Another Cutler story
I've been pretty doubtful of any Cutler trade but it seems more likely the more I hear of him not wanting to even talk with the Broncos coaches. I'm not going to get my hopes up but well I am going to at least believe there's a chance of this happening. If we were to somehow get Cutler and add a moderate upgrade at reciever (Coles, Moore, etc.) we'd really be set up to be a top flight offense. Anyhow, mainly just posting this to link to the story in the trib.

They already were shopping him.
There were earlier reports that Cutler’s current unhappyness with his team is due to the coach looking to trade him and keeping Cutler in the dark during all of it.
Now he wants out.
I can almost guarantee that there will be no Cutler trade until closer to the draft. They are not going to trade away a guy like that until they know who will be available at the #12 spot.

They were trying to trade him for another quarterback!
That is the significant peice here. They aren’t going to move a pro bowl caliber QUARTERBACK and thereby entertain the prospect of an indeterminant amount of time without the most significant component on a football team.
They certainly aren’t going to do it for Rosenfels, Jackson or Booty.

No, I know they were.
They were trying to trade him for a shot at Cassel.
But now that they didn’t get Cassel, Cutler is mad he was kept in the dark.
We certainly don’t have anything relevant to offer the Broncos in trade, but a 3 way trade between Us, the Chiefs and the Broncos would be feasible.
Look for the Broncos to deal Cutler for Cassel and a 3rd, maybe even a 2nd rounder. The Chiefs are not going to want to give up the draft picks, which is where the Vikes come in.
Vikes give a 1st, 2nd and 4th for Cutler, in return they give us their 4th or 5th. That way the Broncos get who they want, the Chiefs get another 1st round draft pick so they can use their 3rd on a QB and they have an extra 2nd rounder.
It is tough to deal that many picks away for even a QB like Cutler, but I would certainly give them away for an almost guaranteed super bowl run for the next 4 years.

LoveHate is absolutely right
The only reason they were shopping him in the first place is because they wanted Cassel to be “their guy” that they built around. They would not trade Cutler to a team unless a significant QB was a part of the mix.
We have nothing to offer for him… and that includes our draft picks.

By that I mean their #3 overall pick they would use on a QB.
And they would not have an “extra” 2nd rounder….

Emotional rollercoaster
This is too much for me, I cant take it anymore. I think all these trade rumors and free agency talks were fabricated just to distract me from work. With that being said I will throw in my left nut for Cutler.

Agreed
But, the Vikings never ( at least not recently) was a destination that great players wanted to go to. Plus now we got an owner with deep pockets and willingness to spend spend spend.
This sure beats the hell out of a dreaded offseason. Atleast until the draft comes around.

Go get him boys!
As long as we don’t pull a Ditka and trade all of our draft picks for him I say do what it takes and bring Cutler in here to win a few championships.

We will get him when hell freezes over.
We are paying Rosencopter 9 million dollars. There is no way out depth chart would look like this:
QB – 1. Jay Cutler 2. Tarvaris Jackson 3. Sage Rosencopter 4. John David freaking Booty.

no you are wrong
QB – 1. Jay Cutler 2. Sage Rosencopter 3. Tarvaris Jackson 4. John David freaking Booty. this is not for long. In one or too more years Jackson will be out of the league or be a back up else where.

If
and it’s a very big if the Vikes were to pull off a trade, likely one of Sage or TJack would be included in the deal. Most likely Sage, as the Broncos would need someone with starting potential. I agree they’d be stupid to do it but they also need a running back. A 1st round pick and Chester Taylor might be enough to make them at least consider it.
The only way a deal is done is if Cutler forces them to trade him. I still think they’ll all kiss and make up though
Peyton's good but have you ever heard of Jeff George?

It's a pipe dream at best.
The Chiefs trading away the quarterback they just traded for make absolutely no sense. I was the first to say there wasn’t enough known about Cassel to warrant high picks and a big contract, but the Chiefs draft pick (3) would require a hefty contract and less would be known about him. They got their guy.

