Bring in the "old guys"

With all the "excitment" ( I say that tongue in cheek) the Viking FA signings have generated this offseason, I say let's bring in the old guys. By old I mean by NFL standards 32+ years. I know the FA agent market wasn't that great this year and the team is spending it's money wisely but their is some old guys who still have something left and could contribute to a Superbowl run.  Here are the players I would like to see wearing Purple this year.

Jason Taylor DE: Doesn't anyone remember the 06 game where he almost singlehandedly beat the Vikes? He has a lot to prove after his big contract last year and is is pursuit of a ring. He is a natural LDE and would conjure up memories of the old Purple People Eaters.

Orlando Pace OT: could be brought in to play RT where he would definately be an upgrade. He has always been dominant in the run game and would love having a RB like AD to block for.

Tory Holt WR: A true pro at wideout who runs disciplined routes and knows how to take care of his body. Would serve as a tutor to Vikes young WR's while giving us a true #2 WR.

Jeff Garcia QB: A veteran of the WCO who would love to go out with a SB ring. He does not have much of a window left and his experiance would benefit the Vikes other QB's.

Of course they would all have to take a pay cut which I think they would if they really want a SB title. This would allow the Vikes to take the BPA in each round of the draft or even allow them to trade down  and get extra picks to fortify this team for the future. Any thoughts?

I brought this up in another post, but something has to be wrong with Garcia. Other teams have worse QB situations than we do, and they haven’t bitten on the guy’s hook yet. Something has to have been discovered behind the scenes or something. Given the way people talk the guy up, you figure he’d have been snatched away by now.

That has to be it. Good job, Spielman! Keep that crap out of our locker room!

Backup

Garcia doesnt want to be a backup. Where ever he goes we wants to get the instant nod.
That is why all teams are staying away. That and he has a high asking price, NFL teams are making him sweat a bit to bring that price way down.

Coach Garcia

Hire him as the new QB Coach then, where he doesn’t suck down cap space

I love Garcia. The guy is a goof, but what other quarterbacks are willing to run downfield to throw a block.

I like Kevin Shaffer

better then Orlando Pace, at this point. He is still a veteren but at 29 is not pushing into his decline years. He is a natural RT with experience at LT so he could be moved if Mount McKinnie gets in any more trouble. And he will be cheaper then Pace.

I do love the idea of bringing in Holt, for al teh reasons you and others have said.

I think Jason Taylor has crossed the line into decline, his performance and injuries of last year I think are all the evidence we need for that. I am not sure he could provice enough of an upgrade and LDE to be worth the money he would cost.

I do like Garcia, but I do wonder a bit too why he still has not signed with any one yet. but I would be happy if he signed with us.

Will the Real Thor Please Stand Up ... ?

Ditto

Jason Taylor is not injury prone though. His numbers may seem down because the rest of the dline for the skins sucked major sack (lol).
J.TAYLOR, K. WILL, P. WILL, AND J. ALLEN…DOMINATION BABY!

If after the Vikes dont do a draft day trade for CUTLER, then they will sign Garcia at a much cap friendlier price.

I would put Holt at the #1 spot. Berrian does not run crisp routes, more of a burner.

Don't forget Brooks...

I have watched Derrick Brooks in Tampa for the last 12 years and he’s another one of those “old” guys who still has a couple solid years in his career…fantastic leader on and off the field (rare in the NFL) and the best LB in Bucs history…oh and has a SB ring too. I like Holt for WR, Pace is not great but an upgrade from what we have and I’d pass on Taylor after I he appeared on Dancing with the Stars…that’s automatic elimination.

Brooks has value, still...

If EJ stays healthy and with an improved Greenway, I think Leber gives us the veteran leadership we need. I wouldn’t pay up for Brooks, given that needs remain at WR and RT. I say, let’s sign Holt and Shaffer, then draft every spot for the best quality player on the board.
