Packers Making a Comeback

No offense to my fellow vikings fans but  after watching the MNF game and then theespn lovefest of Aaron rodgers

(made me sick) and the green bay packers

I am starting to believe that Packer are once again becoming a threat not only in the playoffs but  to the NFC north

Divison Title. Their defense is much improved and thier protecting Aaron Rodgers a hell of alot better than the did

first 8 games. this team for some reason is looking real legit to me and they might come back and bite us in the

playoffs. the vikings better figure out their issues or we could be in trouble.

by the way this is just my opinion I am a 100% vikings fan so please dont call me a traitor or a fairweather fan.

We won’t threaten you guys in the NFC North. I believe for us to win it we would have to win out and you would have to lose out. I guess anything is possible, but the chances are awfully slim.

Our defense finally seems to be coming around and it’s really exciting to see. It’s nice to have our offense be the problem as opposed to our defense for once. And who knows if our o-line can continue to block for Rodgers maybe we will be able to make a nice little playoff run…

P.S.- The Rodgers lovefest still wasn’t worse then the Favre lovefest. Though that should be expected.

by packallday555 on Dec 8, 2009 12:36 AM CST reply actions

no te Rodgers lovefest is just as bad

everytheing he does they fall in love with. I thought Steve Young was going to ask Aaron to marry him!

by Vikant on Dec 8, 2009 12:40 AM CST up reply actions

Aaron Rodgers is Steve Young 2.0 that is why

But nothing could equal a Favre lovefest sorry. Packallday is wrong on one thing though-we’d have to win out but the vikings only would have to lose three of their remaining four. Take care of business against Carolina and Chicago and you’ll be fine unless the Cards win out and take your bye. I could see you being forced to cheer for the Pack in the last week of the season against the Cards considering who the next three opponents for Arizona are: San Fran, St. Louis and Detroit. So you better not lose to both the Bengals and Giants then. Packers are very good but Vikes pretty much have the division sewn up. Stay away from that panic button.

God

Think about how bad it is that we lost to Tampa Bay now…damnit.

by packallday555 on Dec 8, 2009 1:20 AM CST up reply actions

Yeah,

That was definitely a low point for the Pack. I still remember Dungy’s first win as a head coach at Tampa. I think Green’s Vikings were like 6 or 7 and 0 at the time. I think I said “Damn it”!

by packallday555 on Dec 8, 2009 10:23 AM CST up reply actions

Did you even WATCH the game?!

What I saw was the very same (but slightly improved) young team that we have already beaten twice. The Pack are definitely a talented improving team, but aside from their O-line, I thought they played worse last night than they did when we last played them.

by Jshore on Dec 8, 2009 5:56 AM CST reply actions

Lots of penalties and 2 bad turnovers (plus one incredibly fluky one)....

… so you’re partially correct. But, the refs got flag-happy on the pass interference penalties. They called 9 total for the game when it probably should have been 3-4 with just 2 going against GB. If the game hadn’t been called the way it was, the margin of victory would have been wider and GB’s penalty yardage would have been cut in half. Their DT has improved dramatically even down two former pro-bowlers. No one’s been able to run on them in several weeks.

It was a sloppy game. They’re not a great team by any stretch, but with that defense and Rodgers, they’re dangerous if they make the playoffs.

What begins in fear usually ends in folly.

by Ted Simmons Speed Camp on Dec 8, 2009 7:16 AM CST up reply actions

O-line

The o-line is probably the main reason we lost to you guys both guys. If the o-line continues to be solid for Rodgers and our defense continue to play as well as it has who knows…

The refs got a little PI happy and a lot of those PI calls were not penalties, including some called against the Ravens.

