Facts
in my opinion, should be considered ahead of media hype and fan hype - both of which do nothing but agitate other fans - even fans of the same team. According to NFL.com stats, here's how Brett Favre stacks up against the top 5 QB's of the NFL. Oops, I'm sorry - even after a performance that had Vikes fans here calling for him to be benched and speculating of his impending late-season faceplant - he IS in the top 5 in all the NFL.
Other than being behind Manning in yardage (the 1st 3 games of the season, when passing was correctly made a small part of the offense- are the reason for this) Favre is standing on par with ALL of the QB's said to be the 'best of the best'. I'm really glad that the Vikings chose him and have loved watching it all come together very quickly to provide great football and lots of wins. I'm standing behind the whole team based on what they've done this year - not on any hype, negativity or pessimism spewed about it or it's players based on the past. Lots of great football ahead!

Of course you don't sit Favre
LIsten, I hate Favre more than any other player in the league (maybe a littl exaggerated) but I admit he’s playing like a top 5 QB this year. It was one freaking game, but I would definitely at least be a LITTLE concerned. He hasn’t held up greaet in years past
E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!
Most important phrase from post....
Are you standing “Behind the whole team” and yep I am….
They will pull it together….
The fans will too…
W next Sunday solves all (until the next week!)…
SKOL!
I would rather be IN the Arena than watching from the stands...That is my life!

I was the 15th Vote.......
and at this time it was 100% behind the team……………………
of course!!!!!!
Anyone who votes otherwise is either brain dead or a troll!
Not a Chilly fan
Extension was too soon.. We did not go deep enuff to keep AZ defense honest. Chilly is too conservative play caller and showed again last nite.. One series, we ran 3 plays and out, with 3rd down a draw to Taylor on 3rd and 8. Always behind the team…but again not Chilly fan…Hopefully last nites game will be wake up call !!!!
No longer behind the qb should not even be an option. Favre’s a top 3 qb this year, and along with the entire rest of the team, (with the possible exception Harvin) had 1 horrible game.
I thought
Havrin had a heck of a game considering everything else going on
I have little faith in Childress
For 25 years now I’ve had unwavering support for the team, but I think very little of our head coach. I’ve always thought his decision making was suspect and I have no faith in him making the right calls. In a close game, I trust that Favre can get it done – lord knows he did it a billion times when I didn’t want him to, I trust AP to get the yards, and our defense to make the stop, but I’ve just seen too many instances where Chilly looked overmatched and out thought. That said, I’d love for him to prove me wrong and I’ll gladly eat these words if the Vikes win it all, but if it comes down to coaching, I have very little faith that Childress can outthink Payton, Wisenhunt, Tomlin, or Bellichik.
Needless to say, I think the contract extension was premature. It’s hard to argue with the fact that the team record is better every year Chilly’s been here, but the personnel has improved each year too. I have nothing to base this on other than a few decades of watching football and a gut feeling, but I think the game moves too quick for Childress. He doesn’t seem to think plays, series, or possessions ahead of the opposition like the top tier coaches seem to.

nice post
I totally agree Hector. Chilly seems to just not have “it” when it comes to coaching. i think thats most of the reason why, over his tenure with the Vikes, the team hasnt been able to really destroy good teams or win the big, high profile games. Chilly is good when were playing the Lions or the Bears. When it comes to beating a well coached team our guys in purple are handicapped.
Bud Grant’s teams won alot of games because Bud knew what worked, & stuck with it. Bud didnt game plan very well (see the Superbowls) when he wasnt familiar with his opponent, but thats fodder for another post. I still contend that our coaching staff (offensively) is pretty average.
One small point I’d like to make. Without Fav’ray in the picture we may have gotten’ handled by the Packers already & this division would still be wide open. I think the revenge factor for Bart has made us get a little ahead of ourselves as far as thinking this team is a Superbowl contender. You cant get your arss handed to you like the Vikes did this past sunday night & still believe that you’ll waltz through the playoffs & win a Superbowl. Can it happen? yes. Will it….
no one knows now. Chilly is a monkey & gets confused too easily. That just does NOT bode well for our team.
Benching him?
I didn’t really follow the game threads, but was anyone seriously talking about benching Favre? I saw people talk about taking him out of the game in the 4th quarter because it was out of hand at that point (which I disagree with). But that was just in the interest of keeping him healthy, not as a punishment, like benching is thought of.
Some people like to howl at the moon after a tough loss, give them a couple days and they settle down. I don’t think anyone that likes the team enough to follow this blog is really as worried about Favre as you make them out to be.
On the other hand we’re all worried for EJ and his family. That’s the only thing we should be really emotional about.
A good coach makes his team better, he doesn’t wait for a better team to make him look good.
You may be right -
I have always heard that called things like ‘saving’, ‘resting’, or ‘protecting’ a player. Benching was always a term about sending a message, disciple, etc. You said quite a lot I agree with, dwarg. Very early in the 4th was too soon to consider sitting Favre. May God help EJ and his family through this crisis.
I think Chilly has gotten this group pretty far up the road this year. He takes the heat if they aren’t – so I have to give him his due for this success. I think he’[s been good at putting the act together. He has one great cast to work with as well. Where I think he could use more thought is in playcalling (especially adjusting it when things don’t work a bit more quickly) quick slants and the like w/ speedsters like Harvin and Berrian may have worked better than 20 yards upfield with Favre under pressuer and noone open enough.
The other coaching issue is the pass defense – I see as much lack of success from LB’s as I do from the secondary. I absolutely think Winfield is a part of the answer, but I’m seeing guys just run after the receiver and not even look for the ball. Frazier has his work cut out figuring the mess that is pass coverage out. It does seem they have 1 approach – if it works, great. If not, offense better score more than the opponent.
There have been alot of good insights made to this fanpost. It’s fun getting to see things through other fan’s views. Thanks all – Shep
After last night's Packer's game,
various broadcasters were falling all over themselves in their efforts to praise Rodgers. He’s a good QB, and he deserves the recognition. What was interesting though was this:
Take away one TD pass last night, and statistically his game is almost a mirror image of Favre’s on Sunday, which of course was a sign of the apocalypse. What that really demonstrates is what an incredibly high level Favre has been playing at this year – when he has a mediocre game (which is what that was), it’s regarded as major failure.
Still supporting the whole team. I hope our defensive backfield gets healthy and I really hope the O-line is ok, but those are my only concerns at the moment.
alot of negativity
I see that 78% of the votes were for standing behind the whole team. Yet, there are way to many bash chilly statements. Really, He is a key reason Favre is here. He flew down and persoanlly met with harvin, the unchallenged ROTY. He drafted AP. He assembled a team that was a mess when Tice was at the Helm. Yet, because he is soft spoken and conservative, in his public speaking, and we lost 1 real game(not counting pitts) because of poor performance. I thought the team looked horrible, and no matter what play you called, it was a horrible collective effort all around…..I think we have a awesome team that is fun to watch. Lets not let 1 wake up call, challange our belief in this team…….We are going to Miami, and Chilly is Leading us there!!!!

