After EJ, Why keep Favre in?
Chili is out of his mind. that devasting injury to a player that some can argue should have already been pulled at that point. AZ was already in FG range with 6 minutes left. Henderson goes down and they are down 21 pts. he leaves Brett in the their, they get a TD late, so you figure an onside kick, when they kick the ball 20 yards down the field out of bounds. I dont know, maybe its just me.
hopefully this kid Brinkley can fill in nince for EJ, but this is a tough, tough loss for this team. they need the CBs back and start steppin it up.

to score a TD, that’s why. it was nice to see the TD to percy even after a gutwrenching game. if nothing else, it brought back a little confidence in the old man and the offense.

Agree. Sometimes you have to try and keep working through a crappy situation and regain some confidence in your competence.

brett has been in the league for almost 20 years, he can fight throiugh adversity. he’s a 40 oear old qb, had no business being in tha gma with a minute left. for a td, it didnt matter, what does chili have percy and brett on his fantasy team?

You have to fight through it as a team, not just Bret Favre. The whole team mentality that you fight through anything that comes your way, even if it’s a TD in “garbage time.”

If you think "the old man" loses confidence that easily & quickly
Then you don’t know much about Brett Favre :)

haha true. I think there is still something to be said for trying to grit the game out though.

If there is a sliver lining in all this
it’s that, if he needed it, Favre should be brought back to reality by this. He has been playing at an unreal level so much lately, that I think being reminded he can screw up might have done him some good, brought him back to earth.
By the way, kudos to the Card defense. Rushing 3 and dropping 8 was smart play for those circumstances (late game, big lead, don’t need to keep filling the box against the run). It’s been so long since Favre saw that kind of coverage — so long since he was way behind in a game — that he was probably rusty in dealing with it. This gave him some “practice.”

If you would have pulled Brett
Your team would be considered in the same catagory as the Pats giving up with over 5 min’s left against the Saints
Do you really think your coach would do that?
Do you really think your team would do that?

That’s true, but who really cares what people “consider” about our team.
If Favre goes down with an injury those same people that would “consider us in the same category” would blast Chilly for not pulling Favre after the game was out of reach.

Teammates
It’s a coaches decision but most starting QBs don’t want to come out of the game if they’re losing because they don’t want it to look like they’re quitting on their teammates.
It’s not like there are 11 scrubs sitting on the bench we can throw in to kill time before they can put a “L” in the box score. Trust me no one wants to be on the field when you’re being routed but since most players do need to be in there then the leaders need to stay in to set an example and earn those million$ putting on the show, even when they’re playing the part of the loser.
A good coach makes his team better, he doesn’t wait for a better team to make him look good.

I don't think there is any deep reason or meaning
We just got a good old fashioned ass kicking because we didn’t show up tonight. We have wayyyyyyyyyyyy too much talent to simply put the purple car on cruise controll this far out.

Agreed
As for Brinkley, the kid has what it takes to step up, from what I’ve seen. Not saying that E.J. won’t be missed, but Brinkley’s no slouch. Nor is Farwell, who made it a condition of his last contract that he get more time as a regular LB, not just an ST man. And let’s not forgot our newest LB Beast, Onatolu.
I was concerned about the front line. Seeing Load get taken out was worrisome, I knew we were in trouble with Herrera on the IR list going in. Fortunately Load was ok, and hopefully Herrera will be ready for Cincy.
The injuries to the secondary are more troubling to the team… we just don’t have the quality depth there, that we have in the rest of the D. If Winfield is ready next week, we’ll be seriously needing him.

What IS going on with Winfield?
It’s been like 2 months…
by mjmrad on Dec 7, 2009 11:51 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Winfield
Yeah, it seems like 2 months, but I checked; he was injured on Oct 18.
That makes it 7 weeks out of the game. Turf-toe is supposed to take 4-6 weeks to completely heal, so he needed some extra time, I guess. They say that if it doesn’t completely heal, it tends to come back again and again.

Winfield doesn’t have turf toe does he? I thought it was a leg issue

Winfield hurt his foot again in practice last week.

"Twisted his foot"
A sprained ankle is a lot easier to recover from than turf-toe, let’s hope this will be quick…

I'm sure Brinkley is a good player
But he is not going to be able to replace EJ in his role as defensive captain, making adjustment calls on the field. Period. Henderson’s role in doing that is as important as his individual playing ability.

They wanted to leave the game on a good note:
Because the only one came with that fumble than quick score!
