Kenny Britt

What do folks think about Kenny Britt?  I watched this video last night on NFL.com and was kind of taken by him.  I've raised the idea in a couple of places that our best bet might be to shop our #22 for an extra pick and slide down the board a bit for a better talent/slot ratio at one of our top two need positions WR or OT.  Britt is projected to be a late first round or, more likely, early second round pick.  He seems like he could be an ideal candidate for this kind of a move, though there seems to be some concern about his (gasp) "character."  Not sure what that means in his case: I'm inclined to like stud receivers with a bit of swagger.

I guess I see Britt as roughly comprable to Sidney Rice, stylistically. And I’m not ready to give up on Rice (although maybe the coaches are, I don’t know). I’ve heard Britt’s hands are a bit unreliable, too. Dude was a beast in college, though.

I don’t know much about Britt. The reports I’ve read say his hands are good and, though it’s a short video, I thought his hands and footwork looked great. He also seemed to possess a unique grace once the wheels get moving that would make him a potential downfield threat, which still eludes Rice. From what I can tell, that big frame seems to take a bit of work getting off the block, but then has real smooth mechanics in the flat.

I guess I’m also not happy with Rice and have seen no evidence for why we should believe he will be a serious NFL playmaker. If fans gave TJ half the “under development” allowances people seem to be willing to give Rice, he’d be our most beloved player. Rice was slow and predictable all last season, which was especially evident in the Philly game, where Samuel would just sit on his lame outs. That said, I’ve been a Harvin supporter because, “if” Rice improves, Harvin would be an excellent complement, providing something that none of our receivers currently give us. I think you’re right to say that if we have our guy in Rice, Britt becomes redundant. A move on a guy like him will tell us a lot about where the coaches think Rice fits into our future.

Agreed..

Given Percy lays off the bong rips, I’m much more fond of him at #22 or later as compared to Britt. I posted some similar sentiments on a Holt post regarding Harvin as a great complement to a ‘fully-cooked’ Rice. :)

I don’t think Rice really got over that knee injury last year

Kenny Britt it just sounds like a star

This guy is one of my favorite recievers in the draft. I thought he was the number 5 rated reciever before the Harvin thing was confirmed. Now since Harvin falls directly off our board. He’s right behind Crabtree, Maclin and Heyward-Bay.

I personally dont think we should take a reciever if we dont think it is great value. I think that we take O-line or trade down.

Sporting News*

rated Britt as the #2 WR in the draft. (Harvin is #3, Crabtree #1) Britt has the height and skills to be a very good red zone target. His overall game, with the exception of his blocking, are rated very high.

  • I bought the ink and paper edition of the Sporting News draft issue. i.e. no link.

Oh, he doesn’t do downfield blocks well? Peterson’s not going to like him very much.

Yep!

That’s what I thought. A good downfield block turns a long run into a longer TD run. But blocking can be taught to a willing student. Don’t know enough about Britt to know if this is the case with him.

#5

They had Maclin #5. They had Brandon Tate #4. But it was based on his performance pre-injury. They have Tate projected round 3 and Maclin in round 1.

Remember, this is Sporting News rankings, not mine. I buy the mag because i like the way they organize the information. I don’t always agree with their conclusions.

Note: their CB rankings are quite different than conventional wisdom also. V. Davis is considered a 3rd round talent here. At OT both Britton and Oher are down the list. Beatty of Conn. is ranked a first rounder while Britton and Oher are ranked 3rd rounders.

Just goes to show you, ask 100 “draft experts” who the BPA is and you are likely to get 150 opinions.

I’ll just stick with what Mayock says. He usually knows wtf he’s saying.

BRITT!!!

I have had the pleasure of watching Britt for the last few years at Rutgers, like people said the kid is a beast!!! From what I have seen Britt would be a GREAT #2 receiver in the NFL, he was the #2 guy at RU for a while .. and he stepped up! Good Hands, Foot work is sound… I really believe that he has the makeup to be successful and if the Vikes can land a receiver like him, I would excited… maybe even buy season tickets and fly out every week to watch them play!

I hadn’t heard of Britt before, but I like what I saw in that video. He seems to track the ball wherever it goes. I also watched some highlights on youtube and was surprised how many times his QB would throw it short and low, yet he always came back to it and would dive into the ground to make sure he grabbed it. At 6’3 with a nice leaping ability, he will probably be a very good receiver in the NFL.
