Favre Looks Done: Hope He Bounces Back
I am no expert scout or NFL analyst; I have simply watched Brett Favre throw the football for the last 18 years or so. As a full-fledged supporter and Favre apologist, I am aware of but choose to ignore most of his football-based faults. He takes too many risks, plays emotionally loose and fires passes that only have meaning to him, passes that lose games and ruin careers. He also makes players, coaches and franchises. I hope he makes the Vikings a Super Bowl team.
That said, I fear he is washed up for this season. If you view carefully each throw, each dropback and each movement from the Arizona and Cincinatti game, you'll see what I mean. Tentaive choices, flutter balls, odd releases, less smoke on the ball and worse of all, indeciveness and indescrition. His body looks frail, his body language is ginger. I hate to say it, but he NEEDS rest.
Anyone care to agree or disagree? I hope Brett proves me wrong and fires missles of glory to Vikings abound, ending in Miami with Lombardi's Trophy. However, he looks finished. Can he bounce back? Watch the film.

HAHA AP puts up 19 yards, but it's Favre is finally washed up. And I thought 11-2 was pretty good... man was i wrong.

You would think he had thrown only 6 TD’s and 27 INT’s the way you wrote that out. My concern with Favre was him looking tired at the START of the season. Tell me, 40 years old or 20, who isnt tired right now? Hell, even Peyton Manning looked erratic this past Sunday. They are all tired.
But trying to look up his profile, goes into “page not found”. So that leads me to think we have a troll from a certian fellow SB Nation club who still cant get over the fact he is wearing purple right now instead of Green. Nice try jack-o, no implosion this year like last year and your team in our neighboring state.

Funny
On post game the ESPN heads were saying how youthful and full of vigor he seemed to have against Cincy. Showing a sharp bullet-like pass I think to Sid the Kid, the announcers were amazed.
He is thinking more. He has a mindset of “tam 1st” “Don’t make dumb mistakes”. The whole team sucked against AZ.
Brett showed he can lead the team against a solid Cincy team and put them away.
Were you watching Cutler videos?

Not even a good try . . .
Yes, watch the video. He’s sooooooo done. Leads the league in TDs to INTs ratio, has the 2nd best QB rating and he’s 11-2. What a loser.
Who let this one-flap down guy in?
Actually Aaron Rodgers leads the league in TD:INT ratio :).

well Favre used to.
And he’s still pretty darn far away from the collapse that has been called for.

I am no Packer fan wishing harm on Favre. I am just being honest. Let’s hope his body bounces back. He just does not look as good as he did earlier in the season. Childress will need to make sure plays continue to be drawn for quit hits to Taylor and Peterson. If they rely on Brett hitting the WRs, it’s just not going to work. Go Favre, go Vikings.
I don't even want to tell you how wrong you are.
Just…wow. The man literally couldn’t play any better. Oh my god, his QB rating dropped to nearly 100! SHIT. WE WANT T JACK!. Wow dude…I think we are watching different games.

Not seein' it man
Seriously. Look in the third Q of the Cincy game, Rice is running a slant in over the middle and Favre fires off a bullet to him. Some very serious heat on that baby, and it was all the more incredible the way that Rice reached up with one hand and OWNED that football. I think that was the most impressive pass and reception of the game.
Now there are definitely some issues in the O-line not opening lanes for AP on time, but that’s been on-going and hopefully they’ll work that out. To compensate, I think they’re sending AP for those sweet dump passes that Taylor is also known for fielding, because it still gets him the ball and it gets him some room to work. Hence, AP’s numbers this past game.
If Favre shows some letdown in the next couple games, then it’s time to be concerned. If we win the next two, he can take a couple weeks of R&R. :)

