Brett Favre Update
I know this probably won't happen but it still is intriging as long as Brett Favre is still alive and kicking and the prospect of him playing again is still up in the air. Now that the Jets have their qb of the future in Sanchez, profootballtalk.com suggests that Favre and his agent, Bus Cook, might be looking for a release from the Jets, to possibly to join our purple and gold. All speculation at the time but now that the draft is over and their is really not much to talk about, i thought i would bring this up. Tell me what u think.

UPDATE: Brett Favre has been officially released by the Jets. Plans to possibly come back. All speculation right now but me for one is not for it. Who knows, i would sure enjoy seeing Brett Favre get a little revenge on those cheeseheads. Here is the new post.

Dear Lord, not again...... I can't handle another summer of this, especially after the TJ drama in free agency
Although I would enjoy it just to throw it in my packer friends’ faces
I've said it once and I'll say it again...
NO! Absolutely NOT!
The only thing I can give and still keep is my word.

I like to send them the youtube clip of AD trucking Al Harris in the MNF game last year

Blegh… This is quite a connundrum. On the one hand, Favre was kicking ass as he made his way past the Titans and Pats. But then he supposedly injured his bicep, and crashed and burned. I’m assuming he’s had surgery since then.
I suppose I’d be willing to let him try out. The guy would add instant credibility to our passing game, which would open lanes up even more for Peterson. If he could play like he did before the bicep-injury, I’d be all for him. But someting tells me that A) He wouldn’t be able to, because he’s pretty old and the older you get the more you’re affected by injuries and B) Florio is just being a douchenozzle and wants attention by creating a non-story. I doubt Favre will unretire again.
No. No. Nonononononononono. Never. I am tired of Brett Favre rumors. If he ever steps foot in Minnesota, I will hitch-hike all the way there from Michigan to personally kick his ass and make him leave.

Mike Florio = Dbag
Why would we want brett favre and why would he want to play again this year? At this point I dont think we would even consider it. I for one give it a big NO and am tired of hearing about it.
Sage Rosenfels !
Favre
Is now a free agent has been released from jets.
I really hope we don’t get him.
After trading for Sage, defending Tjack, and steadfastly standing behind the decision to stick with those two, I would definitely be disgruntled to see the FO turn to Favre all the sudden.

I really want to see T-Jack take the helm this year, and if he’s really ready, I wouldn’t mind seeing him compete with Favre. My money would be on T-Jack.
I hope he figures it out.
He made some good strides at the end of last year, granted they weren’t the most motivated defenses except for the Eagles game.
He should not have been forced to shoulder the load at the end of that game, he is not that type of QB. One day he might be, but for now we need him to just do what he is capable of.
With the addition of Harvin, we are going to see a big increase in yardage attributed to Tjack. Ideally, we just needed him to put up about 200 yards and a TD with a couple of 3rd down scrambles. But with the YAC capabilities of BB, PH and even AP if we ever throw him the ball; I expect Tjacks yardage average to jump up to the 225 yard range.
Some good scheming should increase Tjacks completion percentage and I think that will do wonders for his confidence.
I Don't Like Favre, But I Like This
From the 2nd link: …start pestering Bevell and Childress to start pestering Brett to provide the final piece for one of the most talented teams in NFL history at every position except the one that counts the most.
I’m not sure I agree with that, but I definitely love to hear “experts” say it.
GO VIKES!!!!!!!!!!!
One of the commenters with half a brain pointed out...
That those would be the words coming out of Bus Cook’s mouth to get the vikes to bite on a washed up loser so Cook can make more money.

Youre kidding right?
THere is no way he would get us to the Superbowl just because his name is Favre. The guy should have retired when we was still a Packer he should have done that a few years ago. His last season in G.B. was his last gasp and the last he had in the tank. Yeah, he had a crappy year last year in N.Y., but with some good recievers, can’t blame it on lack of talent and learning a new play book. I hope this clown goes away as I will boycott the Vikings for as long as he would be in a Vikings uniform. No spoiled cheese in Minny!

