Quick List of Vikings' Undrafted Free Agent Signings
Well, the 2009 NFL Draft is officially in the books. With their seventh round selection, number 231 overall, the Vikings drafted Jamarca "Mon" Sanford, a safety from Ole Miss. Dan from our outstanding SBNation draft site, Mocking the Draft, had Sanford as one of "his guys" prior to the draft taking place, which tells me that the guy is worth having around.
So now we reach the second phase of the draft, that being the fast and furious race to sign the best undrafted free agents from this year's draft class. According to KFFL, here are some of the names that have been inked by the Minnesota Vikings.
The biggest name on the list is Ian Johnson, RB, Boise State. He's also known as "The Guy That Ran In the Statue of Liberty Play In the Fiesta Bowl Against Oklahoma and Then Proposed To His Hot Cheerleader Girlfriend Afterwards." And yes, that all deserves to be capitalized. I wonder what kind of conversations he'll have with Adrian Peterson, who was on the opposing sideline for that instant classic.
The other names KFFL has linked to the Vikings are:
Vinny Perretta, WR, Boise State
Jon Cooper, C, Oklahoma
Andy Kemp, G, Wisconsin
Robert Francois, LB, Boston College
DeVon Hall, S, Utah State
Andy Schantz, LB, Portland State
Justin Kucek, P, Minnesota (invited on a tryout basis)
Colt Anderson, S, Montana (h/t to Montana Vike for passing that one along)
That gives you one more thing to mull over from what was a pretty exciting weekend for the Beloved Purple. We'll have plenty of discussion of the draft fallout as the week progresses. However, it's been a long weekend, and now it's time to go to bed. Have a good night, ladies and gentlemen, and we'll see you back here tomorrow!

I hope we hold on to Ian Johnson, even if that’s mostly based on the bowl game that happened two years ago.

What no QB? No DT?
I thought for sure we would bring in a UFA QB to compete and what about a DT? Don’t we need depth there especially if the Williams wall gets suspended? I like Ian Johnson myself, he can be a good third down back. I’m sure they’ll sign others as well. I hope they do.

We have a ton of depth behind the Williams wall. We have like 3 extra DTs, I’m pretty sure.

I hope they pick up Brannon Southerland. A UGA product I got to watch him quite a bit. He is a great blocker and can actually catch passes! Definitely worth a look at in camp.

Seattle-Minnesota, week 11, rookie matchup
Think about this game as a match up between a draft-improved Defense and a draft-improved Office in Seattle and Minnesota, respectively. Imagine Aaron Curry along with the rest of a stout defense despite injuries in Seattle. Now imagine the weapons lineup of Minnesota in Harvin, AD and Berrian, assuming a serviceable QB. Curry blitzing in off the Right side, Kleinsasser or Loadholt trying to hold him back. Tatupu streaking toward AD. Harvin trying to fit between the cracks of a fierce linebacking corps, especially if they resign Leroy Hill. Berrian exploiting the hole they have in the safety position. I’m looking forward to seeing that bout.

I’m pretty sure they’re letting Hill go.

QB
Graham Harrel anyone? A low risk high reward guy who can hit speedy receivers on the fly like harvin and berrian.

System quarterback.
I know it’s a cop-out, but if 32 teams have scouted out all the QBs and no one has taken him, there must be something to that. Besides, we already have our “project” QB in Booty. Like I’ve said in another thread, what would Harrel compete for? Third QB? So if he saw game time, we would be in serious trouble anyway, with much bigger problem.
No thank you.

QB
All the teams scouted out Tom Brady in 2000 as well and he lasted until the sixth round. This guy could show in camp the quick throw ability a la Kurt Warner that our other quarterbacks may not. It would probably take some injuries for him to get PT but how many quarterbacks can we say that for (Brady, Favre, Young, Warner) Just a thought. He throws well on the run as well. Somebody is going to bring him in, why not us?

Yeah, yeah...
Everyone’s a possible Tom Brady. Fact is, those types of finds are RARE.
I would rather bring in guys who have a shot to get on the team. Childress is set with his QBs, and unless something insane happens (slips in the bathroom putting a clock on the wall, has idea for Flux Capacitor), the QBs are Jackson, Rosenfels, and Booty.
If Minnesota had a chance to bring in a top QB, then yeah, I’m all for that, but we didn’t. Instead, we’re surrounding what we have with a lot of weapons. Hopefully, that’s enough.
So, personally, I’m okay with them not signing some undrafted QB. I’ve never been a Harrel fan anyway, and none of the other guys scream that they’re anything special.

Go figure
We don’t bring in Harrell, but do bring in a college career backup QB Sean Glennon? Uggh.

I saw Harrel play in person here in Reno...
last season and i was not impressed. Had one of the worst games of his career against the dead last pass defense in the country.

Maybe this year, we can sign
a QB that gets cut from some other teams roster. I would really like to see Chase on our team.