We absolutely did not play worse last night then we did against you guys.

by packallday555 on Dec 8, 2009 10:27 AM CST up reply actions

Being Packer fans you may see marginal gains

that I didn’t notice. Personally, I think you played a much better game against Dallas, and last night Baltimore out-sloppied you for the loss. It simply wasn’t a strong COMPLETE effort by either team (ok, Clay Mathews is a stud). I guess my original point was simply that last night’s game was no message to the league that the Packers are on the rise… again, the Dallas game to me was a better showing.

by Jshore on Dec 8, 2009 3:20 PM CST up reply actions

I wouldn’t disagree that the Dallas game wasn’t a better showing but we also didn’t have 2 fluky TOs against the Cowboys which ended up hurting our defense. Up until the 3rd quarter it was easily the best game we had played so far, and we continued that trend in the 4th quarter.

by packallday555 on Dec 8, 2009 4:33 PM CST up reply actions

Let's see....

Whether they get in or not will depend on them…

If they can make it more power to them…..

Barring a total collapse on Vikings part though…

Do not see GB taking the division….

Regarding playoffs…

Think from what I could “see” (remember only graphically and stats from here unluckily)…

Vikings can beat them one more time this year…

No issue….

I WOULD rather play against GB than the Eagles in the playoffs….

IF it came to that point….

More predictable game….

Just my opinion….

I would rather be IN the Arena than watching from the stands...That is my life!

Eagles are dangerous

but c’mon, they’re aren’t that good. They’re either big play or no play, without a running game in between. Packers are the better team all around, I think you’d realize that if you saw the Eagles more often.

But they do beat us

Don’t know why but Andy Reid seems to have our number in the play offs..

Congrats on turning your season around though GB. I’m always happy to see the NFC north doing well. (Well not as well as we are of course…)

by Grime on Dec 8, 2009 12:12 PM CST up reply actions

It’s not so much the probability of the Packers beating us in the playoffs as it is the massive ramifications of that happening. Should that happen (blessed Mary, mother of Christ, send your spirit) it would be the single worst feeling I have ever felt as a Vikings fan. Yes, even bigger than ‘98, bigger than 41-0, and bigger than Nathan Poole. I just honestly don’t think I could go on.

by Jayrome007 on Dec 8, 2009 10:07 AM CST reply actions

I agree, losing to the Packers in the playoffs would be the worst thing EVER

(especially this year)
That’s why I don’t want to play them again. I wanna play anybody other than the Packers.

by chaosg on Dec 8, 2009 7:13 PM CST up reply actions

Agreed

Can we beat them again? Absolutely. Is it likely that we will beat them again? Probably. But I don’t want to risk it, even with great odds. Give me a higher chance to lose to the Cardinals than a greater chance to win verses the Packers. I know it sounds ridiculous, but I just don’t want to play with that kind of emotional explosives.

by Jayrome007 on Dec 8, 2009 8:01 PM CST up reply actions

Losing to the Packers, in the playoffs...

with Favre as the Vikings quarterback? It would be like Staubach throwing a Hail Mary TD pass to Nate Poole, and then Morten Andersen kicking a 45 yard extra point.

In overtime.

Yeah, it just doesn’t seem likely. Maybe if you guys lose this week to the Bengals and in week 17 to the Giants we can consider this a bit more but even if that were to happen I don’t see how you lose to the Bears or Panthers.

This is where our Tampa Bay loss becomes so huge. If we were 9-3 right now, and only 2 games back then I would say there is a possibilty. But at 8-4, it just seems like too much of a longshot.

R U SERIOUS????

I may be getting old, 36 , but where we watching the same game? Of was I watching a replay on ESPN CLassic…..What I saw , was the most sloppy game in years, horrible decisions on both sides of the ball. Horrible decisions from a YOUNG Flacco, and the Packers would have been eaten up by a Viking team, superior on all sides of the Ball. I have seen 2 games this year between the Beloved Purple and the Pack, and a 3rd game, would and should be invited. If you are at all comparing your squad to the fluky sunday nite squad, you are sadly mistaken. If and only if the packers get a chance to play the vikings in the postseason………you will be severely disappointed……good luck~

I should have added another sentence or two to my post.

Namely, I should have said that one bad weekend for the Vikings and a few decent performances.by the Packers does not equal Epic Viking Collapse. In two weeks we’ll know whether we need to be looking over our shoulder at Green Bay. Like you, I think in two weeks the NFC North will be wrapped up. If not, then it’ll be time to worry about the Packers.

