I don't think the Vikings first day of the draft could have gone any better. Harvin fills a need as an offensive play maker to take attention away from Peterson and Berrian. Just get the ball in the guys hands and he'll find the endzone. If it will help, Viking Vision has a highlight video up top. Some times, because the video quality isn't the best, those blue Gator jerseys look purple and Harvin looks great in purple. If you are worried about his attitude, check out the interview with Harvin right after he was drafted.
Loadholt is a guy that the Vikings have been targeting since the Senior Bowl as far as I can tell. I remember reading on DraftCountdown.com during his coverage of the Senior Bowl that the Vikings showed lots of interest in him. Later, the Vikings showed up at his pro day and invited him to Winter Park. It just all seemed like too much attention to be a smokescreen. You can't coach his size and he has excelled at every level he's played at. I think he can step in at RT right away and he potentially backup McKinnie at LT if he gets hurt/suspended moving Radovich/Hicks/Cook tp playing at RT.
Both picks were of great value to the Vikings an improve the team immediately. Moving on to tomorrows portion, I think a CB should be targeted. Victor "Macho" Harris is still out there are could be there at the bottom of the 3rd. But I think there are lots of big pospects that are falling and could be a great value at the bottom of the 3rd, but not nessecarily a need. Here are a few names:
1. Chase Coffman TE, Mizzou - A fan favorite and another guy who has size (6'6'' 247) and athleticism you can't coach. Great hands and a tall target. Plays more like a WR or NFL Comparision Dallas Clark and is an intriguing pospect this late.
2. Michael Johnson DE, Georgia Tech - Based on his measurables, he would be a top ten pick. The problem is that he has a lack of motivation and takes plays off. That is the kind of thing you can coach out of a guy and having Phat Pat, K Will, and JA pushing you doesn't hurt. Could be worth taking a shot on top ten talent in the late 3rd round.
3. DJ Moore CB, Vandy - Proabably the guy they jump on if he is there. He can up to Winter Park with Harvin and Loadholt, so you know they are interested.
4. Rashad Johnson S, Alabama - The Vikings secondary still needs talent and this guy was considered one fo the best S in the draft. Great in coverage, but not afarid to make plays in the run game.
So, drop some knowledge with a poll and comments

Here is what Peterson had to say about the picks from Access Vikings:
Peterson on Harvin: "That’s who I was hoping we were going to get. When the day started I didn’t think he would be around when we were going to pick, but thankfully he was. Clearly he’s a good addition and I look at him as a playmaker. He’s going to get a lot of chances in our offense to show what he can do and he’s going to be able to spread the defense out and give us another dimension. Defenses aren’t going to be able to give as much attention to the run with him on the field. He’s shown that’s he’s explosive and fast and I look at him as a game-changer. I wish him the best and I know he’s going to do a great job for us. He’s going to learn that hard work will pay off. To be great in the NFL you have to do the extra work on your own and know that playbook inside and out. His speed will help him adjust to the NFL, but it won’t be easy. If he can relax and play his game, he’s going to be fine."
Peterson on Loadholt: "Phil’s a great guy and he’s a great addition. He’s going to make that competition at right tackle interesting. He’s a big guy and he’s only going to get better and continue improving. You think about him and Big Mac (Bryant McKinnie), with their size, and it’s a dream for a running back. He’s good in pass protection and run blocking, so I’ve had a big smile on my face since I heard he was our pick. I’m excited to have him come to Minnesota."

Good interview
He sure played up wanting to come here and be a Viking, and he’s probably sincere about that. His side of Chilly’s visit is all casual, about the opposite of ESPN’s report that Chilly went down to Florida to ask tough questions and see if Harvin had a soul to steal.
I wish him the best, and I think it will probably be a lot of fun to watch him play.

Completely agree
I am sold on Harvin now. Watching his highlights, listening to him in a pre-draft interview and now reading this interview, I think his head is where it should be and that we are the right team for him.

We don’t need a TE, as long as Shank keeps producing. Otherwise, would have loved picking up Gonzalez.

I think we need a DE that can give JA a run, much like Doleman and Millard. However, if he really takes plays off, hell with that. I can’t stand players who take their talent for granted. When I go out and play, I play my hardest every play. Granted, I am now limited to flag football and softball, but I still give it my all every time. For these guys who have more talent than I, and are making a living off it, they better give it their all.
3. DJ Moore CB, Vandy – Proabably the guy they jump on if he is there. He can up to Winter Park with Harvin and Loadholt, so you know they are interested.
I went with DJ (despite the DJ Dozier name correlation) because he seems to be a solid player that can fill a slot where we need some depth.
4. Rashad Johnson S, Alabama – The Vikings secondary still needs talent and this guy was considered one fo the best S in the draft. Great in coverage, but not afarid to make plays in the run game.
This guy would be my second out of these four, mainly to provide depth in case something happens to Tyrell Johnson or Madieu Williams. (I don’t remember any games that Eric Frampton was in)

Crap..I'm sorry
So much for trying to use Block quotes. My apologies, as I should have used PREVIEW first.

Coffman
I don’t think many of us were listing TEs here and there with the thought of replacing Shiancoe so much as Tahi (although Shiancoe may not be starting material in 3-4 years, you just never know). Even the downfield threat TEs like Coffman may only move Shank to FB, who would then fill the Kleinsasser role.