I wouldn’t blame it on lack of talent or a new playbook. I’d blame it on his torn bicep. He had the Jets in SB talk. This was a team that went 4-12 the season before. I mean the guy was on fire as he blazed past the Titans and Pats. And the he torn his bicep, which is pretty big considering you need it to throw, and sucked. He probably should have gotten surgery then and just left the season alone, but I’m sure he didn’t want to hurt his streak.
Anyways, if his arm is healthy, I’d be all for bringing the guy in. Assuming he can still play well. If not, we just cut him. No big deal.
No kidding
You’re right, it won’t be just because of Favre, but he would be the final piece. I like TJ, I like Sage’s potential, but I would take Favre over both of them. There is a (very) short list of QBs that you would have to say is an upgrade over what the Vikes have, and Favre has to be on that list.
There are plenty...
There are plenty of QBs that are an upgrade over what the Vikings have, and Favre is not one of them. He’s a 39 year old “gunslinger” (I hate that term) who would be recovering from bicep surgery in order to play. And he’s a crybaby. So, no, he’s not on any list of QBs that would improve the Vikings.
He’s old, injured, and not as good as he used to be. No thank you.

No comeback
According to http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=AuQDFMBGy3NsR6xFxz5WZwRDubYF?slug=ap-jets-favrereleased&prov=ap&type=lgns
The 39-year-old Favre, who spent one disappointing season with New York, had requested the move several weeks ago through agent Bus Cook, but insisted he has no plans to come out of retirement for a 19th season.
"Nothing has changed," Favre said in a statement. "At this time, I am retired and have no intention of returning to football."
Don’t know what to think. He says he is going to stay retired, but then why would he ask to be released a few weeks ago?
Exactly!
As much as I agree with Manimal in his statement below, let me just say you heard it here 1st. I predicted this in a fan post awhile back and as recently as Sat. drat buzz I stated the drafting of Sanchez will lead to Favre’s release within a month!
Do I want or agree with it? No! But Brett Favre will be a Viking. The handwriting was on the wall. Let me review why I felt this way back-
-Brett played pretty well for the Jets for 9 games. All of the sudden he drops off citing a shoulder problem that was never proven to be the issue.
-Brett separated himself from Jet’s players and NY itself. His press conference to introduce him to the Jets showed no enthusiasm whatsoever.
-Brett retires with no fanfare, tears or big ordeal. In other words, with reservation.
- Key words in latest statement “at this time”. The next (new time)time could be next week after he calls Bevell and Chilly.
-Anyone who thinks Brett wasn’t positioning himself to go to the Vikings during the Packer fiasco must be sleeping.
-Brett and the vikes won’t jump on this today. It would look too obvious. Next week or a little later we’lll hear "I got together with my old buddy Darrel who I invited down for a family picnic. We spoke a long time. He did n’t try to talk me into anything but just talking about football and remembering our past together made me feel I can’t go out like I did and how much I already miss the game.
-finally if a dummy like me could predict all this, maybe I’m not so far off on the last statement

Yeeeeessssss!!!!
Brett Favre in the purple and gold!
Think about it for a minute: Do you honestly think Chilly signed Sage Rosenfels (dear God, Sage Rosenfels?) to compete for the starting job with T-Jack? That’s his plan going in? Tell me again why he’s an NFL head coach.
As much as I detest the drama and the Brett Favre as God scenarios, it just seems too good to be a coincidence that Chilly has two backup QBs and Favre just happens to be a free agent.
No offense...
But you disgrace the name of a great, great man.
This is a useless story! Leave it alone! That’s to everyone. Please, let it die. And him. Let him die.
Really? No, probably not, but maybe he should just wallow in obscurity until his inevitable Hall of Fame induction where his wife gives the speech, mentions cancer, cries, Favre cries, Peter King cries and tries to give Favre a hug, only to be denied, and the whole world is sad for poor, cry baby Favre.
I digress.
I hate Brett Favre. Hate him. With the passion of 1,000 gypsies. I hope he never sees anything dealing with the Vikings, or Minnesota for that matter. As long as he sits on his porch with the good ol’ boys drinking beer and watching the grass grow, I’m as happy as I’ll ever be with him.

