We lost so I guess we suck now? & How to Unsuck our sucky team!
May I repeat, the sky is not falling! The Vikings aren't dead! I can for sure say we don't suck, but do lack what made us dominant at the beginning of this year! And
Didn’t Arizona get demolished by both New England and Minnesota late in the season last year, but come playoff time they were dominant! Didn’t the Colts their season winning the Superbowl make there mark mainly in the Playoffs, after their defense sucked it up? Why do people just say the Vikings sucks because we lost? Why are so many fans disappointed for an 11-3 record? Why are people stating our wideouts are overrated? If so we wouldn’t be 11-3 or even half of that! These are times when teams expect if anyone the FANS to help them out, not bashing them! No one can get motivation if their own fans are bashing them! But I think our success is clearly in the hands of Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor! Why does our running game excel with T-jack at qb but not Favre? When we win against the Bears than I would let T-Jack play the last game!
Well I must say that the Vikings did disappoint but in the beginning of the season we ran the ball! Yes ran it! We are built to run the ball! The Panthers are to, and they proved it! Also I think we look for the deep ball too often now! Yes it loosens up a defense, but only if it works, and now it's not working! Mainly because our running game isn't functioning right!
Last year if we were getting stopped in the run, we still ran! Why? Because we knew Peterson would give us what we were waiting for! And if it wasn’t Peterson, it was Chester! Stop passing so much to unsuck our sucky playing ways!
Last year running in passing attempts compared to this year!
2008
519 att 32.4 att per/g
2009
402 att 28.7 att per/g
I'm not saying run the ball 40 times a game, but than again that might be the best thing to do right now! I also know Jim can block, so throw him to the left side, and ram it to the left side of the line!
Our team is in a lot of controversy now! Apparently we can't get it done on the road as of late! So what do we do next? Maybe switch our defensive looks, and press the wideouts before they come out of their breaks! And most of important defense, TACKLE! Brinkley i know you're a rookie, but we drafted you thinking you were the best tackling LB in the Draft! You have to prove that to us and you didn't last night!
But I believe our teams runs off of momentum! When things aren't going so great we need someone who can change the pace of the game into our favor! That brings up the question, why not give Percy Harvin the football!? He's a running back/Wideout/Kickoff returner/ momentum shifter!
But still, our team doesn't suck, our ways sucks! We still have life, we're the 2009 NFC NORTH CHAMPS, we made it to the playoffs, next step is getting the Number 2 seed to at least play at home!
That's all, thanks True fans for holding in there!

Couldn't have said it better!
Thank you for the great post…couldn’t have said it any better. True fans stick by their team WIN OR LOSE. I’m tired of fans jumping on and off the bandwagon every time we win or lose. We will rebound!! Have faith! And remember, we are still 11-3!! Many teams would LOVE to be 11-3! SKOL VIKINGS!
11-3
The way some people carry on about a loss is a poor reflection on them. I never thought the Vikings would be 16-0, who did? We’re in the playoffs!
SKOL VIKINGS!!!

Noone is jumping off the bandwagon
Ive stuck with Vikings for 40+ years, thru thick or thin…We are unhappy with Chillys play calling and lack of adjustments to flow of game…I will never be a Chilly fan, but always a devoted Vikings fan…Voicing my displeasure, not going anywhere…

If you’re an optimist….and a Viking fan….you’re young.
I’ve seen this movie so many times I can repeat the lines.
And I still love the Vikings & I can guarantee you that I always will.
But damn, I’m tired of this crap (as usual). My friends & family really get a kick out of me every year come December.
Stepped on my lip yesterday....
Bruised but am ok….
Today is again stiff upper lip scenario….
I am back….hope Vikes same….

Right on WVViking
Even if everything falls to crap (and I’m not saying it will), I’ll be wearing my Purple proudly next year again. And the year after. Maybe it’s masochistic, but I don’t believe in staying down when I fall.