well, kind of
If and/or when the Vikes reach Miami for this season’s Superbowl I can tell you it wont be on Chilly’s back. It will be on Harvin/Fav’ray/AD/JAllen/Rice/Shank/KWill/PWill/Greenway/Leber, etc’s back. This team is all about raw talent, not coaching. Frazier? Ok. Chilly? Not.
BENCH BRETT FAVRE!
Nah not really, actually I’m not sure what to do, after a loss you usuallly lambast your players with conditioning and harangues. However, our line is so beat up I think you might want to let them ease up a bit in practice this week. But please continue the yelling. :)
By all means...
What is a Vikings season without the hand-wringing, heart palpitating, throwing stuff at your TV, and scaring the pets commotion? We’ve become soft with all this winning!
Sunday night was not a very good outing for the team… but I’ve seen seasons where that kind of play got us excited!
WOOHOO!! we scored two touchdowns against the Cardinals!! WOOHOO!!
Let’s go get the Bengals and win!!
GO VIKES!!
I BELIEVE...

You don't change horses in mid-stream
When you’re at war, you have a responsibility to be much more careful and circumspect if you’re going to criticize the military. You stand behind them, good or bad, because they’re out there taking the hit for you. When the war is over you can complain all you want about how things were done, but you still stand behind the guys who fought for you.
During the season, I think the same principle applies (don’t anyone be an ass and think that I’m equating life and death war, with a sports game). You stand by your team, good or bad, you support them if you’re a fan. This is what defines a real fan, it’s not enough to cheer on the warm sunny days. The guys who are there when it’s bleak and raining are the ones you want you want to hoist a beer with. When the season is over, that’s when it’s time to dissect things, and get busy with the hirings and firings.
I agree that an extension for Chilly was too early, but he’s here and we’re in the midst of the season (the WHOLE season, not just “regular season”). There’s no way that switching to a different coach or QB at this time, could possibly improve things, and a thousand ways in which either would make the situation much worse.
You work with what you have, and what the Vikings have this year is pretty darned impressive. But they’re only human, they’re going to have a bad game, and hopefully ours is done and out of the way.
Ah, ah,

The problem with Chilly
has been how he has handled the QB situation from the start. He took a chance on drafting Jackson, then completely botched the entire situation. I certainly can’t that T-jack would be a quality NFL starter right now otherwise, but Childress did him almost no favors. Jackson had to play in 2006; we ran out of QBs. But to play him in 2007 and 2008 was ludicrous. Some quarterbacks are ready to play right away, and some need to sit and learn and get used to the NFL. Jackson certainly falls into the latter category. More should have been done to keep Jackson on the bench and learning, instead of on the field in high-pressure situations with his confidence being beaten to a pulp.
Childress made the bold decision to make T-jack the man…and then completely hand-cuffed the offense by not allowing Jackson any control, and not call the game as if he had a decent QB. Sure, you can tell me that Jackson is incapable of running a full-throttle offense. So sit him down! What is the point of naming him the starter if you aren’t going to let him do anything. You CANNOT hide your quarterback.
It is nice that we are 10-2, but very soon we are going to be back at square one without Favre. Childress is a flip-flopper. Name Jackson the starter, give him no chance to succeed, then immediately put in Gus Frerotte. Frerotte gets hurt, Jackson plays one good game, never give Frerotte another chance. Tell Favre he has to decide…then give him a few more days…then a few more…then give him a deadline…then say it is over. Then sign him. Weak. Thanks for handing the team over to the Vikings biggest rival EVER, just so we can have an ‘exciting’ season and win a couple more games. That’s right folks, I’m still not over it. Give me a 7-5 team with T-Jack over any team with Brent any day! If being a fan of a team were simply about Wins and Losses, than would mean most people would be miserable almost all of the time.
It's not just about Ws and Ls
It’s about the team. And Brett Favre is part of the team now, and he’s proved himself both on the field and in mentoring.
T-Jack may very well turn out to be the QB of the future. When I saw him take the field the last couple weeks before the Cards game, he looked remarkably Favre-like. The young grasshopper is learning from the master :)

I wish
I could be so accepting and graceful about the situation. I think I need Vikings counseling.
Thing is
all the guys who WEAR the purple are very happy w/ him on THEIR team. Since their team is somehow ‘your’ team, maybe a call to 1800 CrazyVikesFan is in order. LOL – Shep
