Around SBN: Super Bowl XLVI: Eli Manning And The Meaning Of 'Elite'

If I were Brad Childress, I WOULD...(pt2)

I thought I would repost this question since it has been 2 months since I posted part 1.

If you want to recap, here is what I said before

"Though the superbowl still needs to be played, it already seems like a long offseason. Since Chilly remains the HC in Minny, we can all agree that there needs to be changes, tweeks, or just plain moving and shaking within the vikings organization.

I'd like your thoughts on what you think the HC should get to work on.

My 2 cents

  1. Fire the Special Ed (ahum...Teams) Coordinator
  2. Announce the all play calling duties will be given to Bevell
  3. Throw Frasier a welcome back party
  4. Announce that your starting qb in 09 will be Adrian Peterson
  5. DRAFT: RG, CB, SPECIAL TEAMER, and LB (in that order)
  6. Shave Head

Anything else I forgot?"

I thought I would add my new two cents and ask you to join in!

2 cents:

1. Get Jay Cutler by giving the Broncos our: 1st (22nd) 2009 pick, 2010 2nd round pick, and Chester Taylor.

2. Get serious about getting a proven full back to block for AP. I believe Tahi is no longer an option (or shouldnt be)

3. Free Agent-RT: Although Pace COULD....switch to the right side, he still remains an expensive option. So I would get Kevin Shaffer.

4. Get HOLT, enough said

5. Draft for BPA in 2009 Draft.

6. Shave Head

Your thoughts gentleman...

my 2 cents

Don’t know why you wanted the Vikings to get a RG. Herrera seems like a decent option. Glad you fixed that in your second part.

Don’t know about a 1st, CT, and next year’s 2nd. Seems a little steep. Maybe next year’s can be a conditional pick, starting at a 5th and going to a 2nd if the Vike’s make the superbowl.

I read that the Vikings are interested in Leonard Weaver. He seems like a good option for FB. Can block and catch/run the ball. I still don’t know why the Vikings moved Kleinsasser from FB. He was the best blocking FB in the game. Here’s a thought. If Pettigrew is available, draft him to be the starting TE, moving Shaincoe to the 2nd TE spot. And move Kleinsasser to FB. Just a thought.

If the Vikes land a competent QB (Cutler), I think the Vikings current WR corp is good enough. Although Holt would be a welcome addition either way.

Not sure what the Vikings can do at RT, although Shaffer seems like a possibility. Don’t know why he hasn’t been brought in yet.

Would love to see Klink with a shaved head. And he definitely needs to give up the play calling. And the Game management. And the player management. And anything else to do with the Vikings.

hahahaha.... if only

P.S., you should really look into getting a new display name for this blog site. It’s very disconcerting.

Yeah, I’ve noticed people think its a reference to Brett Favre, which its definitely not. I don’t want to get a totally new name though, I’ll have to think on it.

Keep It

Most of the people that associate you with Favre are relatively new to the site. You shouldn’t change your name because of that.

I think Bevell started calling plays in Childress’ second season, so I guess we would be looking for a third option. Hell, maybe Childress should do it again since we didn’t have the players back then that we do now. Maybe he could do better.

If Torry Holt’s knees check out (and we should be checking them out) then we should indeed sign him. Pace would be nice too. We need to sign something other than special teamers though if we want to do anything better than 8-8.

I have the perfect Candidate

to call offensive plays for us.

Leslie Frazier! He’ll need teh experience next year when he is our HC (fingers crossed).

If I were Brad Childress I would...

1. Walk up to Mike Tyson, slap him on the @ss and call him “Sally.”
2. Take a mile long walk on a half-mile long pier.
3. Clean my gun by looking down the barrel while I click the trigger.
4. Slide down a mile long razor blade into a vat of lemonade.
5. Take the Red Pill.
6. Hire a good resume writer…one with a fertile imagination.
7. Pop the question to Tarvaris…don’t keep the poor boy waiting.
8. Drink the Jim Jones Kool-Aid.
9. See if the new United Football League is ready to expand.
10. Get quotes on hair plugs, ear plugs and b_tt plugs as a package deal.

Too Steep!

No big deals for Cutler. Some of you think he’s the second coming of Christ. Whatever the Vikings would have to deal to get him would be too much.