Ok
I’m all for unblemeshed optimism, but what the team put on the field last night was a hot pile of garbage. I’m not going to paint a pile of crap in a rosey picture simply because me realism might upset you or you think I’m a band-wagon fan. If you say that, then screw you. You better believe it when I’ll be watching every game, but that doesn’t mean I have to just like what we saw and accept it. Party of a champion is recognizing mistakes and overcomming them. This is the second game that this has happened to us, and what is worse is that Carolina is not a good football team, I’m sorry.

No one questions your loyalty
As you can read I pointed out some things in my posts that don’t cover up the crap with flowers.
Jepp. There are some guys out there that are playing like that picture of crap. Problem is, we don’t even see the crap, maybe we’re stepping around it and pretending it isn’t there. Shovel the crap up and plant the flowers. Using the analogy: We are trying to plant flowers around the crap and hope no one notices. Fix the dang problem. We have a coach and a couple players emiting the odor of crap.
I am worried about the timing of these loses and what is going on in the locker room and coaches office. I didn’t expect undefeated. Butwhen you lose, then seeming correct it with a nice win and then do the same thing 2 weeks later. Did we fix anything or just give it a tempory cure.
We are heading into the palyoffs. Philly hasn’t used Westbrook most the year bu thas figure out how to fix the problem. Are we?
If it takes Favre to just audible and take over Chillys stupid playcalling. Let him. Favre doesn’t seem to worry abou ttaking responsibility for it. Chilly can pass it off now. ESPN heads are saying this and that. It wasn’t Chilly’s fault. Brett bucked his athority.

It wasn’t Chilly’s fault. Brett bucked his athority.
Not possible. That’s Chilly’s fail for not asserting his authority. You should absolutely expect a solid veteran future HoF QB to push hard and try to do things his way, that’s who he is, that’s what he does. It’s the HC’s job to make the final decision, and if Chilly isn’t up to that, we’re looking at a re-run of the Tice Era.

I think you're right.
And in addition, instead of people jumping to conclusions that Brett bucked this, or Chiilly didn’t get it his way, or whatever…
Maybe just maybe these were two professional people with respect for each other having a discussion in the heat of the moment, and both agreeing to keep Favre in the game?
Chilly is an idiot for trying to bench Favre in the 3rd qtr when they were up 7-6. Chilly is also an idiot for his conservative play calling. We need to go for the “jugular” which we can if the “play caller” gives us the opportunity.
Playcalling
way too conservative. Why punt the ball away towards the end of the 4th down by 12 or whatever it was? We needed to make something happen ON OFFENSE and we just conceded defeat so it seemed.
yeah...
that was a ‘lets pack it up and take it home’ moment.

by ArizonaVikingsFan on Dec 21, 2009 2:54 PM CST up reply actions
Decent Call
I can see punting it there. 4th and 5 on our own 35, down by 12, 8:17 left.
The way the game was shaping up, that’s practically handing them at least 3 points. if it was 1 or 2 yards, maybe go for it. But 5 yards, that deep in our own turf, when we supposedly have one of the better defenses in the NFL…..
There are plenty of playcalls to get angry about, but I don’t think this is one that’s cut and dry.

We had a hard enough getting that one score
up to that point. What made Chili think we could get 2 with less than 8 minutes to go assuming we didn’t recover a fumble or get a penalty called on the kickoff in our favor?
we had a hard enough time on 3rd and 1, what would make chilly think we could get 5 on 4th down?

My point is simple- Who is in charge and who has the respect of the team, I have scrolled below and there is no persons thoughts here I can dismantle. Once again DNer’s have a grasp on something.. I believe it is a lack of unity. Is it coming from coaches ( where the ultimate responsibility should be), or the players. It is both.
Your Tice era statement could be very true.
I’l go back to what a few of us murmored about way last year. If we are using a fullback to block, why not just put Taylor and AD in the same backfield more often?
Really. If you look at the following comments you could present a package of issues for this team to disect while heading into the playoff run.
Bottom line is-Something is very wrong (actually a lot of things). This team better get on the same page fast.