As though One Flap has cancelled (or been cancelled) his Norseman membership.
This isn’t the worst post of the year. There are too many unnecessary posts for that, but this is definately the most blatant and transparently stupid post.
“Viewing each throw, each drop back…” Like the touchdown to Syd where he pump fakes and jukes the rushing end/backer directs Rice with his off hand and tosses a dime for the score. I mean, if you factor in the Cardinals game, you have to acknowledge (As Favre DID!) he wasn’t on his game.
Thank you for promptly leaving oneflap.
Dude are you Effing Kidding?!?
Every time he throws a damn pick. Just 1 everyone hits the panic button. But Peyton Manning can go out and throw 3 and no one says a damn thing. Shutup
Who knew??
ESPN’s staff, both on and off-air, take their spare time to post at the DN. Wow!
(LoveHate, I was thinking the same thing about the TD pass to Rice last weekend when I was reading this. yeah..hes lookin’ pretty washed up.)
Even if we agreed that Favre was declining...
Which it appears, most do not agree…but even if he plays at say 80% of his ability the rest of the season…that can work..Vikes were in the playoffs last year without Brett and with a QB that was say 40-50% as good as Brett..catch my drift? A Brett Favre at 80% is better than most QBs in the NFL today..Let’s not forget about the other players that are making this a great season.
His opinion.....
He has a right to it, but perhaps the manner he is presenting is a bit “in our face?” This is the kind of post I would expect from a yahoo site….Minus the expletives deleted…
Sorry just don’t see that implosion he refers to and agree with the posters above….Even at 80% he is better than 90% of QB playing now (IF he were at 80% which he is not)….Washed up for the season?
Sure, just keep thinking that opposing teams and their fans, just keep thinking that! I like it when opponents underestimate us….makes the W that much more sweet!

This Post Reads Like Sports Columns........
written by sports writers with space to fill, but nothing to write about, so they make things up.
BF is looking a little bit tired lately in interviews, but no more so than every other NFL player I’ve seen recently in front of a microphone – the season is very long.
The Vikings are as likely as the Saints to go to the Superbowl – we’ll all be seeing more of those “lame” touchdown passes from Brett!
Dude posts his opinion in a very respectful, calm manner
and doesn’t sound childlike doing it.
Instead of refuting his opinions with facts or on-field opinions of our own, let’s just curse at him, call him stupid, dumb, wrong, and worst poster of the year. Oh wait… looks like you all already have that covered….
Heaven forbid your opinion strays from the masses around here. (I know that all too well)
I can understand that sentiment that Brett “hasn’t looked good” in the past two games… but he is still getting the job done and last week without one of his favorite targets. Until I see a “total collapse” of a game out of BF (no, I don’t think the Arizona game was a total collapse), I will continue to assume he will lead this team just fine. With all that being said, I do think you’re on to something with regards to rest. It DOES look like a week off would do Brett some good… so that’s why we should lock up the first round bye ASAP.
If you can't laugh at yourself... Who can you laugh at?

His point is that people didn’t need to jump down his throat as bad as they did. He’s right, the last couple weeks Favre hasn’t put up the same numbers he did before. He just made a post saying he thinks he might be done. It wasn’t anything terribly inflammatory, but people started beating him down almost immediately. Do I think the guy’s wrong? Yeah. But I’m not going to call him an idiot. Yet.

I refuted the fellow’s point, but he still has the right to offer his opinion in a decent fashion.

there’s a bit too much of that ’you’re opinion is wrong so you suck and should go away’ crap going on here.
post all you like for everyone to shut up but it’s not going to happen. you’re allowed to post your opinion and so is everyone else. the guy was respectful and didn’t flame and half the DN jumps all over him.