Actually?
I think he traded for Rosenfels so that Sage would come in and be the starting QB. Look at his stats for his career and look especially at his 2007. He completes a high percentage of his passes but he’s always been the second banana. He has a bad habit of forcing the ball into coverage, but our offense is much more regimented in where the ball goes than in Kubiak’s system in Texas, and he’s never played with a running game like what Minnesota has. He throws a great deep ball and is very good on play action.
His record in 2007 is nothing to sneeze at — his offense scored 28 points on a good Bucs defense and 42 points on a solid Jags D. He obviously doesn’t have Andre Johnson to throw to here, but the combination of Berrian, Rice, Wade, Harvin, and Shiancoe provide some pretty decent weapons.
I think he’s a late-bloomer and has a very good chance of being a difference maker in the Minnesota offense this year. I’d rather have Cutler, but I have confidence in Rosenfels.
"I just wish that the late Harry Caray were still around so I could hear him mispronounce 'Kosuke Fukudome' every fukun' night" -- Dennis Miller
I feel
the same way. Sage could be a late bloomer and his stats often suffer cause of his backup role along with he has never gone into a camp with the idea of him being a starter or the potential starter.
However, if Favre really wants to be a Viking at any cost, Sage won’t be an issue. I don’t think Brett will demand a lot of $ to come and the vikes will view it as bringing someone in to teach T-jax and Booty Boy. Sage is insurnce if Brett can’t do the job.
Again do I like it? Nope. I was resigned to the fact these are our two guys and like you said, the weapons are in place. If they don’t fire the shots we will probobly be dropping lots of $ on a legit FA starter. Possibly McNabb if he does not extend his contract.

Favre in Purple?
That would be a snowballs chance in northern Minnesota in April.
As much as I hate the idea, look at who we have as a head coach. This looks like just the kind of hair-brained idea that tweedle-dee and tweedle-dum would come up with.
Would he be an upgrade? Maybe for 5-6 weeks until he starts to wear out. Then we would have to go back to where we started which is with a QB who is not stellar, and also does not have the benefit of building up a rhythm and timing with his receivers during those weeks.
The only real option for us would be to stick with what we have. Tjack and Rosencopter are not an ideal situation, but they are young enough to last an entire season and are capable of utilizing the weapons we have.
If Favre brings his three-ring circus to Winter Park, I really don’t know how I would feel. It would probably sell more tickets, and make the Vikes-Packers games all that much more interesting.
But I think it is the absolutely wrong move for this team. If we are going to sign an old fart, we would be better off signing Garcia.
Really?
Where the heck was I when that happened?
Oh well, then we would be better off signing Trent Green. :)

I know Eric
It’ds like a bad sequel. But, it’s there so you go watch it. There was just something about this that I knew it would not go away. As much as I wished it would have.
The only thing I would love is seeing the Packer gangs reaction. Brett going back to Lambaeu in Purple?
Actually, it would be fun to see. As much as I want to see T-Jax or Sage really pull off a shocking story, seeing Favre’s likeness burned in efigy at Lambeau would priceless.
Could you imagine if Tark would have pulled this on the Vikings? No one would want him in the ring of fire or have his jersey retired, let alone invite him back for such a ceremony.
The thought really congers up some interesting story lines.

Fav-re and Purple don't mix
It wasn’t a good idea last year (and we have the proof of that now) and its an even worse idea this year… Fav-re is too stained with green to ever wear purple… go back and watch some of his games against the Vikes over his career and feel that Purple rage build in you… then you won’t want Fav-re anywhere near the dome.

But, what if it crapped out a Super Bowl? :-)
Just kidding. It probobly won’t happen. I just don’t think it is impossible-yet. So i’ll laugh, joke, conjure up images while I wait for the season to begin.
By the way, talk of going to a 18 game season was brought up again. Playing Super Bowl on Presidents Day weekend. I say start the season 2 weeks earlier, finish one week later. Allow an extra bye week for each team (due to a longer season). If teams are worried about cutting players too fast, allow teams to keep a larger roster (8 more players) before making the final cut at the end of week 2. At least allow those extras to be on reserve. Would provide a team protection from a player who gets an early season injury or some dude who just turns out to be a flop. Allow teams to shuffle the roster for those two games before they make the final cut. Benefit the team while getting rid of useless pre-season games.