I'm with Jepp
The problem is not losing. It’s how we lose. Being dominated is not a good sign. Maybe a playoff game will light a fire under our ass, I certainly hope so. This is my team. I’m going to root for them no matter what. We all want them to win it all & yes I believe we still can. The Vikes need to get a chip on their shoulder & start playing with some passion. The playoffs are 1 & done. There is still time to right the ship. Anyone outside our fan base who has seen our Sunday night games would not even consider them being a Superbowl contender. Why would they we sucked. We have had this happen to us more times than we would like to think. We collapsed in the Ravens game. We did not have the answer for the 49ers game. A missed field goal & a miracle play or we would be 9-5. Maybe we really aren’t as good as we think we are. Favre says this is the best team he has ever been on. Is that true or is he just sucking up?
If that’s true then we need to start playing like it.
Well said, Jepp. Totally agree with you.
But apparently our opinions “reflect poorly on us” – apparently we’re jerks for being angry at a loss that we should, um, well, be angry about.
Is not a question of angry....
That I understand….
It is a question of comments made and how they are packaged….many really troll like….
These are not ones of anger, they reflect hoplessness, gloom and doom….trolls feed on this, they revel in them, and enjoy when others are dragged/buy into them…
In the BIG picture, the debacle Sunday night was not pretty, but presents an opportunity…
Either the team fixes the problems presented or they watch with us the SB on TV….
There is always another game, another season, another decade, etc.

That’s exactly what’s bugged me about it. And these trolls have continued, despite that being pointed out to them. They not only want to wallow in their own misery, they want to drag as many of us down with them as possible.
Well, that’s not acceptable. That would turn the DN into a purple reflection of the Acme Packing Company, and quite frankly, I know we’re better than that.

Practice what you preach
Anger? Look in the mirror before saying that about others.
Before preaching to others about “shame on us” for not “allowing other opinions”, remember that next time you tell me or anyone “want a cookie” for sharing reasons why I never give up, or take off my “rose colored glasses” or that being optimistic is more or less moronic. Go ahead and live your life with a set of your dark grey and gloomy glasses, I don’t give a flying “f”. But before you start whining about the way you’re being treated, perhaps you may want to think and look how you put down people who are being optimistic and trying to keep others feeling good. Makes me wonder how your life truely is.
Since I’m a F’in “jerkwad” for saying what I said, while I truely hope your son makes it and get’s well, you may want to look in the mirror and say jerkwad a few times. You used that as an excuse for being stressed about things and taking it out on folks here. We have all gone through bad crap in life that effected everything from friends to stuff like the D.N.. Perhaps time to back away and contrate on what’s important and gather ourselves. While I defended you and a few other’s when we lost against AZ tho you were doing exactly the same as you did Sunday, I say thank you to those, like ALL of us that were upset, for taking a deep breath and not making the situation worse Sunday.
You are hypocritical and have no problems putting others down for trying to be uplifting but yet cry wolf when people start getting on you. This will be the last post I will acknowledge you as I am no longer going to concern myself with your “opinions”. Basically, you’re a black hole. Start treating others the way you want to be treated, it’s a whole new world when that happens.
I will say prayers to your son.

Run the Ball!!! Not.
I’m not saying the Vikings are done, or that they suck… They had a couple bad games, but to borrow an old saying from a different sport, ‘It isn’t over til the fat lady sings’.
But we aren’t going to be successful running the ball with Adrian Peterson any more, and here’s why;
1) Adrian Peterson is no longer a surprise. Other teams are able to easily game for him, they have lots of tape now on lots of teams bottling AP up. They know how to do it, and it’s really not that hard.
2) Plan B – Chester Taylor! Well yes and no. This only works if AP is on the sidelines, if he’s in the game then CT is going to have the same problem that AP has.
The real issue isn’t whether or not to run, it’s WHY we can’t run the ball like we used to. And for the answer to that, you have to look at the Minnesota front line.
Hutch is aging
McKinney is a statue, and a lazy statue at that.
Sullivan is starting and while he seems ok, he’s no stand-out.
Herrera is adequate.
Loadholt’s a rookie starter, not bad but not yet great.
Together, as a unit, they’re an epic fail.
They’re barely functional in pass-blocking, they don’t give Favre as much time to pass even when they’re having a good day.
They’re downright embarrassing in run-blocking, they’re incapable of opening lanes 90% of the time for Adrian Peterson. Peterson literally runs smack into their backs, because the gap that’s supposed to be there, isn’t. This costs him a couple seconds, which is enough time for the opposing D to key on him, and swamp him.
So it’s all well and good to call for more running, but when your run-game is nearly non-existent, it’s not very helpful. Again, this is not AP’s fault, you can’t expect him to carry the whole offense on his shoulders without some help.