That is not true
He base his post on last year and one game. That is not fair. Last i remember Cincy defense is top in the league. I think that is what everybody is talking about. like Hate said stick around and discuss it. As for Favre. A sing of a champion is when we can win game when we don’t have our best stuff. You are not going to be 100% all the time.
Dude
It is true that Favre has a SB ring. I thinhk we can win the SB with him. That is all. I am saying he need to take a look at tho hole body of works. He is judging on an injure year, and one bad game.
so you’re saying favre this year = favre from 97?
he did win a superbowl. 12 years ago. what has he done since? 3-5 in the playoffs. go look at his individual games stats from the last 5 years. there’s a drop off in his stats beginning around week 12 every single year. look at his stats for this year. there’s a drop off in his stats beginning in week 12. this is the 6th year in a row. he’s magically going to come back and play better this year but none of the others when he was younger?
don’t take my word for it. go look at the stats. any site will do.
by iseepurplepeople on Dec 18, 2009 4:52 PM CST up reply actions
oh god
the rehashed stats thing. What are the stats for all QBs in the same timeframe? What are the stats after games played with a major arm injury are removed? What are the stats for QBs in the same timeframe playing for bad teams versus good teams? Some of those stats were with pretty bad teams. You can prove anything with stats. The existence of a stastical argument means absolutely nothing.
One of his harshest critics in the last decade, Troy Aikman, said he hasn’t lost anything since the 90s. He’s also much smarter.
The point is....
The team around Favre is not the same as those he has had in the past….that is fact…..He is certainly not failing/washed up as a QB, and his season is not finished, as is opined by the author:
Quote:
“That said, I fear he is washed up for this season. If you view carefully each throw, each dropback and each movement from the Arizona and Cincinatti game, you’ll see what I mean. Tentaive choices, flutter balls, odd releases, less smoke on the ball and worse of all, indeciveness and indescrition. His body looks frail, his body language is ginger. I hate to say it, but he NEEDS rest.”
These are all subjectve points and depending on the viewer, is totally inaccurate…..and inflammatory of course to a fan base that yes has fully bought into Favre as QB of the Vikings and can see the improvement (although there is that minority that still canot seem to acknowledge/accept this)….Check the facts (stats) against other QBs in the league at this moment…
Perhaps a slightly LESS confrontive approach by the poster would have at least opened the fanbase to reading and evaluating what his opinon was….Not saying he was using bad language, but perhaps the message was lost in how he packaged it nonetheless….
This is the same for some continuously negative posters that seem to reval in no matter how good the team does, referring always to the past as it may pertain to the now and to the future….That was the point of MilCardFan’s earlier post I believe, or at least what I took from it…
There is nothing wrong with a bit of cynicism, but even when the team does wel,l not to give them credit i.e. “Yes but….” in repeated posts does nothing for the fanbase other than lets them know there is someone that cannot enjoy the team OR their enjoyment comes from when they do stumble/fall/lose/stamp figuratively on others enjoyment….
If the point of the negative posts are to rain on everyone’s parade maybe the reaction/replying posts of those that choose NOT to see the bleakness of a 11-2 season to now should also be considered by such negative posters….and their (positive fans) subsequent reaction that you abhor…
The only thing that will quiet such negative posters/mind sets will apparently be when the Vikings happen to win the SB….No, on second thought that will probably just bring on “Wait to see how badly they perform NEXT year” from such “fans.” Do you see where this is going? Best just to not watch, since sooner or later they will lose right??
It is OK to be critical and confront any issues head on….To be a fan that is waiting for them to fall is I guess maybe more fulfilling if you are of such persuasion, since it is not easy to win the SB as we certainly know, so your chances of your end game being realized are higher….Certainly in the Vikes case, we positive fans have been tested over the decades….
I for one now mostly slide right on by the negative posters here (I have stopped looking at other sites, is just too much total garbage)….Let them have their “enjoyment” while I have mine….There is enough “can’t”, “shouldn’t”, “wouldn’t”, and “couldn’t” people, organizations, regions, and countries out here….
Why would I allow such people to spoil my hiatus from that/those other world(s) and moments of pleasure with the Vikes week in and week out? I will not….No matter how much that segment of fans (?) tries, that will not happen….Not here not on any other site….
So have your say and your opinion, is fine. Just do not expect me to buy into most of it, and by not acknowledging that they are not performing well when in fact they are, you are fooling yourself, but not me….I speak for only me, but I suspect others here feel something close to this….

Tarvaris Jackson is ready
We can play Favre for one quarter, or one series, then send in Tarvaris Jackson for the rest of the game, win, and then Favre will be rested for the playoffs. Favre’s streak will still be intact, too.
Thats not even funny dude!!!!
Were you joking? Man I hope so cuz TJ has maybe improved but he isn’t ready by any stretch. Just my opinion though. Have a good one
by Billings Viking on Dec 17, 2009 10:15 PM CST up reply actions
Tavaris Jackson is no Brett Favre
But that being said, TJ is still an outstanding athlete.
Jackson has been criticized relentlessly because of his inconsistency, especially in situations where the pressure is on his shoulders.
I like Jackson and I hope he stays with the Vikings. I think his inconsistency problem is something that can be solved. I’m sure he has learned a lot from Brett Favre and I think he needs to be given another opportunity.
I agree with medicineball in that I think Jackson is ready, though I want Brett playing until we’ve secured our Division and a first round bye. If we have that done before we play the Giants, I’d love to see Jackson play the entirety of the final game.
Running game coming up
The Panthers have a stout pass defense, but have been weak against the run. I expect the Vikings to run the ball on Sunday night.
Against the Bears on Monday Night Football, they stuffed AD last time. That one might require more throws. Since Favre signed, I always thought T-Jack was going to get the vast majority of work in that Bears game, late in the year, in the cold.
Gonzo please don't ban him
I just like to know what he is smoking be fore you ban him. I could you some of that sht.
I might respect him/her a little if his/her profile still existed.
So, I suspect this is the case.

