Heath Farwell Re-signs With Vikings
Linebacker Heath Farwell, who took visits to New England and Cleveland this week, has agreed to a contract with the Vikings. Farwell had interest from several teams, according to agent Bruce Tollner, but elected to remain in Minnesota. Farwell is the second free agent the Vikings have re-signed.
So, there you go, get our special team's ace back. Glad to have him. Our special teams sucked major butt last year, so having him back from injury can only help the situation.
UPDATE:
He signed a three year, $7.75 million deal.

Finally...
I feel that we have only takes steps back this off-season, so it is good to hear that they didnt let Heath slip away.
Finally a bright spot.
More $ than I expected
But we really need him on special teams. If he can compete for a starting LB job or fill in for a possible injury, all the better. I’m glad I didn’t have to say Farewell to Farwell! (Yes, I would have totally used that as my headline if he signed elsewhere. Thank God he didn’t, right?)

I remember reading
I think on rotoworld a few months ago that he should be easy to lock up for 1 mil a year, haha!
The Thing about this offseason
we haven’t really added anything from outside, but we have been good at resigning our own talant, (Birk, excluded).
Will the Real Thor Please Stand Up ... ?
resignings?
We have resigned 3! Looking at a list of NFL teams new signings and resignings we are still at the bottom with a couple other teams.
What about Paymah, another guy that could bolster ST and be a stand by in the secondary? Did we lose him to the Ravens too?
Sorry, our movement to fill holes is still lamest in the league.Farwell is a good step but I still see teams working harder to get things locked up
Complaining?
Yes. But not over Paymah as much as I am lack of initiative to shore up the rt. side of our O-line and CB situation. I am in good company with many fans on this site and elsewhere that shutter to think what will happen if we don’t move. So yes, I am complaining a bit-with good reason.
Thanks.
There’s really no quality O-linemen or CB left. You’re looking for signings, but Spielman is looking for quality over quantitty. RT doesn’t even need to be signed. We could easily draft a starter this year. Their targets were all re-signed or signed with other teams already. All thats left is the garbage nobody wants, except as backups. But you’d be upset if they signed backups.
Kalif Barnes?
Is a quality starter. Sure he was a LT, but I think that would be even better. He could play RT, and if the Vikings ever lost Mt. McKinney, they would have their instant replacement in Kalif. Just a thought for the RT spot anyways. And there are plenty of young, serviceable CB’s available. Bryant McFadden for one.

I like Barnes
But I wouldn’t rush to sign him. He is coming off a year where is play wasn’t up to his usual standard and this past offseason, he got a DUI. No team is going to be in a rush to sign him, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see a lot of interest even with the Dewey.
Frosty
No buddy. I don’t want them to sign a scrub. Point is, it seems like the prime OT picks are going to be hit before we pick. A rookie can start and there seems to be a good crop this year. My God son tried out for the Bucs. He and Jeremy Trueblood became pretty tight and they both said it is a tough transition from college to pro, even a high draft pick has a tough time, especially the 1st year. He couldn’t believe how much the speed of the game changed from college to pro.Now unless they got some idea to move up a little in the draft and grab one of “the sure things” Great! OT is a tougher position than people realize.
I just expected a little effort to see if they could get a good vet at a bargain earlier. Just the effort would have been nice to see. If it was too outrageous of price at least we tried. You are right. There really is nothing left out there. If an old vet is left with a a little left in the tank and willing to sign for less and a one year deal as insurance for a rookie pick. But, that would start to be an O-line roster overload and probobly won’t work.
Ya know Frost. My big fear now is what is we go into the draft and no OT is taken in round one or 2? Then tell me to be comfortable with starting a 4th rounder or later to start. It better be an early pick.with a good pedigree. So I’ll trust you on a good pick at OT to step in. I won’t be comfortable if it is a "project " pick tho.
Kinda giving up on FA for now. We might pick up a deal a long the way that can help. So, on with the draft!
PS
Frost. I would have thought by now you would know I am not a pull the trigger on every crazy deal that comes our way type of fan. I am a shopper. Not always a buyer. Have a good one pal. :) Go Vikes!
I do like to speculate and guess. That’s what makes it all fun. In the end I’ll be watching every game and behind the team 100% Even if they were the Lions UHgg! what am I saying
lol Yeah they better use that OT pick on the first day. Not that you can’t get a quality player later on, but the odds would be against us on that one. If they picked up an OT with the 4th or less rounder, I would join you in being uncomfortable, at least until I had gotten to see how he plays in the preseason games.
And you know, now that I think about it, the best OTs will definitely be gone by the time our pick comes around. We might have had a chance at one before, but with Cinnci, Seattle, and now the Bills taking big-name WR targets in FA, I don’t think they’ll be spending the picks on wide recievers like I had originally thought. Of course, the draft can be completely unpredictable sometimes and a good lineman could fall in our laps.
Maybe we'll trade up
but there seems to be an enticing group so like you say, we still may get one who can step in. It may take a few games , but I’m ever the optomist. I will LOBE IT it Sullivan dies good. But putting Cook back at tackle is still scary.
I hear from my god son on facebook. He thinks Paymah would still be a good addition even with the Farwell signing. I forget I met him when he was with Sam at Bucs camp. Sam said he is a very strong hitter and feels in the right system he still can prove himsrlf to be valuable in a teams secondary. But. would be a good addition to special teams for the right price
He has to get past
the Browns and the Ravens before he can get here. Those damn Ravens, targetting all our FAs
Smart Strategy
How many stand-outs on the Vikings have been picked off by other teams in recent years, to help them get to the Super Bowl? Players, and Coaches, both. Oh yeah. Sometimes it seems like the rest of the NFL seems to use the Vikes as the training ground for top talent, lol.
Sam Lightbody
He was at Wash St. Did well and had some heavy competition at OT whike there. He was a project and was told he would be kept on practice team and Gruden would let him go the last day.UFA’s get very little $ for the time they put in. Funny, cause when Gruden was fired that was one gripe players had. They could not trust ol’ Jons word.
I think in time Sam could have made a run for it somewhere but it is mentally taxing to put that much work in for 6 months and be released the last day. It was a long shot for him but the experience is one he’ll remember.
My point is some of those lower teir FA at O-line might have not got the right opportunity and I saw a lot in Sam that was head and tails over Cook. It was not meant to be for him and he is happy working out at the national level in discus and doing well. He lettered in football as well as track.
well congrats...
Just being able to compete for a football spot is a wonderful thing. I bet you’re proud of him, huh