No
He stopped being a surprise this year, once every team in the NFL had the blueprint on how to shut him down. It just gets worse and worse every game as they fine-tune the AP-Shutdown.
We can open that up again if we had an O-line that could open lanes, or we ran better sweeps (which we aren’t), but as it stands they got him cold. You just can’t expect Peterson to carry 3+ defenders on his back and bust out for 10 yards.

I f you get a running game going, the defense has to try and stop it, then your passing game will work better too. He had 12 carries for 35 yds Sunday, compared to 26 carries for 97 yds last week.

I don't but
He’s our key to winning football games! Many people say that Adrian is Declining! I disagree majorly! I think to change things up we need to get Percy in some running formations since he’s slim and can bounce off defenders like Jones-Drew! Our offensive line just needs leadership and we lost that with Birk!

Leadership
I don’t know… maybe that’s part of the problem, you could be right.
But watching McKinney get run around, run over, pushed over, and crushed, as Peppers went through en-route to Favre, was sickening. Especially when Peppers is obviously 2/3 the size of McKinney.
We need to support AP, and until we have the O-line doing it’s job on both passing and running assignments, we’re going to struggle.

This makes sense
I dont care who bashes your statement here, you’re on to something. I’ve been watching this “bunch up at the line of scrimmage” thing that we call our running game. Where the heck are the lanes? Our offensive line is regressing…BADLY!!! Were not going anywhere in the playoffs if our O-line doesnt man-up & start pushing people around. And apparently, they arent going to. McKinnie should go back to beating up skinny people in bars. Its apparently the only place that he can assert any type of physical dominance. Peppers used him like a freakin’ rented mule last night.
Its sad cause’ all Adrian needs is a crack of daylight & hes gone. No cracks at all. Why are they always three yards in to our backfield when Adrian gets the hand off?
What happened to this line was made to run block?
They can’t do either this season

I don't know...
That’s up to Chilly and his coaching staff, that’s what they’re paid to do. And they need to do it.
We aren’t the only ones seeing this issue. The big-heads at NFL-central and ESPN have all come to the same conclusions we did (AFTER we reached them first, I might add :)) ). There’s no way that Chilly can fail to have been told, repeatedly, what the problems are, athough he should have had it figured out for himself.
This week against the Bears, I expect to see the necessary adjustments and changes. Not because of any ‘revenge-factor’, but because Chilly has to do this or it makes it clear that he doesn’t deserve to be Head Coach of a high school team.

Back to the basics
Yes thats what we need to do.
If the D loads the box, we need to pass…. and maybe take a couple deep shots?
If we see a consistant heavy pass rush, we need to dump the ball on a short pass to Harvin, Peterson and Taylor.
If we do nothing defenses will continue to stack the box and we won’t go anywhere.
If we do all of the above, and defenses start to respect the passing game again, we’re nearly unstoppable.
Tried that, Didn't work
The problem was that the D flooded in, primarily in the form of a resurgent Peppers, so fast that Favre barely had time to hand off the ball. The line was swamped and slammed so they bunched up trying to support each other and the Carolina D simply overran them on the outside.
It all starts with that front line… we don’t have that, we don’t have an offense.

