oh when the aint's...come marching in...

I cannot wait for NO to lose a final game and have to come play in the HOMERDOME! I for one, do not buy into all of this Saints hype. Lets take a team that has a 2nd place schedule, in case you wondered why they didnt play our beloved VIkes this year, its because we finished FIRST in our division. Therefore, they play 2nd tier teams. We play the other division champs, Cardinals, Giants, Panthers. If no one has seen the consistency of the NFC South, youll know that 1st place this year = 3rd or 4th place next year. (i.e. falcons, panthers, etc). Now, I dont take anything away from them for being 11-0 because thats a great record, but aside from Monday night,  Drew Brees has sucked over the past 6 weeks. Their running backs cant play week-to-week because there always injured. I could make comparrisons all day... but  I believe New Orleans peaked Monday night and will have tarnished success for the rest of the regular season. A one dimensional team like the Saints would get destroyed by the most balanced football team in the NFL. SKOL VIKES>

Thanks.....

Have added one (two really) posts there to make one last attempt at getting some serious and sensible banter going with them…

The first reply was from Darshiva420 who added what I thought actually made some sense….surprised me…Filtering through his verbiage, makes some good points….

Maybe they (he) just needed to get over their (his) inferiority complex to start talking about some real ball? Another half decent comment just added too I see….

They do have a good team this year, no doubt….Their fans remind me of the 70’s when I too would blindly take the Vikes…Never mind the reality…

Now that I have a few (?) eye-opening unsavory experiences behind me, I tend to look at things a biiiiit differently when it comes to the Vikes….

The support level is still there on my part as a fan…to the end, and endlessly…but I also know now about luck, a less than stellar day, bad or no ref calls, nervousness, overconfidence, etc. These play a role as well….

This year the two toughest games we have will be that NFC Championship game and of course the SB….We can do it, yes we can….Is good to see that the only other real competitor I can see prior to appearing in the SB is NO, which appear to be overconfident….

With reason (overconfident) since to now they have had a bit of luck to go along with good playing…BUT stuff happens when you least want it to…Bottom line they better hope that the stars continue to be aligned for them! Vikes will be ready….and hungry….

It’s nice to hear some positive comments having had to wade through the amount of articles that have been written about the Saints in the last few days… the way some people are writing it’s like the Saints have already won the superbowl!

by karl c on Dec 2, 2009 3:40 PM CST reply actions

i wouldn’t say he sucked i’d say he was playing more like a game manager seeing as the running game and defense has made it easy for him. on a side note the saints lose two games down the stretch; to dallas and tampa bay. don’t laugh at the TB thing they’ve been really close a couple times this season and i think they’re ready to upset someone soon.

BTW I hear you! I think too they may lose at least one….and that we Vikes need to keep our focus week to week in the mission at hand – getting the W – so at the end of the season we have not lost ANOTHER game….HFA will take care of itself if we do that…and you know what? May not make a difference anyway…this is a psyched Vikings team….YES we CAN!

Although I know you don’t hope they lose. I do :D and I think that Atlanta will be the best chance to do it if they are all healthy. I don’t see Romo putting together a solid enough game to take you down.

I would want to see the Vikes win the Super Bowl. But if a catastrophe happened I would root for the Saints to take it.

atlanta is the game that worries me the most. The cowboys a little but not too much. IDK why he thinks TB is a real threat unless he plans on us resting some ppl for that game. I don’t see that happening unless you guys lose another game. Payton knows how important HFA is.

For some NFL channel discussion or highlight or something

they showed every Brees throw from the Pats game in rapid succession. It was definitely high octane.

by Salty on Dec 2, 2009 7:37 PM CST reply actions

I'm buying into the Saints hype,

because they appear to have a very good team. I believe the Saints and Vikes are the two best teams in the NFL this year and that it will be a terrific contest when they finally meet.

I hope the Saints lose one and that we can at least have a shot at home field, but if not we’ll just have to take advantage of a little rest and be grateful we’ll be in a dome, at least. Just hope for not too many motion penalties and we’ll be okay.

When they play the Vikings in the NFC title game, it’ll probably be the most exciting game every played, making the Superbowl seem dull by comparison! :)

That Championship game will probably be an instant classic and good game….I will definitely get a vid of it for posterity….and to watch once in a while when I need a little “pick me upper.”

Of course the SB will not be dull for the Vikings….since they will be playing in it! wink wink wink ; )

May be anticlimatic though….If IS the Colts though may also be good to the end…Never can you count them out….

Looking at them…man. They are a completely different team, they have a whole new swagger about them. I don’t think that there is a team out there that could easily put away the Saints but we have the best chance.

i feel the same way about the Saints :D

I don’t think anyone is going to blow you guys out but we have the best shot. Also, we have a new swagger too. I think are teams are very very very much alike. You guys needed a new QB to help you guys play better(only thing that was missing) and we needed a sorta new secondary with a new DC. They were the missing pieces to our puzzles.