This sound like Tjack NO. up.
I think Tjack day is numbered. with all the qb they trying to bring in. Finally They are coming to they senses. Thank you.

not that this really matters but it's fun anyway...
I have a buddy who is friend’s with Jay Cutler’s sister and he told me that Cutler is a HUUUUGE asshole. Not that it matters, just a fun little nugget.
Assholes usually make pretty good signal-callers.

Pft, it’s his sister. Of course he’s an asshole to his sister. Aren’t we all different with our family than other people?
by Frost on Mar 3, 2009 10:26 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Why would...
The Chiefs trade with a division rival for QBs of approximately the same skill level?
That being said, I don’t think the Vikes will pull this off; we’d have to dump either Sage or T-Jack, and I’m sure they won’t cut Sage, and they’d probably like to keep Tarvaris, for reasons unknown.

All I can say is
Never say never. With these guys running it, they can dissappoint you one minute….well, ok, most minutes, but occasionaly shock the hell out of you.

Case in point
Jared Allen.I didn’t think we were ever going to get someone of his calibur on our team. then Bam, Vikes get JA and a 6 year extention. =:)
Hopefully there is some magic again this year with Cutler. we make a good destination for him form the Bronco’s stand point as they would rarely, if eveer have to play against him if he winds up with us.

The difference is that the Chiefs wanted to rebuild that year. They wanted draft picks. We gave them their draft picks.
The Broncos offense is established around Cutler. They don’t want our picks. They want a QB. A young one. Who’s regarded as having alot of upside. If all the Broncos were going to get was picks as opposed to Cassel, this wouldn’t even be a story. They’d have flat out rejected it. They want somebody to replace the QB they trade. We don’t have what they want.
by Frost on Mar 3, 2009 10:28 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
But the chiefs STILL want to rebuild.
Rebuilding is NOT a 1 year operation.
The Chief’s want to build a young nucleus of players through the draft, it just happened that they were able to get a great deal through a “previously discussed” trade with Belichick.
I would be willing to bet that the Chiefs would prefer to have two draft picks over Cassel. They already have the # 3 overall pick, which should be good enough to get one of the best QB’s in the draft.
Why would they want a QB that is 4-5 years older than the people they just drafted? It would make more sense to pick a Rookie QB and let the team grow up together. Well, that is my Opinion. I don’t have an owner breathing down my neck telling me I better win some games in the next few seasons.
I still think a trade between the Vikes, Chiefs and Broncos could be done, with the Chiefs wanting young talent.
by Bjorno on Mar 4, 2009 12:16 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Wouldn’t Thigpen be that young QB that can develop more behind the older guy? I don’t follow the Chiefs that well, but I would think they are at a point now where having double digits picks wouldn’t be as helpful as it was last year, but maybe they have the roster and cap space to do it all again.
by vikingfuture8816 on Mar 4, 2009 1:32 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Good question
I don’t follow them much either, but I don’t think Thigpen is the answer.
He is short, 6’1" and only two years younger than Cassel.
I was just saying that the Chiefs could get a 1st round pick for a guy that they gave 1/2 a 2nd round pick for if they traded Cassel to the Broncos and the Vikes offered a 1st rounder for Cutler.
That’s a pretty good deal if you ask me.
by Bjorno on Mar 4, 2009 3:34 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
They’d want the guy who’s 4-5 years older than who they’re drafting because he’s proven he can make plays when he has the right kind of talent around him. It’s a big risk using that 3rd overall pick on a QB that won’t turn out. Now they can spend it on Crabtree or one of the elite O-linemen.
While I’m sure they are still looking for picks, they won’t trade away Cassel. They traded for the guy, obviously they want him. Besides, QBs last quite a while in the league if you give them the right protection. Cassel can still grow up with the younger players, he’s not in his 30s or anything. He could have 10+ years of football left in him.
by Frost on Mar 4, 2009 3:43 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
True
But my intense need to believe that the Vikings might have a chance next year requires me to follow the delusion that the Chiefs really want to draft a QB with that #3 pick.
