12 Things I Think I Think: Speculation Regarding the 2009 Vikings

Don't blast me for the title please I know it's part of Peter King's Monday Morning QB, one of my favorite segments, so that's why I named it that.

Star-divide

1. Tavaris Jackson will win the starting qb job at the end of training camp. Sage Rosenfels will push him and it will be a close battle but TJack has an edge with his athleticism.

2. Tyrell Johnson is the starting safety opposite of Madieu Williams next season, not Colt Anderson and not Jamarca Sanford. We drafted Johnson with our only first day pick last year and he played pretty well in the absence of Williams at the beginning of last season. Cedric Griffin will never be moved to safety.

3.Adrian Peterson will not rush for 2000 yards. I know he wants to, but if the coaches are smart they will run him into the ground nor will they let him run himself into the ground,

4.Our defense will be healthy all season and our pass defense will rank amongst the top 15 and our total defense amongst the top 5. We have the ability to accomplish this, you know this.

5. Cedric Griffin will build upon last season and continue to improve. He will make defenders pay for throwing his way next year.

6. Sidney Rice will breakout this year. He will lead the team in TD receptions and has a good chance to lead the team in total receptions. I like him and want him to succeed. Barring injury this is generally the year WR come into their own in the NFL.

7. Jay Cutler will suffer a season ending knee injury caused by repeated annihilation by Jared Allen.

8. Lions will win six games, none against the vikings or packers but one on the bears.

9. Percy Harvin will wreak havoc on opposing defenses. I firmly believe that Chilly and Crew have a plan for this unique player. Why draft the guy without having such a plan, it's stupid logic.

10.Vikings will ranked first in rushing offense and among the top 20 in passing offense with the addition of Phil Loadholt.  Our qb will bring consistancy this year and provide a viable passing attack. I believe.

11. Vikings win the divison and finish with a record better then 10-6. It's ours to lose and we have arguably the most talented team in the division.

12. The Dailynorseman community is the best among all viking's blogs on the web. FACT.

Great List!

Only one problem, there is no way Jay Cutler will get a season ending knee injury, Jared Allen and Pat Williams will tag-team em’ and kill him.

I can outrun a mule deer.

I think...

everything you said sounds pretty good, but I am 99% sure that Sage Rosenfels will win the job, and that he’ll be our best starter since Culpepper. Not that that is saying all that much, but still its a positive.

Great post

1. You meant “win”.
2. I believe you’re correct, and that makes me sad. No matter how well Asher Allen performs, the Viking coaches and coordinators will surely protect CG’s self-esteem.
3. As long as he averages 5.75-6+ yards per carry, I’m OK with 2000+ rushing yards for AP.
4-6. I admire your optimism.
8. I believe the Lions will win at least 4 games, and 6 could be reasonable, especially if they improve their D in FA. And I hope none vs. the Vikes and nothing like last year’s nailbiters, either.
11. The Bears, Packers and Vikings have the 3 easiest schedules in the NFL, so the Vikings had better be at least 11-5 and able to win a playoff game.

1. No idea. It’s pretty even in my eyes right now. Not that right now means anything at all.
6. Doubt it. It would be nice, but I doubt it.
7. Don’t know about a season ending injury, but he will definitely be hurting. Especially that super-sensitive ego of his.
8. 4-5 is my prediction, probably 5.
11-12. Hecks yeah!

In AP I trust

Batting .1000

Love the list and I think you’re 12 for 12.

I especially hope for Sydney Rice to establish himself as good redzone target.

Speculating or Wishing?

by LoveHate on Apr 30, 2009 12:25 AM CDT reply actions

More so wishing. Until he can stay on the field consistantly all we can do is judge the talent and hope he plays up to his potential. If the injuries weren’t an issue I would agree with AD and specualate that the Rice would in fact lead the team in TD receptions with BB a close second.

12 things I think about the 12 thinks you think I think...

1. This all depends on Tjack. He has the talent needed, can he put it all together. I sure hope so.

2. He is already our starting Safety.

3. You are assuming the coaches are smart, that was your first mistake. Even if we sign Fartve, they will still run AP up the middle 30 times a game.

But you are probably right that he won’t hit 2000 yards with this coaching staff.

4. How can you say that? The mere mention of this has already cursed our defense to a year of injuries.

As far as our pass defense, it may very well peak in the top 15 at some point, but you can expect people to continue to try to pass the ball on us until we return to our old form of getting lots of INT’s.

5. Griff will be a beast next year, no arguments here.

6. QUIT mentioning INJURIES. Sidney is a HUGE red zone threat, too bad we will rarely use him properly. Ever see him run a fade route to the corner of the end zone? No.

7. No. Cutler will bounce half his passes off the stone hands of the Bear’s recievers, then he will pout, then he will cry, then he will drink himself into a diabetic coma because he doesn’t know that Scotch and Splenda has no sugar in it.

8. The Lions will steal a game from each of us next year, and it will be due to Brad Childress being an idiot, Aaron Rodgers getting injured, and Jay Cutler saying “Screw you guys, I’m going home.”.

9. That is all that Brad Childress and Co have going for them, Stupid Logic.

10. There’s a surprise, the Vikings will have the # 1 rushing offense. We sure as hell better with the best running back in the game, the best backup running back in the game and the best hybrid running back in the game.

11. You can have ALL the muscle in the world; but if you have no brain, you end up like this guy:

12. No argument there.

Since you're using Peter King's gimmick

Why don’t you let us know why the pillows weren’t quite fluffy enough at the hotel you stayed at this week? Or how about the charming little coffee place that had just the most amazing venti latte in the tri-state area?

Oh yeah, because nobody f*cking cares. I enjoy most of King’s articles, but find me one person that gives a crap about his coffee or travel “adventures”, and I will punch said person in the face.

I have enjoyed King’s articles, but have always skipped those sections. Never understand what they had to do with his article. He is already pretty personal in his writing, why does anyone care to read about his bad travel experiences or what coffee tastes good? Hopefully he doesn’t start writing about his doctors appts or where to get the best deal on Jolt Cola.

Lol. Agreed. I think he’s looking to get endorsed by Hotels.com or as Travelocities roaming gnome.

by LAviking on Apr 30, 2009 10:42 PM CDT up reply actions

It’s not just him, a lot of writers are doing that type of thing now. Gregg Easterbrook’s TMQ always has some long political/ideological/scientific/etc. section, and I can count on one hand the number of time’s I’ve even skimmed it.

In AP I trust

by FarvaForTheVikings on Apr 30, 2009 10:55 PM CDT up reply actions

TMQ is a little different though.

Besides the sci-fi stuff (9 paragraphs on Battlestar Galactica, really?), I always read through his non-football commentary. I always feel like I actually learn something useful from Easterbrook’s other topics. Although he often unabashedly slants the issue towards what he believes, he always gives good stories and links to research the topic.