Superbowl bound!!!...I know! do you?! Go Saints!!

by skinnykinney on Dec 4, 2009 11:32 PM CST up reply actions

Lets be realistic
Drew Brees has sucked over the past 6 weeks. Their running backs cant play week-to-week because there always injured.

To say this ignores reality. Brees leads the league in passer rating and touchdowns. He is an agile QB that has tremendous accuracy. The only way to stop him is to rush 4 at him and to get to him within 3 seconds. This is a problem for every team. He doesn’t hold the ball a long time and when he rolls out he buys time for longer throws. Our secondary hasn’t stopped a great passing attack like this yet this year. In fact we have been torched by passes up the middle. I think we can win but I see it as who can score the most.
The Saints running attack is very good. They have a higher yards per rush average than the Vikes. They take off and make one small cut and run hard. The line is effective at opening the one lane they need. I would love for our line to open holes like theirs do.

The Vikings need to concentrate on winning at Arizona. We have to win 4 of 5 remaining games to lock up the BYE week. If Dallas wins out they could pass us. 5 games is 1/3rd of the schedule. The way to beat New Orleans is to win out. The Vikes are far from perfect and can still improve. Meantime I have much respect for the Saints and Indy.

by lifelongvike on Dec 3, 2009 6:58 AM CST reply actions

Well said LLV!

Can we take what you wrote and replace the original fanpost with it? Gonzo, is that a capability of this website?

I’m counting on the Vikes making the playoffs, but from game #1 of the postseason all bets are off. Just look at all the years the Colts have gone in as a top 3 seed and been bounced out in the first game they play. As tempting as it is to talk Vikes vs Saints, because that would be one hell of a game, it’s premature.

Let’s take care of business in Arizona and then next week we have the Bengals. That will be a great litmus test to see how battle-ready our squad is.

A good coach makes his team better, he doesn’t wait for a better team to make him look good.

by dwarg on Dec 3, 2009 7:22 AM CST up reply actions

Battle-ready

I think you have hit upon the one phrase that best describes Brett Farve and the Vikes. With him as our QB I think the Vikes are Battle-Ready. And we know to well that in the NFL every week you will be battle tested.

by KilnBill on Dec 3, 2009 8:34 AM CST up reply actions

How to rush Drew Brees

Drew Brees 6’0 tall. He releases the ball quickly. Here is how to beat that.

1. Pass rushers stay in their lanes.

2. Contain the quarterback in the pocket.

3. Pass rushers get their hands up, jump, and knock down passes

4. Collapse the pocket and sack Brees if he holds the ball too long

5. Use a delay blitz by a linebacker once in a while. The Falcons did this, got a strip-sack of Brees and scored a touchdown on their fumble recovery.

The Vikings can do this. This will limit Brees.

by medicineball on Dec 3, 2009 9:31 AM CST up reply actions

Hell

The way he’s playing, I thuoght he was 10 feet tall and bulletproof. HAHA.Comon fellas, a little friendly ribbing never hurt anybody. OUCH………what was that!!!!!!!

You sat on Brett's cane

He doesn’t need it you can keep it. :D

by Grime on Dec 3, 2009 10:29 AM CST up reply actions

This has been the best strategy

about containing Brees that I’ve heard so far. Most ppl have tried to say to blitz him. Teams have tried that and have tried just coverage and neither has worked. It has to be a mix. The biggest thing I think is getting your hands up at the line. Brees has had a few passes tipped and then intercepted.

aw man

Brees hasnt “sucked” yet this season. Last time Brees had a bad game through the whole game was in Tampa last year with all that damn wind…man that game was a sighfest. In what way are we one dimensional? Looking at nfl.com stats, we’re top 5 in both rushing and passing yards and touchdowns. Our running backs are fine. The only way you’re gonna be 100% healthy this late in the season playing running back is if you’re on the sideline.

I said it on our site too and ill say it again…here’s to a healthy and strong run to the NFC championship for both these teams. I wanna see this game. I wanna see it in the dome more though :P

by fruly on Dec 3, 2009 1:25 PM CST reply actions

I agree

The OP was a bit myopic on his post. Saint’s and Vikes are the two most complete teams in the NFL right now. The question is when we meet will everyone be healthy enough for the game to be as good as it should be.

by Grime on Dec 4, 2009 8:25 AM CST up reply actions

Close game

Nobody saw the Cards coming last year and I think it’s way to early to put either of these teams in the championship game. That being said, I hope the Viks stay healthy so there won’t be any excuses when the Saints put that biblical butt whoppin’ on ‘em, and it won’t matter what dome they play the game in! BTW the Pats didn’t buy in to all the Saints hype either.
