McKinney is Over Rated!

McKinney is so over rated it is ridiculous.  All we hear about is how huge he is.  I would trade him in a heart beat for most of the other NFC left tackles.  I am not sure Loadholt is much better.  How is it the pathetic Packers have smaller guys and better pass protection.  We also can't open a hole for AP, which is killing our run game. I think we need to look at better O line players the next draft.  I was at the game in AZ and we keyed in on the O line often and each time we did they seemed to get schooled.

Just a couple points

1) Size isn’t the issue. McKinney is NEVER beaten on a bull rush. He struggles with speed rushers. Peppers didn’t overpower McKinney, he ran circles around him.
2) I think McKinney and a few other lineman are fighting injuries. Hutchinson was the only guy who looked healthy. Maybe Sullivan, but I haven’t been watching him long enough to say.

True

Every starting lineman has been on the injury report recently. Sullivan was listed with a concussion this week, but it must have been pretty mild as he played anyway.

He got beat on a couple of bull rushers last night actually, which like you pointed out is weird. I would still gladly take him on the Packers.

McKinney was beat silly

Maybe size isn’t an issue, but it wasn’t an asset either.

McKinney was outplayed. He was run around, he was run over. He was DOMINATED.

I don’t think his problem is that he’s weak, or slow. I think he’s lazy.

I’ve watched him closely for weeks, ever since that game where Favre threw a pass and hustled downfield to throw a block for Berrian, I think it was. Insane hustle. And I thought, why don’t the guys who’s job it is to do that, at least stay in the play?

Loadholt does. Load hustles after the ball on almost every play, he doesn’t finish his initial blocking assignment and then slack off, standing around like he’s done while the rest of the team continues with the play.

McKinney doesn’t. McKinney does his initial assignment and once the ball goes past him, he thinks he’s done. He just stands there. Maybe it’s poor conditioning, maybe it’s attitude, but I tend to think he’s lazy.

That’s only partially his fault. More at fault are his trainers, and the line coach who lets him get away with it, and Chilly, who fails to demand the best from his players and his coaching staff.

Loadholt will be good

Bu the does miss some assignment. He was not among the elite OT’s of the draft. Not cause he is bad. Just not totally NFL ready. But what choice did we have. I have always said it will take him some time but this experience is good.
Mckinny is a flat out waste. Peppers was put to the side for awhile by carolina so he is not the stud he once was. McKinney looked downright lazy. It was as if he were crying for a TE to come in and help on his side. (Which we should have) but BK di dnot look like a player who had any pride in his game at all.
Trade him after the season. Get a pick and get rid of the contract. Then hit FA market for an above average OT that at least comes to work.

Load's stock has risen

In the ESPN “Re-Draft”, Load was considered a top-10 draft pick, which I think qualifies him as being considered an elite rookie.

I don’t know if many rooks are truly “NFL-ready”, but I think Load’s coming along nicely.

good point

I too have noticed Loadholts hussle. I remember in the Pitt game Loadholt ran 80 yards down field after Harrison recovered a fumble. He is definitely raw, but I love the way the guy comes to work. He has the size and he has the ability and I think he has the desire to learn technique. He is only going to get better.

I think McKinne is just lazy and doesnt come to play every week. He is frustrating and as you guys have pointed out, over rated.

What really hurts about McKinnie is that he was a high 1st round draft pick (#7), so you expect great things from the guy. Well, he’s in his 8th season, and the only exceptional aspect to his body of work thus far has been that he was arrested in Miami at a bar fight.

There’s been a lot of investment in McKinnie, and the return has been an average OT.

Excuses

We just flat out got our teeth kicked in. Period. And by the way, Big Mac DID get bull rushed by Peppers a lot that game. That is the most disturbing part. If it was just the occasional finesse move to get to Favre, I’d be ok with that. Nope, just straight got trucked most of the night. Viking Coaches- here is an idea. When a probowl tackle is getting owned all night GIVE HIM SOME FRICKEN DOUBLE TEAM HELP FROM THE BEST BLOCKNIG TE IN THE GAME!!!!!!!!

What a total hot pile of garbage from every facet of the game. Thank god we should play most playoff games indoors. We simply are a soft team and cannot gear up for inclement weather games.

Whenever McKinnie got beaten on a bull rush

by Peppers, as far as I saw, it was because McKinnie was playing way behind the line to keep Peppers from getting around him. So Peppers was going full speed, McKinnie was backpedaling already at the time of contact, and Peppers only had to go a few feet before Favre was within reach. If McKinnie didn’t have to worry about getting beat around the edge he’d have been able to block Peppers at the line and he’d have been much more successful.

Define better.

To say the Packers have better pass protection defies all reason.

Big Mac is WAY overrated, that’s true. But outside of that you may be overstating your case.

It’s actually hard to say we weren’t run blocking because we only made 14 rush attempts the entire game, even though we held a 1 point lead through the majority of it. If we’d let our line tee-off in run blocking a little more it might have opened things up. Then again it might not have, but 14 attempts is a pretty small sampling.

A good coach makes his team better, he doesn’t wait for a better team to make him look good.

14 attempts?

Is that true? If it is, wow. Theres your problem with last night right on the stat sheet. No other analysis needed. We should be pounding it. Plain and simple. Even if we suck at it because eventually it will pay off.

If one play sums up the shady play calling

It was the 3rd and 1 sweep. POUND THE DAMN BALL! I’m so sick and tired of these outside read runs. Run between the tackles like we did VS. Cincy.

Call out

Since we are calling people out, I want to throw Tyrell Johnson into this. He is absolutely awful. He has not made a play all year and is constantly missing tackles, taking bad angles, and getting caught flat footed. I’m done with him. I dont know how he has avoided criticism this season seeing he is the worst starter on the defense. Samford needs to be starting. He stepped in last week and made a couple nice plays. From the little we’ve seen he is aggressive and plays with the reckless abandon that a nfl safty needs to play with. He may be a liability against the pass and I understand the hesitancy starting a rookie S this late in the season, but I want to see what this guy can do. Guarantee he is an upgrade over Johnson.

I agree

Johnson is the worst starter on the defensive side of the ball. While I’m not huge on Sanford yet, I do think he’s a step up from Johnson and will develop into a very legitimate starter, unlike Johnson. Johnson’s performance has been at best that of a decent back-up.
