Good Lord, Not Again: Berrian ticketed for speeding.

From WCCO:

Earlier this week, Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson was cited for driving 109 miles per hour on a highway in suburban Minneapolis.

Now, another Vikings team member is accused of speeding well over the speed limit on a Twin Cities freeway.

The State Patrol says wide receiver Bernard Berrian was driving an Audi vehicle 104 miles per hour in a 60-mile-per-hour zone Monday night.

Berrian was pulled over on Interstate 694 in Oakdale. The trooper who pulled Berrian over said he was polite and cooperative, and apparently didn't even realize he was pulling over a Vikings player.

When asked to comment on the back-to-back Vikings citations, Capt. Matt Langer of the Minnesota State Patrol said, "It is a little bit odd, but on the other hand, I like the publicity about it, because it sort of tells people here are the ramifications, first of all. And you're going to get caught."

Wait a minute,

I’m getting a bit suspicious here. Do these troopers by any chance live across a river to the east?

I was reading a Cards forum

One of the rocket scientists wondered why AD didn’t have to go to jail since that’s what happens when you go that much over the limit wherever the hell he is in Arizona. I assume he thinks that traffic laws are federal.

by Salty on Dec 5, 2009 12:03 AM CST reply actions

Its like that here.

We are so used to seeing people get arrested for driving that fast that we assume anyone who does that should get arrested. A little traffic ticket seems like a slap on the wrist for reckless endangerment.

Keep in mind that there are a lot of traffic cameras around here, the law people really don’t like it when people speed around here.

And it is just another example of athletes getting off easy when they break the law. If any of us did that we would get arrested.

Forgot to mention

I think 20 mph over the speed limit is enough to get you arrested around here.

Oy Vey

Guess BB wanted to see if he had any speed left, though I think he mis understood the concept. Well, at least they aren’t renting any boats.

If he knew what he was doing he would of got caught going 110 mph. Just for bragging rights over AD.

Boats

Seems that this will never die.. Considering that most, if not ALL players involved in the fiasco are no longer on the team.

On the Yahoo blog or the Pioneer Press blog concerning AP’s speeding ticket. Someone made a comment about how this stuff happens in threes. Looks like we’ll just need someone else to get a 3rd speeding ticket to close that gap.

In MN however, going over 100 mph is equal to like a DUI. (Some say it is worse), but in my opinion, it’s not nearly as bad. It is bad, but not as bad, since I believe DUIs are more likely to end with a fatal outcome. People speeding over 100 do not do it consistently and are mostly unfortunate to get caught.

But with the weather however, this is something to consider a problem. Icey roads could lead to a bad outcome. Best be safe & buckle up & follow the speed limits from now on.

Equal to a DUI?

Not in punishment. You actually lose your license for a longer period of time with the 100 mph speeding than a first offense DUI in which you plead guilty (1 month loss for the DUI, 6 for the speeding). However, the DUI is much more costly, and sticks with you for longer if you happen to have a repeat offense.

Derrick Thomas

died from driving his stupid SUV too fast on the highway. He wasn’t trying to set a land speed record like these guys, but he was driving faster than the posted limit in snowy/icy conditions. I don’t know if other VIkings fans noticed all those tears that Marty Schottenheimer cried when DT was inducted into the Hall years after his death, but they were real, deserved, and a reflection of how many others felt. It doesn’t seem fair that such an otherwise great man will be partially remembered as a fatally idiot driver, but that’s the way it is.

Memo to AP, BB, and all other Vikings: STOP BEING SO IDIOTIC!!! YOU WILL HAVE PLENTY OF OPPORTUNITIES TO RUIN YOUR LIFE IN EXPENSIVE CARS LATER IN YOUR LIFE (SEE ALSO: JAMES BROWN), AND IF THAT STILL SEEMS LIKE A GOOD IDEA IN YOUR 40S, THEN DO IT ON A CLOSED TRACK WHERE YOU WON’T KILL ANYBODY ELSE. SKOL!!!

Supposed

to be innocent before guilty, which allows 21 days for a speedy trial,in MN auto liscense suspension if found guilty for 6 months. Here MT goes by point system believe1 point for every 10 miles over the speed limit up to 5 but then they kick in reckless driving which carrys 5 pts and a few other nice tidbits which gets you 1 yrs liscense suspension, they take DL give you paper drive on till court date.Only if your impaired, in such a way that Officer deems your impaired does cause Public endangerment an arrest will occur, most States they cant tow Vehicle if you pull onto private property, such as Walmart. But doesnt stop them from taking ya downtown.
Dont know about you all,but my younger years was filled with things I shouldnt have done, knew better but did them anyway.Bet there aint a person on ranks here that hasnt done something stupid in their life regardless of age, upbringing, or just having 1 of those days where everything goes wrong no matter what. And compounded the situation by just trying catch up and catch a break, but made it worse by sheer stupitity.
What gives me pause for Pride is(and havent found verifcation Beerian story yet) no one used their Status as an excuse.ya caught me,I owning up to wrong doing, give me my ticket.
It is what it is eh,a speeding Ticket, let the courts decide not the Media, but Believe Chilly will get his pound of flesh too.

Worse than the sex boat scandal

I know that Chilly and his staff and the ownership pride themselves on cleaning up the image and behavior of this team, but seriously, driving drunk and/or at 100+ MPH on the same road as a bunch of soccer moms actually endangers the lives of other Minnesotans, something which would not be true of hundreds of sex boat scandals.

by KC Viking on Dec 6, 2009 12:32 PM CST reply actions

I don't think its worse

I don’t think its as bad as DUI either.

by Salty on Dec 6, 2009 3:23 PM CST up reply actions

You don’t see how a sex boat scandal has the potential to kill nobody vs. DUI or 100+ MPH on the highway?

Over on the Cards blog

They’re still clucking like a bunch of 90 year old women. Athletes today! Someone could put an eye out!

They're making Viking jokes on the network morning show about this

These latest Vikings speeding tickets prompted them to say, out of the blue, that the new Vikings motto is that the line from that early Tom Cruise/Kelly McGillis movie, ‘Top Gun’;

“I feel the need, for speed!”

I didn’t think those idiots knew anything about football, let alone the Vikings… just goes to show that it doesn’t take the media long to hang a moniker on a team for any mistake it can find.

Ah, ah,
We come from the land of the ice and snow,
From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.
The hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new lands,
To fight the horde, singing and crying: Valhalla, I am coming!
SKOL!
