Around SBN: Newcastle Battle Injury Woes Ahead of Tottenham

There has been a long-standing debate on who the fastest player on the Vikings is. Percy Harvin or Adrian Peterson both claim to be the speediest member of our Beloved Purple.

But when it comes to driving, AP has that contest won hands down.

I guess Purple Jesus was in a hurry on Saturday evening, because he was allegedly clocked at 109 mph on Highway 62 in Edina. Peterson says he wasn't going that fast, and I tend to believe him. I live right off 62 and I'm not sure it's humanly possible to go that fast without running into traffic or construction.

No way.

I also live near there and you are correct. There is no way, regardless of your driving skills that someone can attain that speed on that stretch of road. Not even for a brief second. This smells like extortion. I hate to jump to conclusions, but I’m not looking to favorably on the local police department right now.

Extortion sounds a bit heavy handed

Can’t say I know the stretch of road, but I believe he was speeding (which is no big deal). Why pull extortion on a petty misdemeanor that carries a fine of $2-300?

by archie2227 on Dec 3, 2009 2:23 PM CST up reply actions

Again, I’d like to state that this is pure speculation, but couldn’t the cop pull him over for going like 10 miles over the speed limit and then once he saw who it was claim he was doing 50 over the speed limit.

“But for a small personal fee, I could probably reduce that violation and let you go.”

I can believe....

When I used to drive north from the cities to I-Falls via Grand Rapids, would take I think Hwy 65 – a 4 lane that is not patrolled as much as interstate 35 is….

Routinely would hit 100 mph or more….and make better time than on the Interstate….Also more direct route…..just had to watch for those pesky deer, and speed traps of course….

Nowadays would not do this…..but for many years was the way to fly….I still am not too confident of the puddle jumper flights up there and prefer to drive…

Stuff happens….what to do….in Germany 109 is what 170 kph? There would be cars wooshing by you doing that….

I would rather be IN the Arena than watching from the stands...That is my life!

Was he even driving?

“he was allegedly clocked at 109 mph on Highway 62 in Edina”

You’ll notice there’s no actual mention of a vehicle. I’ll bet he was on foot.

BUt he still could out run it on foot!

Sounds like something that worthy of suspension if you ask me

Maybe something like three or four days :-)

In the paper, Peterson said that he was late for the meeting,

so I wouldn’t be surprised if Chilly sits AD for the 1st possession this week. Chilly’s a stickler for that sort of thing.

Yeah, I think the same thing happened to him last year. He didn’t get a speeding ticket, but he was late for a meeting, so Chilly started Taylor instead.

by chaosg on Dec 3, 2009 2:45 PM CST up reply actions

for speeding tickets? Everyone gets a couple in their life, this is no big deal.

hahahahahaha!

no chance….maybe take away his car keys for a week or two……make him REALLY run (or be driven I imagine)….

Three or four days…..hmmmmm I sense there may be an ulterior motive in this idea….what in the world can be happening over the next 3-4 days….

Oh yeah! We have a football game coming up……

Although stranger things have happened, never know how Goodall will react, ESPECIALLY since is one of his favorite teams to hammer on, the Vikes!

Sheeezsh!

Take a look at Bezekira's helmet in his profile picture.

I think you’ll understand why he brought up the suspension—he’s a Cards fan. Can’t say I blame him :)

by Eric J. Thompson on Dec 3, 2009 2:47 PM CST up reply actions

true that

I also heard Favre, Allen and the Williams Wall were in the car……suspend ‘em all I say even if it’s just a rumor that some idiot on a fan site posted.

Be careful....to a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

by Bezekira on Dec 3, 2009 2:50 PM CST up reply actions

Actually

I heard Larry Fitzgerald was home in Minnesota for Thanksgiving weekend and was behind the wheel. Adrian was only in the car because they were on their way back from a secret meeting of “The Best Player in the World at Your Position Club”.

Yeah, that’s it!

by Eric J. Thompson on Dec 3, 2009 2:54 PM CST up reply actions

If the whole rumor holds up I'll take it....

No Purple Jesus, Favre, Allen, Williams Wall or Fitz…..oh wait the NFL just flexed the game back to it’s regularly scheduled time.

Hard for me to believe AP didn't know he was going 100mph.

62 is narrow and curvy, and even harder to drive after dark. I don’t care if you’re driving a Ferrari, you know if you’re going 100mph on that road. :)

by chaosg on Dec 3, 2009 2:45 PM CST reply actions

100MPH

Its definitely hard to tell your going that fast. I go 120mph (hypothetically speaking of course! =)) on my way to Vegas, the road smooths out and you dont hear a hymn. Its crazy.

Actually

Driving down I-25 here in Albuquerque in my Firebird (1991 with a V-6), there have been a few times I havent payed attention and looked down and the needle was pegged over 100. And a BMW is even more refined then my ‘Bird is. Not saying he wasent doing it on purpose, but if you have the correct type of vehicle and not paying attention to the speedo, you can be hauling on not notice it. Now, on a curvy highway, more then likely knew he was bookin. But I will admit, I’ve put my Firebird through the paces late nights. Found a little 6 banger can top out about 130. A full blown 1991 Trans Am GTA is only 20 MPH faster hehehehehe

After seeing some

intelligent people on the ESPN board calling for him to go to jail, I looked at some MN traffic law and found this gem.

A person shall not race any vehicle upon any street or highway of this state. Any person
who willfully compares or contests relative speeds by operating one or more vehicles is guilty of
racing, which constitutes reckless driving, whether or not the speed contested or compared is in
excess of the maximum speed prescribed by law.

Haha, so it looks all those people that merge without comparing relative speeds are the ones that are actually doing it right.

Here's a visual aid

This is a picture of Highway 62 about a half a mile south of where I live. It isn’t as bad around Edina, but it’s still only two lanes each way. And at 8:30 PM, it isn’t bumper-to-bumper, but it isn’t exactly dead either.

Now I’m not a conspiracy theorist or anything. I’m sure that he was probably speeding…just questioning the 109 mph.

The cop probably made an “honest” mistake that no judge will believe so that the Purple Jesus can contest the ticket in court. I would like to remind AP that if he was going that fast to be real careful because Pelle Lindbergh found out the hard way that expensive German cars hit walls just as hard at those speeds.

I think

Drazen Petrovic (NJ Nets) died in a high speed car accident as well. Athletes have egos & money to buy fast cars, and egos + fast cars can be extremely dangerous.

I know a lot of people are laughing this one off (Eric’s “Straight Cash Homey” comment in particular was hilariously awesome) but if AD was indeed cooking at over 100 on hwy 62, I hope he chills out from now on. One wrong move or slick spot could squash all of those “Could he be the greatest ever?” talks.

Ok, enough of the Debbie Downer routine (mwah mwaaaahhhhhh)

however

I’d be lying if I said I’ve never dropped the pedal and pushed it over 100, so color me hypocritical. I don’t have the most talented NFL skill set and millions of adoring fans though, so my life isn’t as important, haha

Getting Them Off the Road

Last Saturday nigtht, Adrian Peterson was clocked driving at 109 mph in a 60 mph speed zone, in Edina MN.

Friday night, Bernard Berrian, was clocked driving over 102 mph in a 60 mph speed zone, in Woodbury MN.

What they do not realize, is Minnesota Law states, any speeding ticket over 100 mph, revokes your driving licenses for 6 months.

The Curse of the Minnesota Vikings is alive and well.

Everyone we meet in life give us happiness, some by their arrival, others by their departure!
