Uh oh....

Found this on rotoworld

Vikings coach Brad Childress said Friday that Gus Frerotte will compete for the starting quarterback job with Tarvaris Jackson if Frerotte returns for another season.

This again? Childress is reprising Lovie Smith's Groundhog Day routine where he wakes up every year with the same sad sack quarterback holding a contending team hostage. Though Childress isn't ruling out Jackson as next year's starter, we're hoping he comes to his senses in the next couple of months

Star-divide

Please! Not again!  They NEED to cut Frerotte, he has no business as an NFL QB any more and we could have Garcia for a few more bucs(pun intended).

I’m hoping this is a smokescreen, but. . . Honestly, it wouldn’t suprise me if Childress was being completely sincere about this, because his thinking is that Jackson and Frerotte took us to the playoffs last season, so they’ll end up doing it again this season.

Alternatives

We’ve beaten every bush we can find to scare up a good alternative at QB to what the Vikes have now, and the best option that’s come up is the greybeard; Garcia. Not because he’s the key to the future, but because he might hold the line for another year until a better option can be found.

Fact is, franchise QBs don’t grow on trees, and with this years FA and draft so sparse for good QBs, all the wells are either running dry or being closely guarded. There are no good choices openly available to the Vikes this year.

I’m hoping that Speilman is working some sort of quiet deal with another team to relieve them of a QB cap issue, but even then it’s not like we’ll get #1. #2, more likely. And next year isn’t going to be any better… because the Vikes will likely get to the playoffs again, and again, rate a #22 position draft pick, which doesn’t get them a top rated QB.

Who knows, maybe for T-Jack, 2009 will be the year that everything clicks together and he starts firing on all cylinders. The Vikings have made too much of an investment in him to give up easily now.

Viking's QB dilemma

Are we seriously offering Sage Rosenfels a 3 year $9 million dollar extension if this god awful trade goes through? Oh, I would be sooooo thrilled that the Viking’s pissed away another draft pick to sign a younger Gus Ferotte! Would it take that much more $$$ to sign Jeff Garcia for the next 2 or 3 years and allow Tavaris to sit on the bench and LEARN the NFL game? Rosen-backup makes about as much sense as the other 16 backup QB’s that Chili has brought in during his reign of mediocrity!
