Vikings free agency continues to stay internal...
Vikings have re-signed Jimmy Kennedy. Whoopdie freakin' doo.
The Minnesota Vikings announced today that they have re-signed defensive tackle Jimmy Kennedy.
Terms were not disclosed.
Kennedy was signed by the Vikings on December 3 and appeared in the final two regular-season games against the Atlanta Falcons and the New York Giants as well as playing in a playoff game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Kennedy has 164 tackles and five sacks in 64 career games.
An All-American selection at Penn State, Kennedy was drafted in the first round by the St. Louis Rams in the 2003 draft.
With the Rams, he started 30 games in four years prior to stints with the Chicago Bears and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
I say whoopdie doo, but this does help shore up our DT depth in the event of the still-looming Willams Wall suspension. However, I'm fairly certain anybody could come in here and provide as much help to the defense as Kennedy.

V-I-K-I-N-G-S! Skol Vikings, Let's Go!!
I like this signing
Kennedy was a 1st round pick. He has some skills Karl Dunbar can work with, and it should do him good to sit behind “The Wall” for a couple years. Good depth

He is a body and if his draft selection is any indicating of his ability, he is a serviceable pro. The Vikings aren’t looking to bring in starting caliber DT’s who would require starting money. They have a pro bowl starting tandem and only need support – good move!
If he was so servicable, I doubt the Rams, Bears, AND Jags would have let him go. Obviously he isn’t terrible because we still held rushing games in check during Pat’s injury, but I doubt that if he were to be redrafted he’d go in the first few rounds.

Could all these internal signings signify that the Vikes are gonna take the best player available in the draft.
I know everyone is frustrated
But look at what is out there. The best players in free agency are all gone. Nahmdi Asamogha, Julius Peppers, Jordan Gross, T.J. Houshbag-mandzadeh, Jason Brown, Kerry Kollins, Kurt Warner, Matt Birk, Mike Goff, Marvel Smith, Albert Haynesworth, Ray Lewis, Bart Scott, Jermaine phillips and Brian dawkins. All of those guys were either resigned, franchise or signed by other teams. There is not much out there. And the front office knows it. The main Targets for the team were Gross, Houshbag and Vernon Carey. All of which are gone.
I think the front office is being smart about what they do. The best players left are either over the hill or not worth plugging in for a year. The vikes look like they are going to resort to the draft and see what they have to do to fill positions after.
P.S. I dont think guyse like Jimmy Kennedy and Benny Sapp will make the roster if we draft or have the chance to pick someone up in the later parts of F.A.
Remember...
…the Williams Wall isn’t out of the woods yet with the ridiculous StarCaps case. If the NFL somehow wins and they are suspended for four games, Kennedy will come in handy.
If the Vikings keep this up, I won’t need to buy Madden 2010, because we’ll basically have the exact same roster as Madden 09! :)

Safe move
Kennedy probly won’t ever live up to his potential that he was drafted at but if he can stay healthy (which has been his problem his whole career) he still does have some upside and learning from the Williams Wall will benefit him greatly.I think it’s a smart move gives more freedom on draft day. One “old guy” I wouldn’t mind seeing in Purple is Jason Taylor.
Jason Taylor...
… would be awesome in purple and gold. The Vikings have the cap room to sign him to a 2 year, 15 million deal. That would be awesome. Who would the O-Line double team? they can only choose 1 person on the D-Line to double, leaving the other 3 singled up. Gives me goosebumps!

I don’t know, Taylor really didn’t do much last season at all. I think he had 3.5 sacks total, and 2 of those came against Cinncinati. I nabbed him on Madden, and it payed out well, but I doubt it’ll do so great in the actual game. I think we’d get better pressure with Robison in than Taylor.
he was banged up a little bit last year
and the Redskin’s D-Line is nothing to brag about. Taylor was double and triple teamed almost every play last year. I was rather disappointed in Ray Edwards last year… I feel like anyone playing along side the Williams wall and JA would get better pressure than he got. Jason Taylor was defensive player of the year a couple years ago, and he knows how to beat single blockers, something Edwards obviously doesn’t know how to do. I think Taylor still has a year or two left in him, and I would love to see him in Purple and gold next year
