Jeff George
With all the controversy surrounding our qb situation year in and year out since brad childress arrived why not throw someone else in the mix.
As reported on the Star Tribune website Jeff George wants another shot to be the vikings qb. He thinks he would be a perfect fit for our system and even went as far as to say if he were our qb we would have won the superbowl already. Now we all have fond memories of George from the 99 season after he took over for Randall Cunningham, and i went and looked back on this and was suprised by what i found. having prolly his most productive season of the year with our vikings, management chose not to resign him at the end of the season. This kind of bewilders me considering he had a great season but whats done is done.
George, now 41, now has asked Brad "Genius" Childress once already for a shot at a roster spot and been turned down. but does that surprise any of you? George says he wouldn't cost a thing and would gladly be a second or third string insurance policy he just wants to play again. And i like that in the guy. Hes definitely got a passion for the game. With the qb situation the way its been the last few years i willing to try anyone and i would rather try someone whos had some success (George) with our team than someone who moves like a sloth and hasn't had any success with any team let alone the vikings (Holcomb, Bollinger, Frerotte, McMahon, Brad Johnson*). My point is why not bring in George for the minimum for training camp and this offseason let him workout with our 3 other second and third string qbs and see if he can earn a roster spot, he is confident and feels he can have the same success that kurt warner and brett favre had last year. so i say bring him in for the minimum let him compete and if he doesn't workout you aren't out much and he can be a mentor of sorts to the other qbs during his stay. And theres no way he can be as statuesc as Frerotte in the pocket, we might as have put lady liberty under center.
*denotes that Johnson had "some" success outside of minnesota, won a superbowl with a scary defense, but in all reality was barely better than a trent dilfer and was always injured when he played for minnesota, and a crybaby during his most recent stint and stunk it up in dallas this last year.
and my proposed offseason plan for a qb competition is to put each of our qbs in for a quarter every game and then rotate quarters weekly so as not to skew stats when on qb plays only against backups and the other only plays against starters.
so what do you guys think , a please refrain from mentioning Jay Cutler i am sick of reading about this attention w***e, and it is out of the realm of possibility to even pry him away we tried and backed off, and the more i think about it the less i like him as a prospect, and this is coming from a guy who was all for getting Jay at one point in time, i'm sorry i just wen on a rant about the very thing i didn't want mention

i liked george
never did understand why we let him go. maybe cause every once in a while there was a little lack of effort. otherwise he play about as good as any qb we`ve had on this team in a long time.

We would hit an ultimate low...
As if our QB situation isn’t already, whats the word, terrible, we would be the laughing stock of the league. Jeff George. Really?! They guy would craddle into a ball before being TOUCHED by any kind of defended! lol

If he thinks that, at 41, he’s going to make in the NFL, I’d be tempted to sign him just to show him he’s very much wrong so he can shut up and stop whining. Honestly, George isn’t going to be the answer to the QB situation, and I find it extremely hard to believe that a guy who hasn’t played in several years and is past 40 would be able to win a game, let alone play a whole one.
He’s not Vinny Testavarde.

Jeff George is addicted to his own lack of fame
Take a look at Brad Johnson’s career again. His best year was in TB, and his next-best year was in WAS with a receiving corps that was never as good without him as they were with him. With two legitimate Pro Bowl seasons, there is no way that Brad Johnson belongs in the same bin as Trent Dilfer.
Try this thought on: Brad Johnson’s worst year as a starter came in 2006 because Brad Childress and Darrell Bevell were cooking up some bad sh!t and spreading it around. Sure, Childress and Bevell will say that people just don’t get it and need to open their minds, but everyone else knows what a bad trip it was and has been.
Jason Whitlock was Jeff George’s center in high school, so he’s always throwing George’s name around out of bias. Considering that George’s rating was worse than throwing all incomplete passes the last 2 times he tried to start an NFL game 8 years ago (then 34), it’s become a running joke more than a serious deal. There is no way that Jeff George could earn an NFL roster spot today or ever again.
I can’t believe that anyone would trade the Culpepper years for more of Jeff George. There were reasons the coaching staff and ownership passed on JG, after all. But if that sort of thinking excites you, then feel free to do away with the Fran Tarkenton years and plug in some other QB who maybe could have won the SB rather than just get there.

No George
With George we would get the worst qualities from each of all our quarterback options wrapped into one guy.
1. Huge arm(assuming it still works) but the inability to read a defense and make a decision(Jackson).
2. Old and no mobility(Gus).
3. Prima Dona(Cutler).
From what I have seen of Sage he is seems to have some of problem number one. It always amazed me how George could throw the ball. He had one of the strongest arms ever. However he never had the brain to back it up.

I really enjoy how this first story starts out. I think it’s all that needs to be said.
“Jeff George, 41, hasn’t thrown a pass in an NFL game in almost eight years, and he hasn’t been on an NFL roster since 2004.”

Perennial Troublemaker
I was looking over past Viking QBs and did some research on Jeff George. For the most part, his entire NFL career was a fight with management, no matter what team he was on. Every time he left a team, it was because he and management didn’t get along. So even if he was “pigskin-ready”, can you trust him to be a team player? It sounds like he learned some hard lessons in the years since he last played…
That being said, is he physically able to play? Does he still have the arm, the judgement? Can he handle being sacked?
Despite the fact that I’ve never been a Jeff George fan, I have to say, I love his new attitude. I say bring the old man in and let him compete for a spot. If he wins it, he wins it, and if he doesn’t, that’s an end to the whining. Either way, the Vikings come out ahead.

On a side note...
I’m actually related to Jeff George through marriage. My Mom’s Sister’s daughter (my cousin) married him. I’ve met him once, and have a few things signed by him, but that’s it. So hey, that’s kinda neat. Too bad he’s a wee bit delusional.

Was it last year?
Or was it the year before J.G. called P.A. on the air to ask him if he thought the the Vikings would be interested in him? At the time my brother made the best Jeff George comparison possible.
If you’ve seen Napolean Dynamite the scene where Rico is videotaping himself throwing footballs out in the desert then goes home to watch the video of himself while talking about how good he looks doing it—it’s easy to imagine that’s Jeff George these days.
I feel bad for the guy, he had a great opportunity, but didn’t realize it until it was too late. If there was ever anyone that can say, “I could’a been a contender” it’s him.