I would actually blame this mostly on the O line as well
Funny how we were looking to draft something to work with in teh Defensive backfield and yet right now I would love to see another Left Tackle we could pick up.. McKinney needs to be rested or something. Take him out the next couple of games and get him ready for the play offs. Favre does not do well with that kind of pressure on him. AP is going no where becuase our O line gets zero penetration. I’m not sure what yo ucan do so late in the year to change that but it’s almost like they’ve passed block so much they’ve forgotten how to get off the ball aggresively.
As well we need to ge Favre on the low risk high completion percentage passes he was pulling off in the beginning of the year. Get back to a possession game and win it with that. We have YAC and possession receivers lets use them the way they want to be used.
Very little difference between winning and losing
Its a very tough league. A team has to come out and play with heart each and every game. It sure looked liked we had little heart last night. Time to go back to work on the basics and beat up the Bears next week. Winning makes my heart grow even fonder.
Figuring out what is wrong and what can be done about it is the responsibility of our highly paid and newly extended HC, his supposedly HC-ready and deserving DC, and the OC that we all know is in over his head but at least put it together earlier in the year for a few games.
We had a good run, defenses have made adjustments and now it isn’t working any more. So this brain trust needs to figure out how to do something other than make some lucky team an easy opening playoff win.
Sure, talent-wise we’re capable of winning a playoff game, but we now must admit that believing this team (playing the way it’s playing now) can march to the Super Bowl is a real leap of faith.
Childress got the extension and the vote of confidence before he deserved it. Would he have gotten it at the end of this season?
There's no
doubt that Vikings fans aren’t happy that the Vikings have made the playoffs. I’m concerned, along with everyone else here, how in the world we’re going to make it in the playoffs if we played like that last night. That was by far the Vikings worst game this year, even worse than the Arizona game, because well look, we still scored 17 points in that one. We made mistakes all night, I really wished they would have put Tarvaris Jackson in the game. He’s mobile, and he can throw pretty well. Brett needs rest. As does our offensive line.
I wasn't ready for Tjax
when we wer up 7-6. But, when things kept staying stagnent going to the 4th, I felt what the heck?
Give BF a break and just let T Jax go nuts with his legs. Not benching BF but in the words of the ESPN segment “C’mon Man!” Do something.
Akid down here was a Vikes fan. He said something that we both scratched our heads on
Favre looked like he couldn’t play in cold weather. He looked totally stiff, not himself. The kid said }This from a guy who played in GB most his career?"
Now, I don’t know how true it is bu tmaybe the guy hates the cold more than we know. Vikes are my system. They play in a dome. Against teams I am familiar with. Perfect! Except when we are on the road at the end of the year-outdoors in the North.
However, doesn’t explain the rest of the teams problems.
Last thing??? Go after Brooks as an OLB and move Greenway to the middle. That sounds better than Leber. Greenway plays smarter than Leber or move Brinkly to the outside. Better yet Heath. on the outside.

What a stinker, the coaching stunk, reason game plan example ,peppers should have been double teamed from start to finish with a tight end not a back and this should have been practiced. OFFENSE The tackles got whipped and the o-line didn’t open any holes in the running game its been awhile since PETERSON has rushed for a 100yds and when favre had 2 seconds to throw his receivers dropped or fumbled the ball, DEFENSE PASS RUSH allen double, tripple, teamed all game so what happened to the other guys , a lousey pass rush means the cover 2 defense will fail and the whole defense forgot how to tackle,I think the coaching staff, and players on both sides of the ball should donate their game checks to charity this week .COME ON MAN!
Agreed.
Just one more reason for why you guys really don’t want the El Stinko Vikings in California :)
Ah, ah,
We come from the land of the ice and snow,
From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.
The hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new lands,
To fight the horde, singing and crying: Valhalla, I am coming!
SKOL!
Lots of issues to address this week....
Not much time, but the basics are there….They do have the talent if used properly to dominate…Any real deep playoff team will be able to adjust/correct what they learn during the season….
Let’s see what happens…This team has seen the things they need to fix in their two less than stellar games (understatement)…It is the time for them to dig deep and show what they are made of…..
The going will be tough, and there are few “gimmies” ahead….If they truly want to wear that SB Ring they have to show from here on out they they can perform and deserve to be considered….
I and a lot of people will be watching and hoping they get their sh%t together….This year is one that should not be wasted….They do not come around so often….11-3 is good, not outstanding, but good….damn good…
BUT – Now we will see what they are REALLY made of….
When times are tough, the tough get going…
Let’s see….
I would rather be IN the Arena than watching from the stands...That is my life!
* Read Teddy Roosevelt's "Man in the Arena" if you need further explanation...
