lands,
To fight the horde, singing and crying: Valhalla, I am coming!
SKOL!
I often thought
that he had that in his system because of his migraines. I could completely see using that to help with the pain especially in college where it is so readily available.
I just hope...
like you said, that he is okay for the playoffs. I immediately thought that they could be a “blessing” as well because of the shoulder injury. I would hope that after almost two weeks of football he is feeling better physically… aside from the overly painful and debilitating head pains of course.
So get the guy
some medical pot. I suppose he would fail the piss test and be suspended even if a doc prescribed it.

controversial cure???
a)we all know percy has used marijuana in the past
b)he has stopped using since the nfl combine (reportedly)
c) his migraines are now worse than ever
d) there is anecdotal evidence that smoking marijuana can alleviate migraine severity
conclusion, ship percy to one of the 13 states that allow medicinal marijuana, and get the boy stoned, for vikes sake!!
It would take him out of play
I believe that if you are using a banned substance even with a doctors ok you cannot play in profesional sports (except baseball)
perhaps he should call onterrio
perhaps he should call onterrio and borrow his whizzinator?

Onterrio left the Whizzinator in a storage locker.
It was auctioned off to a Mankato, sports bar owner for $750.

"To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women."
It's just anecdotal evidence though, not scientific.
Percy: “I have a migraine headache. Can I get some medical marijuana?”
Cheech: “Yeah man, we all got headaches. We need some weed too, man! Hook us up Percy!”
Chong: “Percys not here.”

The only reason it's technically not scientific (yet) is because the US government...
refuses to acknowledge or support anything that might provide evidence that might remove Marijuana from a class 1 controlled substance. The result is that researchers haven’t been allowed to perform controlled studies which would prove it’s usefullness.

Except they can in Europe and Canada
I haven’t seen any studies about THC and migraines outside of pro-marijuana sites, nothing I’ve seen in JAMA, NEJM, BMJ, etc. Not saying they don’t exist, but I haven’t seen any.

Not performance enhancing
unless he is entering Nathan’s Famous hot dog eating contest. Percy does have one strike against him in the leagues substance abuse policy. I don’t think he was suspended because what he took wasn’t considered a performance enhancer/masking agent. Not sure what happens with strike #2.
Its a substance abuse policy..
They just classify what form of substance it is after a player fails it.

Erin Henderson
on the other hand must have taken what the league considered a performance enhancer/masking agent as I think he was suspended for his first infraction.
he missed practice again today
..according to viking update.. if we are w/o him for playoffs(god forbid).. i fear we wont last..
Never fear
First, PH was going to Mayo Clinic today. Considering the workup they do, he wouldn’t have been at practice today. If Mayo can’t figure it out, they’ll look into some alternative medicine stuff and get it solved.
Worst case scenario is that Percy Harvin is all right, but misses the playoffs.
Darius Reynaud, Jaymar Johnson, and Garrett Mills are all capable. If one man can’t go, the next man will step up.

Garret Mills
Isn’t he a tight end?

Article on PH and migraines
A doctor who hasn’t treated Percy says that football is not good for somebody with migraines.
So taking blows to the head isn't good for migraines?
Hmm… Who would’ve guessed that? Good job, Pioneer Press!

No crap...
I hear smoking is bad for my pnemonia. But really how could it be?
darkness and silence helps migraines too..
….so this weekend , for percy’s sake, chilly has formally requested to the panthers that they turn off all lights and keep fans quiet (the latter might already be a done deal as CAR is 5-8!)
PH PRACTICED TODAY!!
..now THAT is encouraging…
Harvin discusses migraines:
"the following statement is true:
the preceding statement was false" - george carlin
Thank God
He’s on my fantasy team and I got no one else to play.
More good news
In another StTrib article, they say that PH has a family history of migraines, and that he missed two games in his sophomore season at Florida.
http://www.startribune.com/sports/vikings/79698532.html?elr=KArksi8cyaiU9PmP:QiUiD3aPc:_Yyc:aUU
These are both good things to hear. First, it means there is a reason why he is having migraines, and so it is less likely that football hits are causing them. Second, he’s missed two games before, so this is not something new or without precedent.
For me, the thing that matters most here is the health of Percy Harvin, and the other Vikings players. Football is second after that.
Harvin is a good kkid and if the US wasn't so rediculous with rules he could smoke and be clear minded.