It was fun
but sad to see him so discouraged his 2nd year. They must have liked him enough to want him to try again.
He’s a good kid and doing well. He got his degree and teaching while training in discus. Must be those Minnesota roots and blue collar ethic :)
Sad story for the Gophs tho. He wanted to play at Minn and was ready to sign (he was all state Calif). He waited for the guy to show up and got a call saying they went with an in state kid. (3rd team all state) Sam winds up playing a starter on a Rose Bowl team. Gophs make stupid choice and lose a 2nd team all pac 10 O-lineman.
But yes. We were all proud of him and still are. He has an autistic brother who he treated so well. Gave him his Rose Bowl jersey. That kid loved seeing his brother on TV when he could.
Good things still happen to good people.
Well, lets get our Vikes going. I’m always optimistic. Get carried away during FA and draft but every year I act like we’re gonna win every game anyway. In the long run I love my Vikings. Iwas blessed in that one year after my accicent I got to see 3 games this year while living in FL and then traveling home. That was special!
Keep the Faith PPE09. We’ll be OK.
just gotta have faith
It’s fun to blog about what we think should change. Vikings are my favorite team in any sport. Glad to hear you and your optimism. You are right, we will be OK. I’ve got my fingers crossed for your god son. He seems like an excellent kid. Hope he gets a shot somewhere.

He's hoping
He can climb the ladder and make the olympic team in discus and go to London. Those guys don’t blossom til their 30’s. I always tease his dad that I am going to call Winter Park and see if they’ll give him a tryout or one of those new United Football league teams. He thinks I’m serious as Sam has given up on football. He had to make a choice and I guess he thought he might make it someplace but was it worth it if he got severely injured in camps and didn’t have the security of contracted players $ wise. So he is happy.
He got some Arena offers but they didn’t pay much for the risk. When you got that degree, you have optons. Glad to see more schools putting emphasis on that more than ever with their players.
You in the Twin Cities PPE?
nope, I used to live in South Dakota. But I moved out to Oregon about 5 years ago to go to college and get out of that climate.

Just saw a fishing show
from Oregon. It looked beautiful. One of the other posters here is from there. I have not seen him on much but he played in our fantasy league on espn thing. We had fun.
Would love to visit there some day.
See there is not much movement. I still wonder what happene with the Paymah visit???
Seems we’re running out of material to blog about. I love to hear everyones opinions. Great bunch of folks. We poke at each other now and then but it seems like we are all friends who have never met. Keeps an ol’ cripple like me entertained.
