Rolle hits the market, along with Holt
In addition to a RT (either Shaffer or Pace would be nice) and and WR (Holt?), I think we can absolutely get stronger at CB in the FA market this offseason. And, we wouldn't have to trade away any picks. I was a big critic of Griffin last year, becoming more moderate toward the last three games, when he showed improvement. But, our secondary is unquestionably weak. Line Rolle up on the other side of Winfield and I think we instantly become a robust defense. With our cap room, we could go after all three of these positions, adding immediate quality. And use the draft to add youth, which will take a couple of years to develop.

Rolle was cut for a reason
He is 32, and has been hampered by injuries for the last couple of years. Here is ESPN’s take on Samari Rolle:
Grade: 62 | Key
Alert: None
Comment: Rolle is an experienced starting corner who was banged up last year with ankle, foot and shoulder injuries then found out during the season he has epilepsy. When healthy, he is very athletic and has good speed and competitiveness. He doesn’t always use good technique, but is quick enough to recover and get away with it. He tends to be upright in his pedal and turns. He has good awareness and recognition when playing off coverage. He can see routes develop and does a good job of closing with a burst. He has good recognition to screens and shallow crossing routes through zones. He is quick to plant and close with adequate angles. When he shuffles with his eyes to the inside, he is late to flip and drive on out routes. He also has trouble tracking the deep ball when receivers get behind him. When he’s up in press, he has smooth hips to flip and accelerate. He does a good job from a trail position to undercut routes and maintain leverage on receiver breaks. In the run game, he is inconsistent holding force. He will give effort, but is not a strong player to shed and tackle aggressively. He provides inconsistent wrap on tackles and will usually try to block tackle and cut the runners’ legs out from under him. His age, injuries and neurological condition could have an effect on his ability to perform in 2008.
Personally, I think Cedric Griffin came on strong the second half of the season last year. I don’t think Samari Rolle would instantly be an upgrade over Griffin.

Griffin played a HELL of a lot better last year.
We need depth at CB, that is certain.
But Griffin has played well enough to solidify his place alongside Winfield as our starting corner. Some of the hits he delivered last year, along with some pretty tight coverage against some good receivers, has turned my opinion of him 180 degrees.
He is improving every year, and I am happy to have him on our team.
At least he isn’t Benny Sapp.

I never jumped on that Griffin downer-bandwagon….he is a good CB and people do not throw at Winfield all day long. Saying that, I think we get younger at CB A. Smith <I like him..and everyone can’t be blessed with height> or the tall Utah corner seems like he is worth a look
