Let's Break It Down....

I see two issues going on right now with our beloved Vikes.

In the last month, team play across the board has been poor. Dreadful defense, an up and down defense, and overall poor playing have cost the Vikes 3 out of the last 4. Inexcusable for a team with 8 pro bowlers that played so well for most of the season. Yes it's the coach's job to motivate but the players are just as much on the hook. One wonders if there are any real leaders in that locker room.

The other issues are more fundamental. First and foremost is a weak secondary, particularly in the safety area. This is *NOT* a new problem and goes back to the first games of the season when the Vikes were thrown on with impunity. The safeties are just not getting the job done and other teams have now figured this out. Les Frazier and Childress have just let this problem fester - either there should have been an early trade or Jamarca Sanford should have been brought in to bring some hitting and speed to the coverage. You can't get to the SB with substandard safeties.

And the next area of weakness is the offensive line, which just isn't performing like it should. The talent seems to be there but they just aren't opening the holes for AP like the should. As a result the running game suffers. Give the talent they have, good coaching should have been able to make this one of the best performing lines in the league. Which they ain't. Now teams have learned that if they stop Peterson, and force the vikes to be one dimensional, they can stop the passing game too.
