2nd Anniversary of my accident/Non football/FF Playoff reminder

Today is the second year of my devasting accident. Things change but not my passion for The Purple. I think more on what I want to do special and have some goals. I would like to get down to Miami if the Vikings make the Super Bowl.

Yesterday a idiot driver passed my car as I waited for a lady who was waiting to make left turn. Barely missing an oncoming car he hit a kids dog that was walking across the road. The poor thing layed there suffering terribly. Not knowing what I had went thru the lady had a pistol and asked me if I would do it. Of all the times! But if you saw what I did you knew what you had to do. I love dogs but it also brought tears to my eyes as I pictured me laying in a road bleeding to death 2 years earlier. Very sad. But it gave me a reminder time is short and keep my goals close to heart and keep volunteering little things. I am helping with a youth basketball league and hope to start a flag football league for kids who can't afford or get to play in youth leagues. Our church is supportive. I will be planning on working at a rehab center in Minn this Spring and summer. I will send details if any wish to donate and help. That is not my purpose now.

I want to thank DNers once again for keeping me company as I recovered and caught up with Viking news afte coming out of my coma and getting into a whellchair to play on a computer. What a joy it was to learn about the Daily Norseman and make new friends. It really helped me thru some painful and lonely times. Thanks to everyone.

I have also had fun doing the fantasy leages and have to remind our players we are now entering the playoff weeks.

I will keep you guys posted on our DN competitors and the out come.

Wow

That’s an amazing story. And it sounds like your making something out of your adversity. Keep us posted on that football league if it gets off the ground and thanks for sharing.

A good coach makes his team better, he doesn’t wait for a better team to make him look good.

I'm a newer memeber here, so I'm unfamiliar with your story.

Did you get hit by a car a couple years ago?

Sorry to hear that you had to put the dog out of it’s misery, but it sounds like you did the right thing. As a dog owner, I would have troubles putting my dog to rest, so I admire your courage with helping that lady do that. I think most people would have just driven away and left her alone. That reminds me, did the driver even stop after he hit the dog?

I also had no idea of this background

I suspect it’s true of a lot of people. I recall reading Gonzo saying at some point that there was hardly anyone else here two years ago.

Good luck to you, and I wish you a continued recovery.

The old guys do

bu tthat is OK. I was driving to see a friend and of all things 3 deer crossed in front of me. I swerved to avoid them and the wheel caught a soft shoulder. The truck flipped and I got thrown out. Massive internal injuries , broken spine and pelvis, ribs legs. Was given no chance of living.
God was good.

Sounds real bad….glad you are still with us…..hope getting better all the time…..

Let’s enjoy the season, week by week….

Your experience does remind us all yet again that we should not take this football stuff toooooooo serious…..

Lots more important things in life!

Thanks for sharing…..

I would rather be IN the Arena than watching from the stands...That is my life!

Glad you're still with us!

While I knew you had an accident, did not know the extent of how bad until now. Glad someone was watching over you and the best of wishes in your continued recovery. I couldnt imagine how you felt doing that for the woman, but at least the little guy is in a better place. Just had to give mine a big hug after reading this as I look at him as my kid. He will be 3 in April and named him “Boba” after Boba Fett from the Star Wars series. Big fan and if some of you have seen my profile pic, that’s the replica lightsaber I own. When the time comes, post the info and I’ll be more then happy to send a few bucks your way!

And with that, Merry Christmas to all from Boba and I!

How cute!

I wish I could download a picture of my Kibbles going for scooter rides with me. How do you get the pics on here.
It is amazing how close you can get to your dog.
When I 1st xame home after 4 months, she ran up to me in the wheelchair and stopped as if to say “where have you been?” She realized something was wring and saw my skin graft on my leg, gently licked it and put her head on my lap.
No one could come in the house without her standing in front of me as if to say “you better be good to him”
Folks think I am nuts, but I believe God has a special place for them to be with us when our days are done.
I’m also hoping he lets all us football fans put our teams dream teams together and have games eveyday. Perfect place, so no injuries-why not. :-)
I hope you and Boba have a great Chritmas. Do me a favor. This may not be manly but I do it every night. Give him a hug and kiss on the nose from me. Mine expects it every night..
I just pray some little kid isn’t missing his companion tonite. Kind of glad I don’t know but I think about it.

I have that pic

on my myspace page, tho I rarely use it. Also I have in on photobucket. You can post your pic on there then copy the url to here. Thats how I did it here. That pic is from 2007, his 1st Christmas with me. Need to make a new pic, but the tree you see there finally had 3 strings crap out on me this year. Time to get a new one. Looking at LED this time. Some of the better ones are just plain wicked looking! lol

Thank you...

Thanks AZ

You still get a good contingent of Vikes fans there?
Our little club is growing. We are planning on a a caravan to NO if the Vikes have to play there. About a 12 hour drive so we hope it comes together.
Merry Christmas

Lots of purple at the game on Sunday!

Doesn’t seem to be a formally organized ‘fan club’ here anymore though.
Not sure if the volume is transient (snowbirds) or local – would be interested to know.

I sincerely hope you get to have your caravan to NO… and, I suppose, a shorter trip to the final game!

GO VIKES!!

I BELIEVE...

Went to Minny lasr Christmas

Got to see 2 games! I was with my bud, Carl. We had this wheelchair area for the Falcons game all to ourselves. I just started geting tears in my eyes and he thought maybe it was too much for me. I said “Oh no! I just never envisioned ever seeing a vikings game in person again,”
One of the best scenios I was given was that I would be in a nursing home the rest of my life.
You can’t imagine how you have to fight inside. Some advice I give to folks came from a Phy therapist who was just finishing u[ her studies. She was a cute older gal who decided to finish school since her kids were out of the nest, She knew I love getting my back scratched and woke me up each morning with that gentle touch to get me ready for some painful therapy, But she kept my spirits up.
(Long story- sorry.) Still not knowing what my future held I asked 2 doctors if I would ever walk again. The sorry dead heads just looked at each other and said nothing. I broke into tears as i wanted to give up. Terry, the PT told me " I know you. I see something they don’t and I shouldn’t say this , bu tI know you will walk" Wel, it is hard and I use a scooter but on good days can wobble about the yard or walk the dog to the end of the street. I coulld play The Penguin in the next Batman sequel
The moral- Don’t tell people everything will be OK. Thats nice and all. But when you have no other words, tell folks to hang in there and that YOU belive in them. It is sometimes hard to believe in yourself at such times. But when someone tells you that they believe in you when you have doubts, it does something. When it is sincere, it puts a fire under you. Almost like you don’t want to let that person down,
I have tried to find that lady. I want to tell her how much she meant. I heard she is in Ocala which is close. So I may have to make some calls but that would be a Christmas wish for me. To give her a hug of thanks and invite her to our Christmas bash.
Thanks for letting me share.
May your families experience many Christmas bleesing this season.
