Remember the Arizona

When Pearl Harbor was attacked the USS Arizona was a sitting duck in the harbor of Hawaii.  The ship is now a floating monument.  Yet even though it was destroyed the memory was a rallying point for the US Navy throughout the Pacific battles during WWll.   Perhaps, Viking fans and the team can now realize that we can be attacked.  We have two choices.  Fight back or die.  From this point on in the season it will be scratching and clawing in the trenches.  Fighting hard to make difficult catches.  Concentrating on every play to avoid making the big mistake.  Just a week ago I posted about how battle-ready the Viking team seemed to be.  Well we were in our first battle.  Lets move forward to win the war.

"Remember Arizona"    is a war cry I would not mind having all of Viking Nation pick up and scream out for the rest of the season.

If we can get this level of emotional support....

Would be great….

Some fans I think were shell-shocked a lot from last night….

Hopefully now able to think rationally again and get behind our team….

Even to the point of supporting rivals like Green Bay to get us the best seed for the playoffs!

Oooof! Did I just say that?oooof….

Will bet watching the game tomorrow AM here…..as it should be this season is just warming up as always in December!

Cheers!

I would rather be IN the Arena than watching from the stands...That is my life!

"Fight back or die"?

Well it’s a helluva lot better than “I’m going to cry,” that someone posted last night, but our backs are not up against the wall here. We are 10-2 and very comfortably in the lead of the NFC North.

Skol!

Am I the only one

Who feels uncomfortable with any level of comparison of a game to Pearl Harbor and the the entombment of ~2000 men in a sunken ship? tT the point of making it a :’war cry" we repeat for the rest of the season?

Sorry to be a Debbie Downer, but … really, I just can’t bring myself to go there along with you. I’ve personally known people who were at Pearl Harbor on 12/7/41

I felt the same way, honestly.

Football =/= Pearl Harbor.

Yeah, I know, party pooper and all, but it just feels weird. Some things are more important.

This is why I spoke of emotion....

Always will support Vikes….The emotion I speak of above is just that….Not same degree nor circumstance….But I do understand what the point….

Real hard to get anyone to give that yell when the only team that beat them up this year is Arizona…..I doubt many would buy into this….

Plus disregards the possible mixed message between reality (serious stuff) and a game (I support the Vikes ’til the end but it IS a game)….

Clarification a bit....

Bottom line would rather use Man in the Arena analogy for any battle cry…think fits better….no mixed message…just IMO….

You should have used a visual reference. LOL

That's sad

Forget “Remember Arizona” but do remember Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona! WWII sacrifices > football

No,

You’re thinking of the “Indianapolis”.

As an Air Force vet

20 years and retired, I took no offense. It was a fine thought, bud.

Ah, ah,
We come from the land of the ice and snow,
From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.
The hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new lands,
To fight the horde, singing and crying: Valhalla, I am coming!
SKOL!

Hey, I know

I’m sorry if I came off too heavy. I think it kinda depends if you have some kind of connection to the event. My uncle’s neighbor was on a destroyer in the harbor, and told a few (no doubt very edited) stories when I was a kid, and my dad had two uncles (who he used to tell me stories about) die in the Pacific theater fighting the Japanese, so I do, sorta. One great uncle was a medic shot in the back by a sniper as he carried a stretcher. But if you had said “Remember the Maine!” (Spanish American War, 1898), I doubt I would have had the same reaction. So I can see how different people would react in different ways.

Maybe this analogy brings it home for more people: What if we play the Giants in week 2 of next season and both Williams get hurt. If someone said a good battle cry for the reast of the season might be “Remember the twin towers going down in Newe York!” we all would probably go “ewww” right?

No issue

Every time one posts, the risk is always out there to offend without malice. The fans on this site are quite respectful of each other and your posts are as well written and well meaning as the other numerous posters. I totally get your point.

I actually hate to rattle on further because we need to move on to beating Cincy this week. But just to demonstrate how one word can make a difference I want to point out that I took the word " the" out of the slogan to differentiate the two events. I thought the “word play” was clever enough ( clever is rarely my strong suit) to overcome the subject matter. Being it was Pearl Harbor Day ( December 7) and my Vikings had just been attacked I couldn’t resist. Anyway enough of this stuff. Lets figure outa way to beat Cincy.
