Killing Two Birds with One Stone

So i was browsing the web and i came across two reports that involve two very good players from the Rams

Apparently the rams are trying to trade Orlando Pace their big offensive tackle. As i've read on this sight and many others the majority of the population believe the vikings need to add another good OT to the line. I know pace has dealed with injuries the past few seasons but he was an elite player and still could be very good.

The other player i'm kinda intrigued by is Torry Holt. Torry has requested his release and the Rams i would guess are trying to trade him before his roster bonus is due next week.  Torry Holt is one of the best recievers of all time and i believe in Minnesota he could be quality leader and mentor to our young receiving and hes younger than TO and only a year older than Houshbag would have been.

If i were our beloved purple i would look into these players. I think a second round pick for both players could suffice given the age of the players and then we would have to restructure their contracts.  I know they dont have a lot of upsided but they could provide valuable leadership and experience in the locker room. What do you guys think.

Don't know if I'd give up a 2nd

But I think they could both be had for a 3rd. Rumor has it Holt is very close to being released because of the lack of interest in him. It might be worth offering up a 3rd for both players. I still think the Vikings need to get a RT before the draft, because tackles taken with high draft picks don’t always work out (Marcus Johnson). Filling our most pressing need would allow the Vikings to draft BPA, and I think there should be some game changers available with the 22nd pick.

Why dont we

just wait till they get cut and then just sign them. Holt is most likely to be cut by the end of the week. Considering that the Rams have been shopping him for a couple weeks and no one has bitten. Pace might have to be traded for and might be a good fit. But I have two questions. 1. Can Pace play right tackle? He has always played on the left side so he would have to show he is comfortable playing on the right because there is no way that Big Bryant can make the switch. 2. If he does make the switch and we sign him wouldnt that give our O-line the average age of like 31 or 32. Mickinnie will be 30 Hutchinson will be 32, Herrera will be 29 and Pace will be 34, all by the end of next season. Thank god we are plugging Sullivan in who will be 24.

I personally think that we need to get younger at right tackle. This draft is loaded with talent at Tackle. There could be as many as 5 or 6 tackles taken in the first round. and another 3 taken in the second. I wouldnt bet on them going after Pace and his huge contract.

I dont think that youth

is as big a deal on the offensive line as it is on the rest of the field. Experience of age tends to be more important. Knowing how to fend off the league’s elite rushers is something that is learned with time. We are used to saying Rushers and Receivers lose a step in their 30s, but those are the higher speed and harder pounding areas.

To answer the question above though, I think the idea of adding Holt would be good. I do believe he has some play left in him, and he would fit in as nicely as Wade has. Regarding Orlando Pace, mattscards put up a good point, can he play the other side, or is too set in his ways at having rushers come at his left?

2nd round pick?????

Both players are so injury-riddled they’re going to get cut.

I Agree...

It would be nice to see us acquire these guys. We could still draft a tackle and use the year or two Pace has left to bring a ROT along. Though the points are well taken: let these guys fall into the FA market and swipe them up.

Looks more like Holt is on the outs.

Apparently, there has been no team communication with Holt since Spagnuolo became the head coach, and Holt has not been invited to the offseason workouts which start in 6 days.

He is not the lightening bolt we need, but he sure could provide a spark in the passing game.

Stranger things have been known to happen. Didn’t Quinn fall to 22? He was projected to be a number 1 overall.

Quinn

There were questions about Quinn before the draft, and some teams are against 1st round QBs unless they have nobody at all at the position and feel very strongly about the QB in question.

Several teams could use a WR this time around, and Crabtree is thought to be something special. You’re right to suggest that it could happen, but Quinn probably had better odds of falling into the 2nd round in 2007 than Crabtree has of falling into the 20-something overall pick this year.

There’s questions about Crabtree too. Like how fast his straight-line speed is. I’m not saying that won’t get him drafted in the first round, but some teams might consider that a big question mark for a WR.