"To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women."
My profile does not exist?
Perhaps I don’t understand the profile system, but I still exist, in general. Maybe I should come to this blog more often, to keep up with the type of repartee common to Viking supporters. I meant merely to offer some caution that may temper the late-season expectations for Favre. Hopefully he performs well and hands off often.

My apologies,
Your profile is certainly there now. There had to have been a glitch of some kind, as I was not the only one that checked and did not find it. I had clicked on your profile and the page was "not found". Then, I clicked on someone else’s and they were. I concluded (apparently incorrectly) that someone created a one time identity to suggest Favre was washed up. I would not have gone as far as to make the pic, if your profile had appeared at time.
I still disagree with your fears about Favre and I find usage of the term “washed up” to be quite ridiculous.
"What is best in life?"
"To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women."
It wasn't there when I checked it either

Yawn. nothing to see here, move along everyone.
I don't think people are over reacting
I think it’s a pretty blatant troll post. I will admit that Favre has not had the numbers he has had during parts of the season, but Arizona was a bad game all around (oline was in bad bad shape) And the bengals were the #1 rated defense when we went after them (well close to it.) so expecting a giant day would be expecting more than is reasonable.
I will say this, Chicago and Carolina will be cold games. And I would rather see T-Jack out there than risk Favre. You have to think at 40 the cold is going to affect him quite a bit and getting hit on top of that could be brutal.

The Panthers secondary said they can tell from watching film this week that there’s nothing gone from Favre’s prodigious arm strength. "Favre can make all the throws still that a young quarterback can make," Richard Marshall said. "Even though he’s that old." "He throws the ball so hard," Munnerlyn said. "It could be a swing route or a curl. He’s putting it there. You better be practicing on that Jugs machine, if you think you’re going to catch an interception, or he’ll break your fingers."What idiots those guys are! You better give them a call One Flap Down, the Carolina secondary apparently knows a lot less about how QBs throw the ball than you do!

you’re going to use pre-game quotes from the opposing team to back yourself up? what do expect from them? they’re 5-8 do you really think they’re going to come out and say anything negative and provided the vikings with bulletin board material? as if they didn’t have enough to worry about without doing that.

In Germany we say “Don’t step on that lip” to such folk…
I have to laugh, reminds me of my kids (two girls) when they were little….There were times when you just could not do anything right as a parent….
That bottom lip of theirs was stuck out a lot until they turned 20, when I got a lot smarter (I was VERY dumb for some years in their eyes for not allowing them to do many things they wanted to do/butting into their lives/etc.)….
The thing here is that unless the Vikes never lose another game, this will not go away….shame really, there is so much fun in watching the Vikes play this year – at least for me!

Where does it say that this guy is a Vikings fan? Just a Packers who wants to see Brett do well, even if it’s in Purple.
So let me get this straight:
Brett Favre fan who converts to a Vikings fan, writes wild claims OVER and OVER and OVER again, and until recently expressed all opinions in glaring CAPS LOCK

Brett Favre fan who has not converted to Purple but still wishes his favorite player the best, writes a coherent opinion that our QB might not be able to make it down the stretch.
- Hated, razzed, and flamed by all at DN.

You
pretty much described me:
Brett Favre fan who has not converted to Purple but still wishes his favorite player the best
But even if he is avid about Favre, he’s even more negative and shortsighted. He just drank too much negative Favre flavored media koolaid.
O-FD says here now that he is a Vikes fan – so he is under the R4F umbrella, who is not adored by this particular DN blogger. I appreciate his fervor, but he is best delivered in very small doses IMO.
Question to O-FD – have you seen the blast of INTs coming out of Peyton’s hand in the last 6 games? 2 INTs 4 games in a row, a game w/ o, the 3 INTs against 4 TDs – he has looked a bit haggard in interviews. If Favre is your boy, you have a funny way of saying it.
Manning bounced back nicely
Hope Brett does the same. Thanks for the commentary.