Ive said it a million times...
but I guess it needs repeating again…. Longwell & Sharper can not be compared to Favre just because they played for the Packers. Sure, they both played well there, and Longwell even has a number of Packers records, but they were not idolized like the craptastic show that was Brett Favre. Longwell and Sharper were just players in the Brett Favre show while they were in Green Bay. The effect is TOTALLY different.
God, people….
V-I-K-I-N-G-S! Skol Vikings, Let's Go!!
The Brett Favre show doesn’t exist in GB anymore. They’ve embraced Rodgers, or so it seems based from what I’ve read online. It’s really not as huge a deal as people are making it out to be. You don’t hear about Chargers fans talking trash to Saints fans saying “Well we had Drew Brees first! So hah!”
Favre, if he’s healthy, is definitely an upgrade over our current QBs. We should get him, IF he’s healthy and that arm isn’t affecting his throwing.
In fairness, Drew Brees never won a Super Bowl or set records that put the small city he played in relevance that it hasn’t had since the NFL first started. Farve did those things and is unquestionably the face of the organization for the past 17 seasons. Another thing that Drew Brees wasn’t, a face of an organization for more than 4 seasons.
What proof? Everyone was saying Favre was just going to be terrible last year for the Jets right off the bat, because he was old, the year before was his last hurrah, he was getting slow, etc etc… And pretty much those criticisms fell flat. I mean the guy was practically unstoppable on a brand new team, new plays, new coach, until he injured his bicep.
Now, this isn’t to suggest I’m not for Jackson or Rosenfels starting. That’d be fine. But if Favre IS available, I think we need to at least take a look and give him a shot. Look at what he did for Thomas Jones. The guy had a terrible season before last, when he was heavily relied upon. Enter Favre, and he puts up good rushing yardage and TDs. So, if he can come back in the shape he was before the injury, I’d love to get him behind center.
And apparently he asked for his release twice. So he probably will unretire Everyone should get used to hear about Favre to the Vikings, ’cause the possibility is going to be out there.
Of course it's out there.
And he would probably be an upgrade at QB.
But can he go a whole year? That is the question.
If we only have him for the first half of the year, and he hurts his pinkie. Then we are halfway through the season with a QB that hasn’t had that chance to Gel with his offense.
Jackson didn’t get a chance to gel with his offense, and he came out and did better than the starter was. It’s not like they aren’t doing anything in practice if they don’t start.
Did better than a starter who was playing terribly.
There is no doubt Jackson out performed Frerrote.
But the bar wasn’t that high.
If he had been playing the whole year with the team, you can bet that he would have performed even better.
Favre
Beating the Cheeseheads in their own stadium. Could there BE any greater state of nirvana for a Vikings fan? I’m not saying, I’m just saying…..

No,
Because the response would be “You guys couldn’t even MAKE it to the super bowl without our leftovers.”
Point well made Bjorno
On the other hand they would say that if Longwell kicked the winning field goal in the Super Bowl or (if he was still with us) Sharper had run a pick off for a TD ina n NFC title game.
Interesting clip from the tribune=
If Favre has no plans to return why did he ask for his release from the Jets? And why include the line "at this time" in his statement? Those three words are why there is going to be speculation that Favre is going to return and that, if he does, his first choice is going to be the Vikings. You’ll recall that when Favre wanted to unretire last summer, his desire was to come to Minnesota. The Green Bay Packers made sure that didn’t happen and even filed tampering charges against Minnesota. The Vikings were cleared by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.
On ESPN it is reported that Brett’s agent says he is happy doing what he does now. Mow the grass.
Yah sure! The guys ego is way too big. He is too PO’ed at the Packers for not releasing him. This is not the end of this story I’m afraid.
True.
But there has been speculation that the release by the Jets was to allow Brett to sign a one-day contract with the Packers so that he can officially retire a Packer.
I am not saying there is no chance of it happening, I am just saying that I would rather win without him.
We have suffered enough as Vikings fans than to have to listen to idiot pack-fans say “but you needed Farve to win”.
That is not to say all pack-fans are idiots, just the large majority.
Just imagine if we win a super bowl with him this year.
Then we don’t win one for another 30 years.
How many Packer fans does it take to change a light bulb?
3
One to change it, two to talk about how good the old one was.
Immediately texting that to my best friend/Packer fan (I know, I know, but sometimes you gotta take the bad with the good).

For the sake of God himself,
the Vikings better not have Favre on the team.
I can outrun a mule deer.
If Favre will win us a Super Bowl, I will ignore all my past hatred for that stupid piece of shit.
I can outrun a mule deer.
wouldn't be worth it
to me.
I’d rather be one and done in the playoffs without Brett than champs with him. I have no respect for him whatsoever.
And, just to clarify, he is the only player I have these feelings for. If any other asshole player in the history of the NFL signed with the Vikes, I’d be alright. So, it’s not that I am biased against guys I don’t respect. Im biased against him, and only him. Call me a jerk. Call me a “bad fan”. But my love for Minnesota and my hatred for Favre should, in my mind, never be forced to mix together. His signing would cause me many sleepless night, as pathetic as that sounds. It just makes me sick to my stomach.