Football is like life.
It’s pain, struggle, setback, blood, sweat, tears… punctuated with moments of astonishment, joy, and victory – rinse, repeat. It is NOT a 16-0 season, undefeated to the playoffs and a super-bowl win. (see Tiger Woods)

2 losses is no reason to go off the deep end and lose hope. Losing out (God forbid) the next 4 games is also no reason to lament your team. Get up. Regroup. And fight like hell another week. That is the way of the football warrior.

I’ve witnessed 3 of 4 Vikings Superbowl losses… when I was 18, the team was coached by Les Steckel and Good Lord – we STANK! but there was always (some)hope on Sunday.

In VIkant's defense

This is not the same Packer team that got slapped around by the VIkings and then lost to the Jolly Roger-clad Buccaneers. They have a sound defense, and they actually look better since Kampmann and Al Harris were lost for the season, hard as that seems to believe. Clay Matthews looks like the real deal, and Charles Woodson is pushing JA for NFC defensive player of the year. Rodgers is having a good great year, Donald Driver is ageless, and they have corrected their protection issues. They seem to be peaking at the right time, and it’s damn tough to beat a good team three times in one season. Ask the 2004 Packers about trying to beat the VIkings three times in one season.

HOWEVER…

This is still a very flawed Packer team, and their issues were on full display last night. Pass protection is better, but their running game is still average, at best. Rodgers still holds on to the ball waaaaay too long, and a team with a better pass rushing front (ahem, ahem) would make him pay. They shoot themselves in the foot with penalties, and still drop a lot of passes. Had Baltimore played just above incompetent, they would have won that game.

It’s not that I would dismiss the Packers as a worthy post-season opponent, but even though GB has won four straight and the VIkes just got bitch slapped by the Cardinals, I still think the Vikings win a playoff game at home (like Favre wouldn’t be REALLY jacked for that game) against the Packers.

And no, there’s no way I see the VIkes losing the division to the Pack at this point. Too few games and too much ground to make up for the Packers.

Hope all get my point here....

I could have added a BUNCH more numbers like 28, 29, 69, etc. This team is not the same as some of the previous teams we have had….

I have no idea if they will go all the way, but I damn sure am here to support them in their quest! I do realize there are areas that need addressing….but what team is not in the same situation…..

We have every chance of going all the way as every team has at this point…and we are 10-2….Do you realize what it takes to get to that W/L standing?? That with 1/4 of the season remaining??

Based on our talented squad, I have every reason to believe they will make a legitimate run for it all….

Remember this is the most important 1/4…..It will set the tone for the playoffs…..If we have a hope of getting futher than 1 game in those playoffs, it is because the team will address now their weak areas…..

Let’s wait for Sunday and see….

Too many doomsayers….

Just don’t see that….

Hey, I'm with you

Even after the loss to Arizona, this team looks, feels, and plays…different…than any Vikings team I’ve watched since 1998, and before that the 1970’s. The only wildcard to this is how they bounce back from EJ’s injury.

I think they have the mental toughness to do that, and they also have the talent to do so.

It’ll be a fun couple of months.

The Pack is hard to figure out

They’re winning … heck they’re 8-2 outside of the Vikings games. So they clearly are a capable team. But they never have a stretch of more than say a quarter at most where you go “ooh, ahh.” They are making a bazillion mistakes, I think they are top two in the league in penalties, and sometimes Rodgers throws into coverage instead of wide open receivers (yeah, Favre did that sometimes too, but not as much as I’m seeing Rodgers do this year. And Rodgers threw a pick early in yesterday’s game that would have earned a REAMING from some of the Favre haters if it had been him, it was a really ill advised and bad throw).

The game last night was almost as difficult to enjoy as their previous game, the absolutely FUGLY win over the Cowboys on Thanksgiving. Had 18 people over to my house for Thanksgiving, we watched that game before sitting down to eat & it’s a miracle some of us didn’t lose our appetite.

But, yet, they won them both … kind of like Vikings first two games of the season (maybe more ugly, but on the other hand against better teams).