Not me again. I think the guy is as traumatized by Favre’s past failures as some Vikings fans are traumatized by our team’s past failures. Both need to get a grip, maintain perspective, and get solid in support for their stated teams/players, but it’s not a crime to go wobbly once in a while.

I was hesitant on whether or not I should say anything because I certainly knew how it would be viewed by many fans here but I agree with Viking83.
I think he took it a bit to far, saying that he thinks Favre looks like he is going to collapse as the season ends but there is no denying he hasn’t played as well the last 2 weeks as he previously has been playing.
So let me get this straight:
Brett Favre fan who converts to a Vikings fan, writes wild claims OVER and OVER and OVER again, and until recently expressed all opinions in glaring CAPS LOCK
- Loved and adored by all at DN.
Brett Favre fan who has not converted to Purple but still wishes his favorite player the best, writes a coherent opinion that our QB might not be able to make it down the stretch.

>_> It’s Aaron, and they had a chance to win the game at the end, but Jennings had a false start, while the Packers were on the 10 yard line or so, and with the 10 second run off the game ended. It wasn’t Rodgers. Sorry, R4F. I <3 you, but that game was not on Rodger’s shoulders.
No way

Don’t even waste your time with Salty. I tried showing him all these same stats a couple of months ago but his answers as to why the stats played out the way they did towards the end of year were because we had bad receivers and a bad o-line. I then asked why Favre was able to manage good numbers at the beginning of nearly every year with these bad receivers and o-linemen but I never got an answer…

Even if he's right
Brett looks good to me. As I have stated before. I didn’t want Farve as a Vike because he was a 40 year old Qb that couldn’t finish well the last two seasons. Wow, was I wrong. He looks like one of the top 5 QB’s in the league to me. Even if he’s tired (all NFL players are getting tired) he is still doing a great job. The truth is that every QB is only as good as his last throw. Injuries can occur on any play at any time and send a player to the sidelines. I’m thinking that the year of learning could not have done anything but improved T-Jaxs confidence. He has already played in a playoff game and is a better talent today than then.
So, for now we dance with the guy that broght us to the party. If he can’t continue then the Vikings still continue their winning ways. I for one and just glad Brett brought us to the dance.
Even if he’s tired (all NFL players are getting tired) he is still doing a great job.
And that’s why #2 seed is so important. If we get that, we can let 2nd and 3rd string take over for the final game, and our first stringers get a much needed rest and reconditioning period.
I’m thinking that the year of learning could not have done anything but improved T-Jaxs confidence. He has already played in a playoff game and is a better talent today than then.
Is it my imagination or has he been looking downright Favre-like in his pre-snap stance and pocket movement? I really hope the Vikings re-sign him, I want to see what he’s capable of, and I really don’t want to see him go to another team and perform like the franchise QB we had hoped he’d be.
So, for now we dance with the guy that broght us to the party. If he can’t continue then the Vikings still continue their winning ways. I for one and just glad Brett brought us to the dance.

Yeah, I learned to stop questioning Favre the last few years. After that 8-8 campaign, I thought he should tuck it in. What’s he do? Come back and lead the Packers to a 13-3 record and gets within one play of a SB. Then he goes to the Jets and I think, “yeah he’s gotta be done.” and he goes and lights it up for more than half the year before getting hurt. So this year isn’t such a surprise to me, because I was expecting him to prove people wrong. I can’t say I foresaw him having as much success as he has this season though.
I didn’t want Farve as a Vike because he was a 40 year old Qb that couldn’t finish well the last two seasons. Wow, was I wrong.

Sooner or later, they (Vikes) or Favre will fulfill yur prophecy of gloom and doom (lose a game, play poorly, lose in playoffs, lose in the Super Bowl….BUT if not there is always next season where you can do this….so guess your stand will be verified….

