Plaxico out in NY
For those of you that have been concerned with the lack of "breaking news" stories on our front page, here ya go: Plaxico Burress has just been released by the Giants.
Ladies and Gentlemen, let the speculation begin! I personally love Plaxico Burress the football player. He's helped me win a handful of fantasy football titles, and the guy catches everything in his area code. Just ask the Packers in the 2007 NFC title game about that one. Unfortunately, Plaxico Burress the person has rendered Plaxico Burress the football player invalid for the foreseeable future. Even if he avoids jail time, which doesn't sound likely due to New York's strict gun laws, you just know that Roger "I AM THE LAW!" Goodell will slap him with a lengthy suspension as soon as his legal matters are settled.
Burress would make be an ideal fit for the Vikings, but I think it's going to be quite some time before we see "Cheddar Plax" in uniform again.

Plaxico's next team...
Will come over prison, and then after the following suspension.
Too bad. I considered him as well. In my head.

Careful...
Someone *cough*Bears’ fans!cough may take offense to that picture.
They seem so sensitive lately. Though I’m only adding fuel to the coming fire, I don’t care anymore.

Should have Plax pointing the gun at himself shouldn’t it?

It’s an animated .gif file of Plax’s face over Cheddar Bob’s from 8 Mile. And yes, he shoots himself and hilarity ensues. :)

Wait it out...
I say we should at least give him a look after he serves his possible jail time and definite suspension. Hell, since it’ll probably be at least a three year wait, we might have a decent quarterback to throw it to him by then too! Although, I still don’t get how a receiver with such great hands can’t get a decent grip on a gun…
OMG
I just threw up in my mouth a little.
Maybe we should sign Plax and Vick in a package deal.

I tend to agree ericj69
Plaxico the player is pretty good. He isn’t TO-showoffish on the field and gets the job done. Unfortunately, he carries an attitude off the field that will keep him off the Viking’s front office list. Only way I can see him coming to the Vikes is if he is able to sincerely express that his I-am-above-the-law ways are behind him, and I dont see that happening. Too bad, cause that guy has talent like Fitzgerald.
Just sayin...
It’s not like he looked to inflict injury on anyone with his weapon. He was just a dumbass who didn’t know how to properly register/carry a gun. He’s still a helluva receiver and I don’t think he’ll get too rusty while away from the NFL for a bit. As for Vick…keep him the hell away, he has no talent whatsoever.
I could go find a clip of that game winning run against Minnesota if I needed too…
“Has no talent” is a pretty dumb statement.
Vick...
Hard to make up my mind on him. I think that between jail and bankruptcy, he might be waking up and realizing that the good life isnt his right, but a privilege that he has been blessed with.
Looking at his stats, they have been steadily improving every year (higher TD/Int ratio). I guess seeing how Sage plays as a Viking will help lean my bias one way or another.
Good story on where his mind is probably at, regarding maturity (read down a bit).

Allow me to reiterate...
Feel free to post the Vick clip, it’s not like he was the first to do that to us. Steve Young already perfected that type of run on us several years before. Ok, maybe “no talent whatsover” was a bit of an overstatement. I should say that he doesn’t have any quarterback talent whatsoever. The man has only one season with a QB rating better than 80 and he’s only thrown for more than 2,500 yards once in his career. Not to mention his woeful 53% career completion percentage. If we were holding a 40 yd dash competition, then sure, my money is on the dog killer to win because he’s fast as hell. There’s alot of other quarterbacks out there with mediocre passing stats to choose from, and we got one when Chilly traded for Sage…and I’d still choose him over Vick. If there is anyone dumb enough to pick up Vick , they should play him on special teams as a kick/punt returner only. Considering he has 55 fumbles in 6 seasons, I don’t see a switch from QB to RB going any better.
the gun incident
before anyone throws stones at burress, think of the attacks, which are happening with some regularity, on nfl payers. in most of the country burress would have been perfectly within his rights – and rightfully so! – carrying for self-defense. to me the only thing he did wrong was not practicing correct gun safety. he broke the law, but it’s a BAD law, imposed on law-abiding citizens by a gone-wild liberal government.
Dude
He shot his own dumbass self in the leg with an illegal handgun…
very true...
but that doesn’t change the fact that he had the gun illegally. If he would have had the proper license to carry that gun, it would be a different story. I understand why he was carrying a gun. If Sean Taylor had a gun, he might still be alive. But if a player feels the need to protect themselves, do so legally.

Big difference for me between Plax and Vick...
Vick is a person that took helpless animals and trained them to kill or murdered them.
Plax is a person that felt the need to carry a gun for protection and accidentally shot himself.
The big difference here is that Vick has a serious behavioral disorder where he gains enjoyment out of seeing animals trying to kill each other. Plax is simply gulity of being stupid for not registering his gun and…you know…shooting himself in the leg.
I am far more willing to forgive a crime of stupidity than one of sociopathic, pre-meditated violence. I will never support a Vick signing. But if Plax serves his sentence and shows remorse, I would be OK with us signing him.
