Lets see what happens might be a shocker this round

I'm guessing Maualuga to Detroit

Which would depress the crap out of me, because he’d be an outstanding get for them there.

no doubt

are they smart enough though?….they seem to avoid defense like no other….well besides denver.

They need an offensive tackle, don't they?

Stafford is going to be dead by Week 6.

Even now Stafford is having nightmares filled with cameo appearances by Raji and Allen.

They have been rather eager to get rid of him for some reason.

If we don't get one of Beatty, Loadhold, or Moore...

I say we riot at the Metrodome.

And we have our tackle!

I like Loadholt a bit more than Beatty myself, but I still would have rather had Oher at 22, and packaged our 2nd and Chester to Arizona for Boldin… >.> What do you guys think?

That would have been ideal...

Too ideal. Childress/Spielman/Wilf could never have pulled that off.

True

But I still think it could have happened, if only we had tried. I don’t understand why we weren’t more involved in the trade talks for Boldin. We tried to so hard to get Housh, but we made no effort to get Boldin. What gives? It certainly wasn’t a money issue with what we offered Housh.

Loadholt to the Vikes.

One good note for today’s draft.

I would’ve done something different for both picks, but I like the 2nd round pick.

Hate to be a downer...

But the Vikings could’ve easily had a better day. Oher would’ve been better at 22, and Moore in the 2nd would’ve been my perfect day.

But knowing the Vikings… I’m glad we escaped without drafting Pat White or Michael Mitchell.

Oher was ranked as a top-10 prospect.

Not to mention, if we drafted Oher, we would’ve wound up as the happy ending of his feel good story, starring Sandra Bullock!

by Eric The Viking on Apr 25, 2009 8:26 PM CDT up reply actions

Oher slid out of the top ten for a reason

He had a lot lapses in cosistancy and in the NFL that can be costly. Too many free shots on the QB isn’t good.

by nmvikesfan on Apr 25, 2009 9:52 PM CDT up reply actions

The experts have all graded harvin as a top 4 playmaker in this draft. If that’s true it would make his selection at 22 a big time steal.

Stop being negative Anderklasen.

by Eric The Viking on Apr 25, 2009 8:25 PM CDT reply actions

Chester Taylor is not going anywhere!!!

Come on guys…he’s a perfect reliever to AD and while we could still get value from him this year before his contract is up, we need his pass blocking etc. Plus, they’ve already talked about extending his contract.

by jswen on Apr 25, 2009 8:28 PM CDT reply actions

I like Chester

I’m not saying we need to move him, I’m saying he’s about the only trade bait that we have. He’s really the only piece we can move.

Charles Gordon

I think we all look at Charles Gordon a little differently after his season ending (foot facing the wrong direction) injury, but if he comes back as strong, could he be a possible move to CB if we aren’t able to sustain Antoine? He’s already fighting Sapp and now Paymah for the Nickel spot and who knows, maybe Paymah will turn out to be a stud. I think we have a little bit of depth at CB and might recommend some safety depth, RB depth in later rounds.

Nate Davis

Any thoughts? I’ve seen him play, he’s a damn good QB. I also don’t buy the argument about his smarts, sure, he has a reading disorder, but he’s learned every playbook thrown at him so far… Why wouldn’t he be able to learn a pro book?

My assessment...

If I were to grade the two picks right now, here’s how I would.*

(*Grading a draft anytime before three years after it actually happened is ridiculous.)

1st Round – Percy Harvin, WR, Florida
Grade: D

I like Harvin as a football player… I really do. He supposedly tested positive for marijuana at the Combine, however, and to me that is ridiculous. How can a guy show up to the biggest job interview of his life with illegal drugs in his system? I’m not at all worried about any potential drug addiction, but rather with Harvin’s intelligence… or lack thereof.

Harvin may be a great playmaker and a great wide receiver, and I think that he will be. But to me, what’s worse than Harvin’s drug issues is the fact that Michael Oher was on the board. Oher, an offensive tackle, was ranked by some as a Top-10 prospect. When you consider the fear that the name “Ryan Cook” instills in Vikings’ fans, Oher needed to be considered unpassable.

2nd Round – Phil Loadholt, OT, Oklahoma
Grade: A

I’m very happy with this pick. By not drafting an OT in the first round, they almost had to in the 2nd round. Beatty would’ve also been a good pick. The Vikings drafted an NFL-ready player who will provide some much-needed protection for Sage/T-Jack. The only drawback is the number of penalties that Loadholt has the potential to commit.

DJ Moore would’ve also been a good pick, but I think OT was a bigger need than CB. The Vikings don’t have as big a hole in the secondary as they do on the offensive line, and an OT is the second-most important position on the football field.

Seems Harsh

I wouldn’t give Harvin a D… He’s still a tremendous playmaker and he does feel a need. I’d give him more of a C+/B- grade. Yeah, I loved Oher, but Loadholt is a sufficient replacement. Also, Oher may have been a top 10 talent, Harvin is a top 3 play maker. Equal trade there.

Regardless of how we feel about our draft i think we can all agree that the Broncos dueced themselves really bad

by Hoss-Drone on Apr 25, 2009 9:14 PM CDT reply actions

I like both our picks. And as to the Boldin idea Arizona wanted more than a second rounder, 10 million and picks is a lot. Harvin looks like a play maker. Again I like both our picks, giving Harvin a “D” is absurd. The guy smoked pot and now you want to label him a drug addict, sorry that is huge leap in logic.

Great draft, Go Vikes! Here is a Harvin interview:

by aceinthecorner on Apr 25, 2009 9:24 PM CDT reply actions

Its not the fact he smoked pot he could of smoked crack and meth. Its the fact that he KNEW the combine and drug testing was coming up and he still smoked it anyway. It shows stupidity and bad decision making. That said I actually like the pick and the 2nd round pick.

by Zoxide on Apr 25, 2009 9:25 PM CDT reply actions

How did it affect him?

4.41 40 time. Can you ask for more? It was a top six finish at the position. He bench pressed 225 19 times. Could be a little stronger, but for a guy 5’11" 190lbs, not bad either. He didn’t participate in the other events. He ended up drafted 22 where a ton of people had him being selected.

It sucks his name has been associated with drugs, but it did him absolutely no harm. I wouldn’t be surprised if he had stayed clean all season and was enjoying his offseason freedom (freedom is used loosely since marijuana is still illegal).

by LoveHate on Apr 25, 2009 10:06 PM CDT up reply actions

I dont think it is about how it affected him. I believe its more a factor of how he will behave in the future. To smoke it before the combine, knowing the would be tested, says one of two things..1) He’s a dumbass, which will lead to him getting into Pacman Jones type of trouble, or 2) he is addicted, which will lead to him being like Onterio Smith or Ricky Williams. Character issues tend to outweigh talent.