Aye
My main issue is he never tried to back his points up. I’m not looking to lambast people on this site, but when you say something very controvesial and then just back it up by stating you really are a Vikings fan, well I have a hard time respecting that. Other people who have an issue with Favre are having an issue backing it up. I will say he’s not putting the numbers up like he did, but I think teams are starting to scheme on him, and that is causing him issues.
Looking at a QB’s history in the play offs is a sketchy endeavor. One of the big problems is just because you make it doesn’t mean you had a team good enough to take it all. I think this team is one of the best that Favre has played on. For instance Denny Green took us to the play offs A LOT. However, a lot of those teams, well they were just good enough to get into the play offs not to go much farther (obviously a couple of those years we had a bit more talent :))
Well another 2 cents.
Perhaps I’m in the crowd that if you have a take, you should bring it and back it up. If your take sucks, be prepared to catch heat for it.
isn’t that a contradiction? he has to back himself up but if you disagree you don’t have to back it and he should just take the heat?
everyone who jumped on this post said ’you’re wrong’, ’you’re crazy’, ’you’re a troll’, etc but none of them backed it up.
bottom line is in the last 2 games he’s thrown the same number of picks as he threw in the previous 11 games. yeah everyone sucked in the arizona game INCLUDING FAVRE! and he didn’t look good against cincy either. but that was cincy’s d right? not favre. was every single throw a stinker? of course not, the man’s a pro, but these last 2 games don’t compare favorably with the previous 11.
and would you look at that, these last two games just happen to be 2 of the last 5 games of the season, which as we all know, is when favre begins his usual slide into mediocrity.
i’m not saying, i’m just saying.

No you don’t say we suck you just bring up some issues that you see the team having. Obviously after last night it’s going to be harder to refute you. I think we need to rest McKinney looks like he’s just about done for the season.
I will say this negative things are always easier to take when they have hope behind them. For instance I could say our O-Line is terrible there’s no way we can win deep in the play offs with it playing like it is.
Or
I can say the Oline is having issues since the Cards game. I wonder if we need to rest McKinney he looked like he was having some serious issues with Peppers last night, but the good news is that loadholt held him and that’s impressive.
There’s negatives to both approaches. You post negatively and then everybody wants to talk about how your a downer and not a real fan. You post optimisticly and everybody wants to tell you your a “homer” or “too rah’rah” about your team.

Yeah it’s scary when your doing well and expecting a fall (looks like it’s coming…) But still if someone went on your site and started talkign about Rodgers being terrible at the post season just after it looks like he’s pulling it all together. AND you’ve never seen this person post before on your site and when you look it up nothing shows up. Even later when it does show up this is the ONLY post he’s ever made on SB. Would you not think it was a troll post? How would your site handle it?
Well
Rodgers has never played in a postseason game so it would kind of be a moot point. I get what your saying though, and a lot of people would probably react the way many of the Vikings fans did to this post.
If people would just support their thoughts and arguments more in their posts, rather then just stating “your an idiot” there wouldn’t be nearly as many arguments. This isn’t a perfect world though, so…
by packallday555 on Dec 27, 2009 2:14 AM CST up reply actions
it all depends on how well the first post was done
If there are a lot of good points on it then it’s easier to refute it with facts becauase you have items to make your points against. If it’s just a post based on general ‘feelings’, well then all you really have to argue with are feelings… Since using facts can be ignored as they ignored them in the original post.
We’re 11-3 right now, not a bad place to be. I will admit I didnt expect to be here this year so I’m happy as is. I think we have a solid chance of winning out and maybe even getting 1st seed. A lot of things could go wrong, but the way things are they have to go wrong for us to lose, and I like that.
Favre became the game-manager
Favre was going up against Cornerbacks that were doing incredible man-coverage. They were covering receivers almost too good. How is Favre supposed to throw to that?
Same thing was happening in the AZ game.. The only difference between the Bengal game & AZ game was the Vikings were able to get the running game going.
Take how we played last week and replay 2 weeks ago. The outcome of that game would have been likely very different.
When your throwing into double-man coverage, over and over PICKs are likely.
This is where we need to get the run-game going.
Make teams suffer for crazy man-to-man.
The Bengals came into this game worrying about the Pass over the Run. We just proved to a good team you can’t do that.
It’s PICK your POISON with this team. Your going to likely lose 1 way or the other. By the run or pass..
Teams are better off letting us run the ball since we’ll score less.. HA
would Imagine
that there is some amount of fatigue in Brett’s arm. Plus it is purely opinion whether or not his performance is due to failing arm or stiff defenses. I personally love the debate and seeing and hearing all the different perspectives.
What is concerning is the aggressive anger for one poster. I read many blogs every day and the one that I always return to is DN because of the quality of posts, the clean language and the civil respectful tone as a whole.
Theviking83 has a point we all can be a little more grown up about a potential troll.
Flap has a right to his opinion and is welcome to post as he sees fit as long as it meets the quality standards DN has demonstrated to be the proper standard.
That being said I think Flap is full of crap about Brett “being done”. If you compare his performance to most other quality QB’s down the stretch most QB’s show some fatigue when they meet quality teams. We can’t expect Brett to play the same as he played mid-season when we played teams like the Lions. Quality teams find ways to win even during the stretch run. All teams in the league are putting players on the field that are nicked up and not 100%. I don’t think that the Vikes are any different.
If we agree that Brett might not be 100% at this point in the season I think that we can also agree that other top 10 QB’s are not 100% at this point either. The fact that players might look fatigued at this point in the season has very little to do with age but more to do with the violent nature of the game.
So…give both guys a break. We might all would a little nicked up at this point in the season, doesn’t mean we all should be put out to pasture. I think it just means that Chilly needs to adjust, just like every other coach and player in the league must do.