With the right side of our O-Line, especially RT, having Peyton Manning or Tom Brady back there wouldn’t do us any good. We need to address the right side of the O-Line before we do anything else.

After that, we might start looking at some receivers who can actually get open, and then catch the ball. We have to be in the bottom third of the NFL for receivers. I keep hoping that Sidney Rice will pan out, but he seems to get hurt lacing up his cleats.

I think Rosenfels will be fine if we can get him some protection, and another receiver besides Berrian to throw to.

Good list!

I would drop the blocking back requirement to #4, bring Holt (WR) up to #2, and make the RT upgrade the #3 requirement, through both FA and the draft. Mine would look like;

1) Get Jay Cutler. Now. Get him. Don’t be coy. Don’t play games. Get Cutler Now. Do whatever it takes. 2009 1st, CT, and 2010 2nd, sounds like a sweet price.

2) Get Holt and Harrison, both can be picked up reasonably

3) Get an RT, and C, out of FA and the draft. Sully’s going to need a backup.

4) Blocking back? I suppose. But now we’re looking at needing a replacement for both CT and Tahi, so get two, and get some good, all-purpose backs.

5) Draft for linemen

6) Shave Childress like a bad monkey and sell him Gillette for their commercials

by DCPurple on Mar 20, 2009 10:11 AM CDT reply actions

I think RT is more of a concern than WR.

If they got Holt, there is no need to get Harrison.

No need to get a C in the draft. When they get a replacement for RT, Cook will move to his natural position and duke it out with Sully for the starting center spot.

by PurplePeopleEaters09 on Mar 20, 2009 12:42 PM CDT up reply actions

You may have a point about the RT vs the WR, it’s kind of a toss-up as to which is more critical. I like going with the WR as a priority over the RT because it not only helps the QB, it also helps AP by forcing the field to stretch and getting those extra men out of the box.

I don’t think there’s much to choose between Holt and Harrison, both can be had on the cheap. With the Vike’s success rate so far, I say bring them both in and whichever one works out first, we keep. There’s always the wasted roster space taken up by Booty that can be cleared out.

Why do you think that Cook should be a C? That’s one position I’m kinda nervous about, we’re only 1 deep there right now…

by DCPurple on Mar 23, 2009 9:47 AM CDT up reply actions

He played center in college. We switched him over to right tackle after we drafted him.

by FarvaForTheVikings on Mar 23, 2009 10:14 AM CDT up reply actions

exactly

IMO, if someone is playing center in college, it is because they can’t play tackle or guard. Center is the least athletic position on the line, as witnessed by how generally low centers are drafted. So if Cook couldn’t play tackle at NMState, why did the Vikings think he could play tackle at the NFL level? That was a stupid move and I knew it would never work out well. I would like to see him moved back to center and compete with Sully for the starting spot. I think Cook would win that battle, since he’s had time to learn the system. And if he played center, it would be pretty hard to false start! (although he’d probably find a way to do it!) hahaha

2 cents worth...

I hear this at every Vikings site I go to…"The price of this years 1st, next years 2ND and a name player for Jay Cutler, is to high. So tell me, why is that to steep? We have been floundering around ever since we lost to Atlanta back in 1998…How much longer are we the fans supposed to have to wait even for a return to the Superbowl let alone finally win it? I am 53… I know the pain…I am ready for the Vikings owners and staff to pull the pin, cough up those picks and (name player) and go after a big name QB…Yes Cutler has only started in 37 games, but look how he has improved….All the teams with big name QB’s like the Pats, the Steelers, Indy, they have those guys there for one reason…TO WIN THE WHOLE THING!!….The teams are happy, they got their rings… the FANS are happy, they won the whole thing…so if the Vikings are not willing to finally make the move for a guy of Cutlers caliber, to make their best attempt at winning the SB, then I don’t see the Vikings being able to stay in Minnesota…PEOPLE WILL PAY FOR WINNERS, BUT NOT UNTIL THEY HAVE WON (meaning the SB) and I hope the Vikings will be able to take that step at securing a long term least in Minnesota..remember…Cutler may not be a big name, but hes way above what we had to put up with the last few years..he doesnt have to sit and watch for a few years he’s already to go…