Traditional fans and the new alternative fans
The old tradition is to pick a team and support them through thick and thin.
One newer way is to pick a player and support the player as they go through different teams. I was a big Timberwolves fan when KG was there, and I still like the Wolves. When KG went to the Celtics, I was a Celtics fan for a year, cheering for KG to get that ring with that great team. It’s kind of funny, but the Wolves also drafted Ray Allen. Anyway.
If somebody wants to cheer for the Vikings primarily because Brett Favre is on the team, that’s cool with me. I believe him and accept him. He’s not a bandwagon fan, because he’s always been a Favre fan. It’s just a different kind of fan. It’s like fantasy football. It’s not how we used to do things back in the day, but if you want to cheer primarily for players, that’s OK with me. The way I look at it, is that it’s a team sport. But whatever.
Yes good point....
Call me old fashioned but have never been involved nor taken the time to do the fantasy football thing….
Just keep up with teams and players from the teams (not formal in any manner) and follow the Vikings closely…..
Our OP here is one of those that follows the player (and like him or hate him, Favre is one great one to follow!)….
Cool with me too….maybe just the way the wording was in the post and some of the conclusions drawn from his perceptions are what threw many for a loop….
That includes me….I don’t know – As a Vikings fan I think of where we likely be without Favre – lots of debate on that too I am sure…..

I tried the fantasy football thing with Citrus, and while it’s vaguely interesting to note how my utterly neglected ff team is doing, the truth is I just can’t bring myself to care one way or the other.
The notion of rooting for teams other than the Vikings, or for players that aren’t in purple and gold, is so foreign to me as to be ludicrous.

Another crappy game...
Anyone starting to worry that he MIGHT be onto something. This is his THIRD straight game with a QB rating of 70 something. He’s looked ordinary at best.
What do Vikings fans think is the problem with the o-line? They had been great protecting Favre up until the Cardinals game but have struggled a lot since then. Favre has been under more pressure, and as we saw with Rodgers at the beginning of the year, it has a huge effect on their play.
I think the Bears game should be an interesting one. I don’t think they have a chance to beat you just because their offense has been so bad as of late but I’m interested to see how your offense looks. The still have a respectable pass rush, though losing Ogunleye will hurt a lot. Alex Brown vs. McKinnie should be interesting.
I’m also interested to see how Favre performs. He hasn’t played particulary well in cold weather games the past couple years but his role on your team this year is much different then it was for us and the Jets.

Hutch has a bad back
McKinney has something wrong as well, no one talks about it but he has seriously stopped producing. Hutch and McKinney used to be the side that AP ran down, now not so much. Loadholt is doing a great job, Sully, well I don’t think he is even close to dominant and Herrara is not a standout OG.
So when you look at last year we had three pro bowl people on the line Birk, hutch and McKinney. This year all of those people are struggling or gone. Also, since we are not running as much I think that lets the specialist pass rushers T off on Favre.
Favre Done?
I have said elsewhere many times that I’d take Favre at 50 than most QB’s in the league. The man’s got FIRE, DETERMINATION, WILL TO WIN, A HOF career, and ain’t scared of anything. He has also stated that he was playing on the best team he’s ever been on; this year. He really believes that he can take the Vikings all the way. I say he rises above all the hooplah (he’s used to it), gets hungry, pumped up, and hits the field the rest of the season and once and for all, SILENCES his critics and brings the Lombardi Trophy to Minnesota!! So there, blah, blah, blah.
thanks for 'manning up'
and coming back to address the outcome. well played.
